    Model 3 Highland Performance

US states charge different amount of taxes so in the US prices are advertised as without tax. Add 10% import duty, 20% VAT and first registration fee and the numbers make more sense.

Beginning of the end for Tesla

If this is true : Are your performance management processes any better than your hiring processes or are they riddled with false measures, bias and unmeasurable behaviour type measures (which boil down to "don't disagree with me") ? One leader's deadwood is another leader's star. It rewards...

    Average Wh/mi since owning?

2019 SR+, 19" wheels and no heat pump. 295Wh/mile at around 35k miles. (tyres changed at 30k - still (just) within legal limits) ... also was bought in late August 2019 so it's biased a little by having 1 more winter than summer

    Dreaded squeaky suspension (2019 Model 3 SR+)

Many thanks for the detailed and useful reply ! It has now mysteriously disappeared - but I'm confident it will return !

    Dreaded squeaky suspension (2019 Model 3 SR+)

I know there has been some discussion about this in earlier threads but I'm now getting the dreaded squeak on the front suspension while at full (or close to) full lock. I had the joints lubricated in 2021 and the upper control arms replaced in 2022 (both under warranty). I'm now out of...

2023 MYP Tyres for Rim Protection

Just put 19" Pirelli Powergy on my M3 - they have rim protection on them which looks reasonable. Tyres seem to do the job and maybe a bit quieter than the Hankooks they replaced. Kwik Fit have decent pricing and Pirelli seem to have a £50 per pair cashback deal if you are a member of certain...

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

Insurance companies are not dumb - despite what we might think their whole existence is to pay out as little as possible. They have the data and they understand perfectly the cost implications of repair vs write off. They simply follow the money and have no sentimental attachment to cars.

    Lidl NI - 3 phase cable £130

For those in NI (usually Lidl deals are different to GB) - they have what seems to be a 5m 3 phase (description says 22kW) cable for £129 : https://www.lidl-ni.co.uk/p/electric-car-charging-cable/p10002073?pageId=10030145&tabCode=Current_Sales_Week Seems a bargain - screwfix are currently £170.

Model 3 wheel alignment - Northern Ireland

It's an SR+ so not as much torque as a performance. While I'm not a grandad I'm not a boy racer either !

Model 3 wheel alignment - Northern Ireland

Thanks - How much did they charge ?
  11. M

Model 3 wheel alignment - Northern Ireland

Has anyone got their wheels aligned in NI ? - if so who with ? Booked in to Kwik Fit for new tyres (I know I know but they were the only people who had the tyres I wanted at a reasonable price). They say they can't check the alignment because it's a Tesla. I phoned their customer support to...

    M3 LR RWD incoming

... and I know its not the same thing but having these features in the base autopilot I think actually puts people off FSD. When the car "bongs" to say the light is green when it's mistakenly picked up the green filter arrow in another lane, or the signal for pedestrians which is slightly on...

Auto Express Interview with Moto Chief Executive

... derating works if you're plugged in for a long time and don't really care when your charge finishes. For chargers on the go, derating when at max capacity doesn't really make sense. It reduces the throughput of vehicles which could be much more easily and cheaply achieved by putting in...

Auto Express Interview with Moto Chief Executive

But as I said before I don't think its a bad "fag packet" estimate. Most people avoid motorway services as petrol is more expensive there by filling up before they hit the motorway. That model isn't any different with EVs. Remember he's talking about motorway service stations so he knows how...

Auto Express Interview with Moto Chief Executive

I think he's being very careful saying MW rather than MWh - that is the 2,500 chargers simultaneously providing 96kw which might not be unreasonable at certain times of the year and day (and you'd probably have to provide more capacity than that to provide a safety margin). Even if he's out by...

Auto Express Interview with Moto Chief Executive

But likewise given petrol in service stations is more expensive than elsewhere and most fill up "cheaply" before going on a long journey then it evens out ?

trading down from LR to RWD?

I drive a 2019 SR and had a M3P as a loaner for a week. Sure it is *way* quicker (it wasn't restricted by Tesla in modes just top speed) and it was fun while it lasted but after I got over trying the acceleration out a few times it didn't really make any difference to my daily drive. Also...

2019 SR+ nearly as dead as a dead thing

They replaced : HVAC PTC SERVICE AASY and PTC HEATER DUAL ZONE, the first on the invoice was £10+VAT, the second £440+VAT (for a heater !), but all done under warranty.

2019 SR+ nearly as dead as a dead thing

For anyone interested it was as simple as the heater shorting (pre heat pump car). Not quite sure how that affected the car - I thought Model 3s had solid state fuses that protected from this kind of thing.

2019 SR+ nearly as dead as a dead thing

OK so far so good with Tesla - car was trucked out this morning, hire car arrived this afternoon (merc C class). Luckily the recovery firm knew their stuff and were able to pop the frunk and give a little charge to the 12v battery which allowed them to put it in tow mode to get it on the truck...

2019 SR+ nearly as dead as a dead thing

Thanks for the replies - the boot thing might have been the best but unfortunately I can’t even get in the thing now ! I phoned them and a tow truck is arriving tomorrow (I could have had it today but I had too much going on). They think it might be the main battery and have said they will...

2019 SR+ nearly as dead as a dead thing

Returned home this morning after a short journey and on parking got lots of error messages on the screen BMS_a151, VCFRONT_a192, BMS_a35 basically telling me something was up and I shouldn't drive. Things went rapidly downhill after that to the point that I can't wind the driver's window up...

Adjust charging to take advantage of night rates at a public charger?

There's a button (at least in the app) for "precondition" - AFAIK having this on heats the car and battery - off doesn't. When I've done this in the winter the car has been cold when I got into it shortly after the departure time I had set (for charging) (EDITED : It's funny - you assume...
  27. M

Adjust charging to take advantage of night rates at a public charger?

It has whenever I've used it (which is often as I'm on old school economy 7) - you can also set "off peak" times on the screen and tell it to prefer off peak so that should guarantee it starting as late as possible.
  28. M

Adjust charging to take advantage of night rates at a public charger?

Park up, set your charge limit to where you want it to be next day and then set a "schedule departure by 7am" - the car will do the rest. at 5.1kW unless you deplete the battery every day then 7 hours will be enough. If it takes more than 7 hours then you'll still pull the same kWh before...

[UK Discussion] This is what a self driving car looks like

That's not quite true - might be dancing on the head of a pin here but Waymo has remote drivers which it asks for assistance whenever it needs to. As a passenger you don't know when the vehicle has asked for assistance or not - therefore its very hard to compare with something like FSD where...

Model 3 SR+ showing 166 miles at 80% charge.. is that right?

No I'm referring to the battery icon at the top of the screen (which I think the OP was using - its such a long thread lol) when its showing remaining miles rather than percentage. It changes when you change the wheel configuration. My 2019 SR+ does this.
  31. M

Model 3 SR+ showing 166 miles at 80% charge.. is that right?

Try it for yourself - go into the screen and change your wheel type - you'll see the range on the guessometer change. The 19" wheels are less aerodynamic than the wheels with aero covers. Or go into the configurator, change the wheel selection and see the rated range change - the UK site shows...

Model 3 SR+ showing 166 miles at 80% charge.. is that right?

IIRC the 2019 SR+s were rated at 240 miles. Also do you have the standard aero wheels or the 19" ? 19" reduce the range by 10% - I have the 19" wheels and when new my range showed 220 miles (and 240 when I changed the wheel size on screen). Mine's charging atm and shows 209 miles at 96% (I'm...

[UK] Would you buy another tesla

Where are these 50% depreciated model Ys being sold ? (Genuinely interested as this might tip the balance for me) Edited to add : had a quick squint at autotrader and the prices there (albeit asking prices) still seem a bit off - cheapest was a long range early 2022 at nearly £47k with 20,000...

How concerned are you about the warranty (or lack thereof)?

You pays your money and takes your chances :) - "automotive standard" can mean many things it can mean a threshold above which components are considered to meet the standard or they can be standard simply because its what everybody uses. They are mainstream components readily available in the...

    M3LR Squeaky Steering

Is it not still under warranty ? I ask because my warranty expires in August so was going to book the car in for a "service" in July with a list of things like this which I'm hoping are warranty. (They did "fix" this 2 years ago but looks like the fix they made wasn't permanent)
  38. M

How concerned are you about the warranty (or lack thereof)?

I think we are pretty much agreeing (unusual for a forum !) Different people - different strokes. You can spread the risk yourself by taking that approach across a whole range of products - I cheap out on house and car insurance taking out the bare minimum I can cope with (but making sure the...

How concerned are you about the warranty (or lack thereof)?

A couple of points to note : Warranty fixes in general will be highest in the first few months of owning the car - and this seems especially true in Teslas as Tesla seem to be shooting for build it right and don't inspect before delivery which sometimes goes wrong and as a relatively new...

    Our Tesla Crash

So I may be recalling this incorrectly - but I believe this happens even when you think you can't control it. There was a study of motorcyclists done a few years back and apparently/allegedly if when sliding down a road on your bum you are fixated on that tree or pole you don't want to hit -...

Model Y standard range for UK - will it happen

I'm not disagreeing entirely but a few things mitigate this : - Tesla have been working on reducing the manufactured cost - something to do with a single pressed component - The supply chain was constrained last year and prices of materials and components were high - maybe they are coming down...

Unexpected Battery Discharging - How worried should I be ?

As stated above the BMS has to work very hard to "guess" what's in your battery and coldness reduces the available charge. Once in a while your car does need to be charged to 100% and once in a while left at less than 20% in order for the BMS to calibrate. If you haven't done that in a while...

[UK] used value of their Tesla cars plummeting?

We're being flooded with EV *models* not actual EVs on the street. The manufacturers want to remain exciting and relevant to buyers. In the same way as they always advertise their expensive models which the majority don't buy then they advertise EVs heavily not in the expectation that you...

    Car Wifi Signal

In most wifi devices the channels can be set through software as part of the "localisation" process - when you're setting up you're usually asked which "region" you live in. This leads me to believe that the chipsets are global (makes no sense to produce multiple devices doing a very similar...

    Autopilot wrong lane

I've found it to be random which lane it picks but the most common response for me has been for the car to move to the center of the lane as it grows and then have a complete meltdown when it sees a white line coming at it in the middle of this new large lane !!

Driving a Tesla in the UK, as explained by a foreigner.

Every day is a school day - I didn't know pressing the stalk could affect the speed on AP - when the speed limit changes I press the speed limit sign on the screen to sync or occasionally roll the wheel on the right hand side of the steering wheel (model 3).

No phantom drain - Related to recent update?

I think the car reports usable charge on screen - in the winter the battery gets cold and usable charge lowers (you haven't lost that charge when the battery warms it should come back), so leaving the car overnight appears to reduce the charge. Its summer so the battery doesnt cool down as...
