Can an adapter be made to combine 2 x NEMA 14-50 into a single HPWC connector?

Yes, it has been done, but only as a DIY, I believe. http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/8661-Adapter-to-combine-two-30A-level2-into-one-60A-J1772-faster-charging/page2 Also, if you have not seen it before, check out FlasherZ's FAQ page...

Is it true the Model S has no tow hook?

Thanks for that bit of insight, towman. Boy, unintended consequences. Although I have never had to use the towing eye on other vehicles, I sure wish we had it back on the Model S.

Why is Tesla putting a supercharger in Seattle?

Welcome to the forum. Yes, that would be great. The Ellensburg Supercharger and one in Seattle would make the Seattle - Tri-Cities trip a piece of cake.

EV access to HOV lanes in Washington State?

Yes, the motorcycle exemption seems a bit odd. Concerning EVs, as ChadS clearly points out, WA DOT has been quite clear - the goal is reducing congestion. Since CA (and others) allow EVs in the HOV lanes, I understand many CA EV sales or leases are closed mainly to get the coveted HOV sticker.

First confirmed battery swap upgrade from 60 to 85?

Agree on both counts. That communications problem is a real irritant to me.

    Cooling pumps B now C

Lordy, I hate revelations like this. No, not directed at montgom626, good to know, glad he posted. What I don't like is the 'who has what' speculation that begins, and the uncertainty that follows.

    Supercharger - Ellensburg, WA

Daughter sent the following from Ellensburg, today, 12/15. I might have to revise my 'by Christmas' prediction.

Are there many high amperage J1772 public charging stations?

Another vote for dual chargers. I've made good use of them here in WA and on a recent trip in Canada. Also, it appears that Tesla is willing to sort of unbundle the duals from the HPWC. Following is an email I received when questioning the wisdom of bundling. Hi William, I received your...

S85 Owners: Do you wish you had bought S60 instead

Two years of driving the limited range LEAF and the fact that we would no longer have an ICE vehicle made the 85 kWh battery and dual chargers a no brainer. Never gave the 60 a second thought.

Consider the Handybar - really helps my wife. And, it is a seat belt cutter and window breaker.

Geting in and out of the darn thing...

My wife and are are getting along in years and find the MS a bit difficult to exit. The driver has that big round thing to help. Consider the Stander Handybar for the passenger and/or the driver. http://goo.gl/OJUSyq Can't use the device for exiting the rear seats, and that is even tougher...

New poll: How to get to 100% EV in your household?

There is a CS-90 (≥40 mph) at the Best Western Plus Icicle Inn. I have used it as a guest, but guest status is not required. Restaurant is pretty good.

    10-30 extension

I used a Dremel tool to cut the neutral pin. Connected to anything in the adapter? Gee, I hope not.:scared: I'm quite sure it is OK, as I use the modified adapter with a true 14-50 (all 4 wires) and it is just the same as before. The reason I cut the neutral pin, is so I can use it with my 3...

    10-30 extension

I have gone all the way and removed the neutral pin from the Tesla 14-50 UMC adapter. NOTE: If you use any of the mentioned jury rigs with the Tesla 14-50 adapter, the car will still see a 40 Amp pilot, so you must dial down the charge rate as appropriate. e.g. 24 Amps for a 14-30 on a 30 Amp...

New poll: How to get to 100% EV in your household?

We are there now. The LEAF takes care of local errands and such, and with the rapid expansion of the Supercharger network and the coming CHAdeMO adapter, I think we are in fat city. A few years ago we moved from a rural 10 acres to a managed rental. Gone are two lawn mowers, chain saw, roto...

    10-30 extension

Sorry to jump in so late, but do consider making a three wire #6 extension using 14-50 ends. Cut off the neutral prong and fill the neutral slot with epoxy so that it can not be used by an RVer. After it is no longer needed at your son's place, keep it in the car, as it could come in handy at...

Charging protocol/etiquette when charging at hotels?

I would prefer moving the car, but as long as there is contact information available, I wouldn't have a big problem with leaving the car in the Supercharger stall. Also, I would consider popularity of the site and time of day. I suspect night time use is considerably less than daytime. Can...

Is it normal to roll back on hills?

Well, I for one, would rather have the missing coat hooks (and grab handles) than a hill holder. Gee, I remember that back in '49 the Nash had a hill holder, and they were not alone.

Are you planning to "TV” (VS RV) ACROSS THE COUNTRY?

Probably. Getting along in years and when we decided to go totally electric, figured we would never again embark on long road trips. Superchargers certainly have changed that thinking - it will be an adventure. Maybe not coast to coast, but Pittsburgh at least. And, similar to ChadS...

    energy usage in colder temp...

I think the recent cold snap is about as low as we will see in these parts. I'm good - using pre-heat and a ratio of rated to actual miles of 1.4:1.0, I'm well within range of Superchargers north, south, and (soon) east. That is conservative and allows comfortable heat and reasonable...

    energy usage in colder temp...

We received our MS late February, so temperatures had already started to moderate a bit. Today, <30°F, took a 50 mile round trip for lunch and used 70 rated miles - forgot to note Watts per mile. Had pre-heated, climate control at 67°, and never above 65 mph. Well, there was one instance...

    CHAdeMO Adapter (coming this winter)

Frankly, that is the main reason I'll purchase the adapter. Other areas I want to visit either have or are getting high power L2.

    I finally sold my ICE!

Good for you. I sold my Toyota van two days after we got the LEAF. Wife's Buick hung around for about five days after the Tesla arrived. She is a fine driver, but takes a few days to get comfortable in a new car. Sadly, she opted for the LEAF and stuck me with the Tesla.

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

I sure hate to sing the same song over and over, but: Tesla is a fine young company, but they sure do need some help with communications. As someone posted in another thread, should have asked three different Tesla people and than taken the answer you liked best.:biggrin::frown: I...

Deciding on suspension, how does everyone else about air vs. coil?

I'm fine with air, but if it had been available, I probably would have opted for coil. Pretty simple and reliable.

    Firmware 5.8

What happened to the lights on the car that shows up when pressing the "T"? Shown anywhere else? I think I'm losing it - I was one of the loudest complaining of the rgen reduction, but mine came back without the reboot. Someone suggested mass hysteria; maybe so.

Plug HPWC into a NEMA 14-50 plug?

Get the dual chargers. Talk to Tesla about unbundling - they will do it. It was a dumb move to bundle, as there are CS 90s all over Canada and breeding rapidly in my neck of the woods. Canadians do not have to purchase both.

How often is the Supercharger list in Nav screen updated?

The WA and OR sites have shown up PDQ.

    Do You Have a Smartphone?

Well, I had a very basic dumb phone, and the iPad was my link to the LEAF. But, after the Tesla arrived, I had to join the 21st century - Android.

Yep, it figures. Tesla does need some work in this area. I really hate it when any customer support person makes a 'best guess' choice. I applaud those that say they don't know, or aren't sure, but they will try to find out.

Ellensburg, WA Model S/Roadster HPC Adapter

Saving the Ellensburg HPC Always wondered who picked up the tab for the electricity. I'm in. If I am trying to make time while traveling, I'll use the Supercharger. But we often visit Ellensburg and I would rather use the downtown location for visits to The Tav and the Saturday Farmer's...

Any place to charge in Walla Walla?

Welcome to the forum. A quick Google search came up with a few RV parks with 50 Amp service. Might want to give a couple of them a call.

So just how reliable is the Model S?

February 2013 delivery, >11,000 miles, zero problems or complaints. Well, there is my continuing complaint about no exit grab handles or a place to hang a suit jacket.

A 900+ mile visit to the WA and OR Superchargers

I wish they would give us a font size option. The mph and range figures are fine. But with my bifocals, the remaining characters are just a tad too small to read without refocusing through the lower part of the lens.

Realistic Range Expectations in Crummy Winter Weather

Great report Cottonwood - thanks. Sometimes I wonder about our sanity. We pay 100K or more for a car, and then have to suffer through the cold or sweat bullets when range approaches zero. No, Im not going back to an ICE.
