Well that’s a terrible sign. Should be a a warning (triangle) as it not an instruction until you actually hit the speed restriction. On the railway an advance warning indicator is a completely different shape from a speed restriction sign.

Kids around here love using the 20 signs at the ends of roads as target practice when playing football, so more than half of them are facing the faster road in one direction. Car dutifully spots them all and updates the speed limit but only occasionally complains I’m going too fast thankfully.

I’m still gutted my car can’t run Vampire Survivors. That’s hardly a graphically intensive title but for some reason requires a Ryzen.

    Security of Phone/Card/Key?

    Battery life...

Also, when was the 294 figure seen? It’s still pretty chilly overnight and the battery takes a long time to warm up via ambient temperatures, so you might be comparing a BMS estimate based on weeks of cold overnight temps vs a few weeks of warm weather.

    What’s your job?

Database Admin/Engineer. I sit in the basement and roll my eyes when Brenda from Finance gets herself confused with what year it is. Again.

That's generally how software companies and large corporate IT teams release software updates, normally known as Rings or Waves. Can be wildly different, but how we do it: Ring 0 = Developers, testers, admins Ring 1 = QA testers, early adopters Ring 2 = Small group of 'normal' everyday users...

Helvetia (& Tesla?) no longer offering extended warranties

What they should do is charge you for the repairs but knock it off the extended warranty price when it does become available. Probably won’t be that sensible though.

Autopilot also gets "updates" via map/route changes. Plenty of tales of weird behaviour in the same location caused by dodgy map info that suddenly goes away when the route is fixed. And disabling radar fixed a very reproducable bit of phantom breaking I had. Pretty sure it was a tree and steep...

Lighting, headlights/brakelights, spray volume, cleanliness of glass will all be variables. Camera based rain detection is hard because there are so many variables.

Conversely, there is no way in hell that the wiper algorithm is changed after every update (including every point release and bug fix). And yet each release has people saying they got better or worse after it.

Helvetia (& Tesla?) no longer offering extended warranties

Looks like they're in the process of setting up a new one. https://www.tesla.com/en_gb/support/extended-warranty now says So if anyone is approaching their warranty expiry date (and is interested in an extended warranty), send them an email asap.

Which wider tyres for uber turbines?

I went with Falken FK520 245/35/20 and immediately bopped the kerb in the local NCP when driving away from the barriers and the alloys survived unscathed.

Yeah, it's a limitation without a fix and whenever I do a u-turn on any roundabout I'm always more aware that it's an unusual maneuver and people at the last 'normal' turnoff I could have used could assume I'm leaving there and enter. Sod all you can do about it other than be careful, as even on...

    [UK] 2023.44

Mini roundabouts are usually things you can indicate on approach and everyone else can see your intentions from that. If there’s time I’ll indicate when coming off them too, but given how small they are you’re quite often pointed at the exit (or entering it) by the time you’ve passed the...

I’m getting this regularly too. I rarely get warnings, so I’ve only just noticed that if you change the volume while a message is on screen the volume slider appears over the message…. amazing

How many people are having connectivity issues?

If the car radios support the bands it uses (T-Mobile US are saying it'll use their mid-band, so somewhere in the 1ghz-6ghz range), then it could just be enabled without needing new hardware. The telcos that have signed up seem to think it'll work with most existing 4g/5g handsets. Interestingly...

    [UK] 2023.44

Had a weird issue yesterday. Drove for an hour, popped into somewhere to collect something and when I got back in the car it wouldn’t adjust the seat/wheel back to how it was on the drive there. Tried every profile and nothing, easy entry had seemingly been applied to them all. Had to pull to a...

    So… Highland is out…

I don’t think Tesla had that on their mind at all, it’s just a potential side effect that could be a positive over a long term. I don’t think they’re going to re-add stalks unless someone forces them to. If anything, other manufacturers are probably watching with a lot of interest to see if they...

    2023 Holiday Update

Did a 2 hour trip along the M6/M58/M61 as well as a bit of Wigwam today during some biblical rain as well as cracking sunshine and actually left the auto wipers on. No dry wipes, but given the rain over the past few weeks that wouldn't be possible anyway... I don't think they've got better or...

    So… Highland is out…

I don't think that video is a great example, lot of comments on the video saying he's doing it wrong and I'm pretty sure you arent supposed to ever indicate when going straight ahead except for before the exit. I'm wondering if one of the benefits of the buttons is a bit of re-mapping of...

How many people are having connectivity issues?

I can't imagine them limiting it to just a single band. You'd be guaranteed all sorts of problems, as you say networks use different bands in different locations depending on what their signal requirements are. A mast on a hill out in the middle of nowhere designed for covering a huge area is...

Need to replace two tyres, should I go for CrossClimate 2s?

The CC2s are great. Just a shame I can never find any for 20" wheels :( Though I swear by Falken. I put some FK520's on in the summer and for a summer tyre they're fantastic in the cold and wet, much better than the Pilot Sports it had on before.

    2023 Holiday Update

One of the downsides of USS is how basic they are. Yeah it's great that the car can tell me I'm 26cm away from a wall, but it can't give you any nuance about anything but the nearest 'object' that it's bouncing sound off of. My drive has a dip where it meets the road, nothing as severe to catch...

    Converting UK Lights To EU

It’s always done this, the undocumented part of the change is it now actually pops up a message when it does it. It used to just happen silently.

10 Days out of warranty Model 3 heating failure...

You could easily argue 8 years given that’s the battery/drive unit warranty. A heater is pretty important and a broken one could make the car dangerous to drive in winter, so it should last at least as long as the other components that are critical to the car actually being usable.

    2023 Holiday Update

Well they are commonly referred to as "safety cameras" by the Police/campaign groups, and who wouldn't want to know where the accident black spots are that have caused them to be installed? It's all in the name of safety, innit? Not like the 4 coppers who regularly camp on a benign stretch of...

    2023 Holiday Update

Yeah my .4 update never listed speed cameras in the apps patch notes link you get next to the button to start the update, but when I checked the release notes from the link at the bottom of the app home page it lists it. Not had a drive today so no idea if it's working or not, might see tomorrow.

    2023 Holiday Update

It looks like it’s getting it spot on from the pictures. Rear wheel close to the kerb based on the repeater cameras and that’s what the visual is showing, quite how the driver managed to get his front tyre against the kerb we’ll never know. People **** up reversing manoeuvres all the time, even...

    2023 Holiday Update

No stats (?!), but given “touch sensitive” is just capacitive touch, the material on some gloves or a stylus would likely fool it. Or a battery! There were plenty of idiots buying the little weights to fool the old Tesla system so surely some enterprising individual could seize the initiative...

    How long to pre-condition?

Main benefit of preconditioning in very cold weather is to avoid having limited regen for the first 30 mins or so of your trip. And having a warm bum on entry. As others have said, it’s more for convenience than necessary, so don’t sweat getting it exactly timed. I usually set it for the time...

    EV servicing costs

Corrosion on the surface isn’t enough to need to replace them, it’s not an MOT fail as it’s just, er, surface corrosion. It’ll go with some frequent use or some intentional burnishing and they should still pass the brake test. Seized callipers obviously a different matter and can be pretty...

    First winter. Wh/mi ouch.

Yep, the heat pump versions will take heat from the motors to warm the cabin when available, so on a long run you'll get better efficiency. The Tesla battery/motor/cabin cooling is pretty advanced. It's one of the reasons they have such good efficiency, they try to make use of waste heat...

[UK] Is it worth buying a 2019 M3P in 2023?

This was always my upgrade criteria, faster faster faster. Problem is, where do you go from a M3P? It's either a right handed Tesla or win the bloody lottery :D But yeah, get one. It's a damn fun car, you're getting the year with most of the good kit (barring heatpump) and it'll get you from A...

[UK] Is it worth buying a 2019 M3P in 2023?

The spoilers like to come loose, and I had a Fremont boot that was badly misaligned and caused damage to the paint and lights over time (and slams) but that was all sorted under warranty. It also has this habit of rearranging my organs at traffic lights.

Tesla service : First impressions: Not good

Or, as I had with Audi, they fail to find the issue with my headlights flashing people under acceleration/deceleration and still charge you the £75 diagnostic fee. Luckily I had a dashcam on the car so when I reviewed the footage I saw and heard them make the mistake of looking in the wrong...

    Octopus Go/Go Faster/Flux/Agile/IO ??

I’ve found it needs to almost have line of sight to the meter. A bit of wood between it is fine, anything metal or electrical will kill the signal dead.
