Looking Forward to the Model 3 Debut

So how long ago was the earliest inkling mention of the possibility of an economy model Tesla? I'm trying to figure out exactly how long some of us have been waiting for this day.

    The new nose

Love the nose cone. At first, seeing it was kind of jarring. My brain just isn't used to something like that. But seeing it a few times and in other colors it really started to grow on me. It looks futuristic because it isn't trying to imitate a gas car. Just like early gas cars resembled horse...

Call to arms: Tuesday 9/22 State House (Boston) 1pm

So.... I've never been to anything like this before. I want to show support obviously but if I just show up and sit there would that be completely useless? I kinda want to know what to expect before getting into this...

    Supercharger - Dedham, MA

yeah, I think I'm only gonna go at night from now on. As long as they keep leaving the lights on, it'll be the ideal way to get photos of the progress. And yeah, I don't know how I feel about that roofline either (actually I do, I hate it).

    Electric Motorcycles

This is awesome! That means I'm a $1350 bucks closer to being able to own one :D (I just recently got my motorcycle license and bought a gas bike to learn on) Kinda bummed out at how the motorcycle dealership I went to handled talking about the Zero tho. The guy knew nothing about the bike...

    Angry about HPWC replacement cost

I get what you're saying, but I've used the UMC maybe 3 times in 9 months? It was super helpful in those 3 scenarios tho. I just found the statement implying the car was basically useless without the HPWC and thus Tesla should have an EIGHT YEAR warranty on it absurd. It's not a Jansport...

    Supercharger - Dedham, MA

Swung by at night on May 18. They've made a lot of progress! There is now an opaque temporary glaze on the window, but there are enough gaps that I could fit the camera through. It also helped that they kept the lights on :D Starting from the left side: Looks like they've bumped out the...

It's a double edged sword. It sucks for people buying but bodes well for resale value.

What is the driving range in Valet Mode??

drove around for about 15 miles in valet mode the other day. Didn't notice a difference in my wh/m at all, in fact it went up. I think the terrain you're driving over has more effect on your range than the mode you're in. I still think it would be possible for Tesla to make an eco mode that...

    Firmware 6.2

I like the new look. They're really moving away from skeuomorphic designs and thus the subtle vestigial connection to gas cars.

    Tesla Model X Cancellation

Just think about how much of my VALUABLE TIME was wasted reading this thread! That's at least $500/hr, let's be real. Not to mention all the emotional distress I have suffered. And the cost of all my therapy. And the cost of the lattes I purchased at Starbucks and drank while in the waiting...

    Firmware 6.2

well in the case of my SO having used the car last... it's usually gangsta rap, LOL. I am working on another tesla comic soon (involving batteries). But that would be a fun idea too :)
  19. Rheazombi

    Firmware 6.2

they should make it a configurable option. One of my pet peeves in sitting down in a quiet car and then suddenly the stereo starts BLASTING me in the face.

    CHAdeMO adapter wait frustration

Well, at least we get one! Imagine being a LEAF owner and waiting for Nissan to allow Supercharging adapters... (not that the car could handle it anyway >_> )

@majerus: On the contrary, I think you should bug Tesla about it until they legit fix it. vvvvvv @sorka: Just call them about it!

Should Model S have a solar panel?

Some clarifications I would like to make regarding this scenario: Thanks for the idea of using a storage facility, I'll have to look into that. How much cheaper would it actually be though? The Logan price sucked, but I was able to get them to cut it in half once I explained my scenario to the...

    CHAdeMO adapter wait frustration

Received mine in the mail Tuesday afternoon. Yayy. Can't wait to try it out around Boston. Too bad every CHAdeMO here is at a car dealership and they all use the crappy slim chargers that are prone to overheating >_>
  26. Rheazombi

Should Model S have a solar panel?

I'm fine with the price being high as long as you get what you pay for. People spend thousands of bucks already just for some fancy rims that do nothing (no offense), it would just be cool to have the option for a solar power roof (my threshold for usefulness is 5-10 miles a day. I ain't asking...

CA Bill To Limit Tax-Funded Rebates To Cars Under $40,000

Yeah, it does seem somewhat... ironic/sad that a Californian politician would want to take away incentives for Californians who want to buy California-made cars.
  28. Rheazombi

    Doors quality

Well I'm going there anyway for some other minor issues that have piled up. I tried yanking on it myself and it slid back to where it was. I trust the Tesla guys to be able to fix it better than I ever could.

  32. Rheazombi

CA Bill To Limit Tax-Funded Rebates To Cars Under $40,000

My 2 cents: The whole point of these rebates is because EVs have a premium on them over gas cars. It's not really their fault, it's a new technology, the economies of scale aren't up to par with gas cars yet, and there's other added challenges EVs face like infrastructure issues, state laws...

    Firmware 6.2

That would be awesome if true. I'll have to try it out later. Always hated how they pop out like that. I've actually been in a situation in my ICE car where the second I parked, a creepy guy popped out of nowhere and yanked my door handles and tried getting in my car! Because I always have my...

    Bugs in firmware 6.2

It should be a configurable option IMO. I've had moments where I got in the car after my SO had been driving it, I sit down in the quiet car and I am suddenly BLASTED with gangsta rap, lol. Starting the car with music on mute would be a blessing in most cases for me :P

GM recalls 64,000 Chevy Volts for shut off problem

Gas engines are more dangerous than electric batteries, period. The Volt is only potentially dangerous because of its gas engine. If it was a pure BEV, there would be no recall. You said: " I see nothing about this functionality that's inherently bad. " This is akin to saying home space...

GM recalls 64,000 Chevy Volts for shut off problem

Hmm, don't recall anyone ever dying from waiting an hour to charge their car. People die every year from CO poisoning from their gas cars. False equivalency much?

    Bugs in firmware 6.2

I already posted this in the big 6.2 thread but it's more relevant here. I have had the same Nav problems that others have been reporting. Also with saved addresses. This photo was taken while I was already at home, yet it says my home is 24 miles away! (The redacted part is my correct home...

    Firmware 6.2

The pano roof is working again. Sort of. I think it may be a mechanical issue with the motor, unrelated to the software. Here's what happens with the Nav (imagine when this photo was taken, I am already AT home. And the redacted part is my correct home address. Interesting that I am not...

Should Model S have a solar panel?

Wow, way to judge without knowing my situation whatsoever. I have no dedicated parking at home. Pray tell, how can I leave my car unattended on a street in Boston for 6 months when I would have to move my car every 2 weeks for street sweeping? Also, your last sentence is absurd, as I park her...

GM recalls 64,000 Chevy Volts for shut off problem

Lol yeah, cus only Teslas have ever run over road debris, and gas tanks have never been punctured ever. This volt problem is something that would only ever happen to a series hybrid.
  44. Rheazombi

    Firmware 6.2

Noticed some bugs Got it yesterday morning. The new nav stuff is awesome! Hope they continue to improve it though. Since upgrading the firmware I have noticed a few bugs though. * The pano roof no longer opens or closes. This may or may not be related but it was working fine the day before...

GM recalls 64,000 Chevy Volts for shut off problem

Weren't some people already injured by this? They left the car turned on, they didn't realize it was on because it is silent, then the battery ran out, car went into gas mode on its own and filled the garage with Carbon Monoxide. It's absurd that GM never thought this through to begin with.

    CHAdeMO adapter wait frustration

Kinda crazy that this thread started almost 2 years ago, with Tesla reluctant to develop one at all!
  47. Rheazombi

Elon "About to end range anxiety"

+1. I see 6.2 as a step in the direction I'd been hoping they would go for a long time, but I hope they keep improving it. It would be awesome to be fully integrated with plugshare, and show every possible charger, its charging speed, whether it's in use/broken down, etc. Also, the...

Should Model S have a solar panel?

That image is inherently hilarious. What I don't get about that thing is... where does it go when it's folded up? It's not something you can take with you, therefore, I don't get why it needs to fold up at all. In any case, the Model S has much more room to hide foldable panels than the...

Should Model S have a solar panel?

I actually quite like this idea, lol. ... Sorry to necromance a year old thread, but I've always liked the idea of solar integrated with an EV. I know the thread is mostly very negative toward the idea of solar panels, but I would love it. I live in an apt with no covered parking and no...
