    Solar Roof Gutter Replacement

I did. Complete exteriors had two options that work with solar roof, EZ Lock and GutterRX. Went with the latter and have been very happy.

    App options: on/start/defrost car

App updated today and I noticed you can "long press" on the quick controls to customize which buttons appear. If that is not new, it is still very cool. Trying to decide between on (fan); start; and defrost car. Does anyone know what each of these does? I normally just press the fan/on...

    Brief "outage" this morning

That makes sense, I just never got notified of it before. I wonder if this is the first one since the app updated.

    Brief "outage" this morning

Did people lose solar production briefly this morning around 11:15-11:30 eastern? I only noticed because I was loading up the powerwalls at the time and they stopped, went to the app and was not producing. "0" for a five minute window according to the app now. Across the street neighbor saw...

    Changing Solar Numbers

Glad you said that about Jan and Feb. I was running pretty far below PVWatts (like 20-30% below) and beginning to think I had greatly overestimated (which I may have anyway). Seem to be more on pace this month. In terms of the local area crew, really liked my solar roof crew, although the...

Really helpful, thanks. Noticed the same phenomenon. Think today could be a banner day if it stays clear.

    Changing Solar Numbers

On Tuesday, I had a good solar day, hitting 43.6 kwh on my 11.28 system when I checked before bedtime, or so I thought. Looking at numbers today, which will be a great day, I scrolled back in time and the Tuesday number now shows as 41.6. Have others seen the app retroactively change the solar...

Tesla app now has Solar service option

For documents, the [email protected] email address is really responsive. They can get you whatever docs you need to fill out forms, etc.

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

Tesla is definitely working on it. If you do not want to wait, the folks at sno-safe.com have a product that adheres to the inactive tiles and they are great to deal with. If you send them your layout they will provide a guide as to where to put their guards.

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

So to a point earlier in this string, elektrek is now running an article saying how great it is that the roofs shed so they can go back to making power. Also, I heard from tesla and they have a product in testing. I think by next winter it may be an install option, will see how it works for...

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

Today's heavy snow flying off my DMV roof reminded me why I do want the guards. :-)

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

I just worked through my advisor at first, while also emailing/phoning customer service. It is pretty clear to me that they tag your account with who you speak with, and they simply send you back that way once connected. It looks like "Bailee B" is now quarterbacking, but seems like they are...

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

So, I've been meaning to update this group and now is as good a time as any. First, one comment on the snow, it does seem like my roof "sheds" every 2-3 inches, which seems to reduce the potential for the major avalanche. Don't get me wrong, it's still a horrific sound and was not all that...

    Solar roof tiles and snow

To further combine these two threads, I received some samples from a company TESLA referred me to that sells "sno-guards." They adhere with an adhesive to the inactive tiles. Has to be done when temps up over 50 for proper curing, so I am waiting until spring. That gives an added advantage of...

    USB 32 Gig inadequate

OK. will pick up the 128 version of the stick I had. Took me three tries to find one that worked the first time!

    USB 32 Gig inadequate

After working for a year just fine, I am now getting an alert that I need to use a memory stick larger than 32 gigs. Anyone else seeing this? Anyone have a larger card / stick that they recommend?

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

Yes, multiple rows, especially on the big garage face.
  19. D

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

By way of update, the sno-guard folks took my plans (active tiles versus inactive) and mapped out where the roofing company can put the tiles. Easy on front and garage, where I have more inactive tiles. Back roof proving challenging, since it is all active. Trying to see what we can do around...

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

The guards cost $1.39 each! And you can install them yourself (I cannot, but maybe you can) since the manufacturer will map out where to put them for you. I am trying to get CompleteExteriors, the roofing company who did the tear down, in touch with him so they can work out where to put these...

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

One more update for you. I spoke with the owner of the company that makes the guards. His website offers a service that maps out where to put the guards based on available area, etc. I will send him some photos and have explained the active/inactive issue. Will try to put him in touch with...

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

Ok. Update number 3. I heard from my tesla advisor. While Tesla does not make a product, people who live in climates like us have success with the following. He said it just adheres. Put it on the bottom on your inactive cells. I have called the roofing company to see if they would do this and...

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

I like the idea of black plastic stuck-on guards. Could put them on that bottom row, which I believe is just glass anyway. Hopefully, this is where Tesla ends up. I will say that the gutter guards did appear to help with the damming problem. Also, my neighbor across the street has Tesla panels...

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

Update 2: heard from the Tesla installers. "Last time [he] checked, Tesla was still developing snow guards for version 3, so at this time I do not believe there is anything we can install to slow the snow down." Waiting on TESLA customer service's response.

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

Update 1: roofing company says not their issue. he wondered if Tesla had snow guards for the edge of the roof like you would for a slate roof. perhaps one of the other two people I contacted will have info. He did say, incidentally, that because the roof sits up so high, it is likely the case...

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

I noticed earlier this year there was a (facetious?) discussion on a website about heating the tiles so the snow did not accumulate. I emailed the roofing company, the tesla installer and called customer service to see how they deal with this is snowier environs. Will post responses.

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

Yeah, definitely a nuisance for your kids running out the door, too. You have to sort of listen and run. It really is insane. I wonder if we need to get the plastic stick-on-clips like the solar panels. Killing the shrubs. Going to reach out to the roofing company that did the prep and see...

    Solar Glass Snow Avalanches

So glad you posted this. I literally logged on just to discuss this phenomenon, which incidentally, my wife is not thrilled about. Just had the front roof clean. Very loud and it comes FLYING down. Also concerned about the gutters. Not sure they are built for this.

New Solar Roof owners - how much can we write off in taxes?

I plan on going with the amount TESLA calculated in putting together my price quote, and I shared that with my tax guy. I think they based it on producing tiles versus non-producing tiles, and allotted overhead on that basis. Given that this number is easy to find and reproduce, I am reluctant...

What level of output should i be seeing..

Just to give one more data point, the guy across the street has almost the exact system of the OP, but faces East West mostly. We are just north of WJGJR. Today was my first day on with a slightly smaller solar roof, so we were comparing notes at noon (I was trying to figure out if my system...

    Maryland Post-Intall Activities

Thanks so much for doing this! One potential add: call your insurance company so they can add the value to your homeowner's policy. More expensive to replace that roof than the original, for sure. Starting my paperwork now, unless Tesla can convince me they are doing it.

Maryland Solar Roof Soup to Nuts

Pepco PTO came in this morning (at least that is how I read the email), so wanted to provide an update on my experience for those contemplating this in Maryland (and, in particular, with PEPCO). Signed the purchase agreement May 28, 2020, so total time just shy of six months. Originally, it...

    A/C replacement advice

Be sure to review the a/c discussion on the following page. Very useful. What Does Powerwall Back Up | Tesla Support. I replaced my a/c right before the install, but my house is single zone with a large (5-ton) a/c. I went scroll compressor but because of the size my LRA was up over 139, so...

    Rain and the Solar Roof

to close the loop on this, I had to talk with my installers today (changed internet router in the house and they need to update the equipment), so I asked about the intent of the system in this regard. He said, in line with others above, 85-90% will sheet off the glass with 10-15% hitting the...

    Solar Roof Installation Tips

The bubbling is normal. I talked with the roofer about it as they were installing and he explained why you might get some puckering but also (on the Firestone) why it did not matter given the double layer (which, in fact, is part of the reason for the puckering). If it gets too bad, they can...

    Rain and the Solar Roof

Thanks very much for posting. Good to know I'm not the only one thinking about these things. These are fascinating. I am struck by a few things. First, how quickly water beads down. Second, how little seems to go between the tiles. I was convinced the gap between tiles would convey a lot...

    Rain and the Solar Roof

Another in my "curiosity" series of questions for those who are more experienced. Does anyone have a sense of how much rain, if any, makes it to the underlay during a typical storm event? In looking at the roof, it looks like everything channels down to the gutter, but I don't really have any...

    Solar Roof Underlayment Change?

also fits with the trend of using more-and-more Tesla, or Tesla-branded, product line, and less and less third party branded equipment.
  41. D

    Solar Roof Underlayment Change?

Just to confirm the above, I also spoke with the roofing company that did our (Firestone) underlay install. They mentioned they had just been transitioned to the new underlay, and talked about less cost and less material (one layer), as well as quicker install with less labor. Also told me not...

    Solar Roof Underlayment Change?

Reposting from another thread here, since both threads are dealing with this topic: Just spoke with the lead of the Tesla team that did my install a few weeks ago. Solar Roof Installation Tips

Just spoke with the lead of the Tesla team that did my install a few weeks ago. He said they had not received the new underlayment at that time but I got the impression they are using it now. Said they made the switch for two reasons: 1. They do not need to overlap and can put it down in...

    Solar Roof Installation Tips

It is interesting that the Firestone product documentation says, multiple times, that it is not for residential use. I wonder why and I wonder if part of the reason Tesla looked to switch was because Firestone could get out of warranty obligations to Tesla because of the residential use, and...

    Adding to a Solar Roof

Interesting. And there are a number of threads on a related issue. I went with a black, single seam metal roof on a smaller area of my house and it looked really good with the solar.

    Adding to a Solar Roof

Curious about something. I know with solar panels, you can later add new panels on a separate system essentially. What about with solar roof though? As tech improves, or even just you decide you need more generation, can you replace the tesla roof tiles (just glass) with tesla solar tiles...

    Solar Roof Installation Tips

For us it was (almost) entirely the roofing company pre-Tesla. The Tesla folks occasional had to place small pieces along edges and trim, but the roof was mainly covered in SA-FR before the Tesla people arrived.

    Solar Roof Installation Tips

That IS interesting (picking up on our thread from the other conversation). I will say, the Firestone was VERY slippery and they could not even go up first thing in the morning. Had to wait for it to dry. Likely costs us 1-2 days over the duration of the install. If this is superior in that...

    Solar Roof Underlayment Change?

Yes, at least on that part. Did they run out and they try using that crappy thin looking gray material? Is that the problem. In a later picture, it almost looks like they have solar tiles over just the gray stuff. No white Firestone underlay.
