So I stuck my hand in the cubby towards the left and push down w my fingers then moved to right and pushed down feeling where it gave way. Use some force w your palm as well. Eventually it’ll pop down!

How about a cooling gel pad you can pull from the fridge right before the trip? or a battery powered cooling pad?

That's a good point about max charge to 50-60, I'll keep that in mind for longer trips - if it's not convenient to keep it plugged in you can also put it on saving mode and turn off connectivity, it'll go to sleep until you're back with minimal drain.
