Tesla Model Y - Whilsting Noise Unresolved - Regret ever buying the car

@Adz1 is there a particular speed at which it occurs? Or is it any time the car is moving?

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Much of a muchness either way with the LFP. If it were an NMC, yes it would be best to schedule it to reach 100% shortly before departure.
  10. O

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

An 82kwh LFP battery would weigh a bomb wouldn’t it? We don’t really see many cars running LFP batteries of that capacity due to weight and size constraints. What’s the source of this story?

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

This one has me curious - it's not a complaint I've seen before! Was the issue that the random plate resembled an offensive/swear word? Or was it a superstition thing around a certain combination of numbers and letters? I think NSW RMS has some sort of system to detect sequences on number...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

No issue at all. In fact with the RWD that's actually good. Charging to 100% once or twice a week allows the car to better track the voltage in an LFP battery.

Reversing issues in new MYP = accident

Honestly, there's no substitute for keeping a proper lookout when reversing. The side mirrors are good. And the reversing camera is excellent. Large, clear and wide-angled, and most importantly, it pops up almost instantaneously. The reverse camera in my VW could take 6-7 seconds to display...

    Supercharger - Exeter, NSW

I was approaching the Canberra maccas Superchargers a few months ago, enroute back to Sydney from Jindabyne. All looking good about 15 minutes out, the car was showing I think 3 stalls free at Canberra. Then about 5 mins out, it suddenly said all chargers offline! I turned up at the chargers...

    Supercharger - Exeter, NSW

Same story today - Tesla app showing it as down, but Plugshare users are reporting it to be ok. Someone charged OK about 2 hours ago, and reports that another car was there too. Maybe some sort of a comms issue?

    3G Phase Out

I would get it done before that. When 3G gets switched off, there will be a whole bunch of people suddenly wanting it done at the same time. It will be like the passport offfice after COVID. Everyone who didn’t renew their passport during COVID suddenly needed one and the queues blew out to...

Agree with that. Put it through as a roadside issue. Looks like it’s being treated as a spare parts order.

    Model 3 Highland live now

Just a point of clarity - unlike many legacy cars, the stalks in previous Model 3's weren't "mechanical" in the same way as an ICE. They are just a long rod for actuating a microswitch. Even the gear selector is just a microswitch.

User error and/or a safety concern? Tesla stalk placement.

Every car I’ve owned for the last 20 years has had blinkers on the left. Motorcycles too for that matter.

Supercharger - Port Macquarie (Thrumster), NSW

Ok. The email refers to the Trip Planner in the app. Does that work with a non Tesla? Ie: plan out the charging stops then send the whole lot to the car‘s nav?

    Superchargers in Australia

I'm in favour of big sites with lots of stalls. That's where things are headed. Globally. Anything less than 4 stalls doesn't cut it these days. Even more so if they are using Tritium gear.

    Superchargers in Australia

Driver side headlight gets lower and lower

Yep. Simply typing "driver side headlight lower than passenger" into Google shows the same phenomenon in many modern cars fitted with self levelling headlights. Lexus, BMW, Benz, take your pick. It's normal. Left Driver Headlight is higher than Passenger side??? BIMMERPOST.com BMW Forum, BMW...

    Ear pain in Model Y

Yep I've definitely experienced that one. This buffeting can pretty much be reproduced in any car at the right speed with one window open. Agreed. First I've heard of it. Only thing I can think of is maybe the AC is on bio protection mode (or whatever it's called). This creates a slightly...

    Ear pain in Model Y

I didn't know this was a thing. The linked page is a bit hard to follow, other than one guy saying he gets the problem and his wife doesn't, in the same car, at the same time. Can you describe the issue a bit more, and also have you run it past your GP? If it was something unusual about the...

    Is Scheduled Departure Buggy?

Thats pretty close, especially for an LFP car where there’s more guesswork involved in measuring the SOC at the start of charging which was estimated at 24% but in reality +/- 5% It would have been 98% at the targeted time. That’s pretty good. Not seeing a problem here. There’s estimation...

    Home charging

If you own the home, install a wall charger. Basically do it once and do it right If renting however, the portable charger might be a better option since you can take it with you to the next house.

  45. O

Tritium asks Qld government for up to $90m bailout

3 factors I think: 1) Maintenance arrangements, and availability of trained technicians 2) Manufacturer's supply of spare parts 3) How failure prone are the units Tritium does poorly on 2 and 3. Most of us are aware of tritium chargers that have at times been offline for months awaiting...
