    Supercharger - Gustine, CA (12 V2 stalls)

We used the head-in stall while pulling a UHaul trailer. We didn't need to unhitch since the trailer was short enough that we weren't blocking the aisle. It was UHaul's 5 x 8' cargo trailer.

    Chademo charging

We've driven cross country three times, once in our Model S, and twice in our Model X. While we have not used it often, it has come in handy a few times when we visit people that live in apartments so that we can't charge where they live. This happened once in Montclair, CA where we charged at...

Citations for charging our car at Yellowstone

He wanted to confiscate the charger so that we would not leave without visiting the ranger station. As it turned out, we returned to our car before the officer left the scene.

I didn't mention anything about damage to the car. As I said, I am not one hundred per cent sure that he broke it. We have over 20 k miles of road trips and we have charged away from home dozens of times so it could have happened anywhere. It was just the first time I noticed that the cable...

Here's an update on my violation notice in Yellowstone. I called the US Attorney's office on Monday and they said they would review my case and get back to me within a couple of days. He just called back this morning and said that they are dismissing my case. He said it didn't seem like I...

No I didn’t catch it on video. We have a front dashcam but it wouldn’t see anything in back. I’m only assuming he broke it—it used to lock and now it doesn’t.

There is very little cell coverage at Yellowstone, at least with AT&T.

The first thing he said was "This is not a Tesla charging station. You are stealing electricity." So I did get the impression there was some history there.

All the ranger we talked to were very nice. This was a National Park Service police officer. When I said that we asked a ranger where to charge the cop said "Well they didn't ask us."

I agree that it was my fault. I disagree that there are tons of places to charge in Yellowstone. If you want to sit around all day charging then okay but if you actually want to drive around and see things then there needs to at least level 3 chargers and a lot more of them.

Teslafi said that we charged for 43 minutes before our charging cable was yanked out and 5.6 kWh was added. Accounting for charging inefficiency and say $0.20 /kWh we're only talking about a couple of bucks of electricity. I would have gladly paid much more than that if there was some...

I usually ask everywhere. Earlier that morning we were at the Lake Hotel and it was listed on PlugShare as a place that had charging. The man behind the desk drew me a map of where to drive a few hundred yards away where I could plug in. "So I can just plug in?" I asked. He said "Just go...

My wife and I visited Yellowstone National Park last weekend with our Model X. Neither of us had been there for 35 years and we were eager to see the magnificent sights in the park with a clean vehicle. Since Yellowstone is so big and the charging opportunities are so few I was anxious to plug...

Charging Etiquette - Be Kind to those Towing

Last month we towed a 5 x 8' U-Haul cargo trailer from the Bay Area to southern California. It was our first time towing with the Model X and it was fine. As expected we took longer to make the trip due to the slower driving speed and the extra charging. We were probably towing about...

I had both of our front door latches replaced today. The driver side latch was grinding and the door could not be closed manually.

    Help with charging solution

Here's the link: Power Joiner Step Up Inverter Electric Car Charger Converts Dual 20amp 120volt Outlets To 240volt I know it seems a little pricey for such a simple box but they have done all the engineering and construction for you. I have had a circuit breaker fail in my box and I just...

    Help with charging solution

Here's a sort of kludgy option. If you have 120 V outlets in your garage that are on separate branches you can double the voltage to 240 V using a suitable box (Steambrite). That would give you 6 - 10 miles of range per hour of charging which might be enough depending on you daily driving...

Turning off regen and power limiting for increased range

You can turn off regen by popping it into neutral. As pointed out by someone above, it is risky but with practice and paying attention you can use it safely. There are times when it is more efficient coasting instead of regenerating but it is more risky and is technically illegal in some...

    Trak 4x4 Snow Chains

After removing the appropriate lug nut caps, I installed the chains today and they worked great. With practice it just takes a couple of minutes to put them on and a minute to take them off. Most of the time will be spent putting them in and taking them out of the bag. Of course, the real...

First road trip in your MX

We did 8700 miles last summer in our Model S. We used the CHADEMO adapter twice--once in Charlottesville, VA and once in Albuquerque, NM. Both times it was welcome. Not as fast as superchargers but much faster than Level 2 chargers.

    Trak 4x4 Snow Chains

I heard back from Tesla Online Orders: Thank you for your patience while we verified information on your behalf. Although, the chains are only recommended for the 19” Cyclone and 20” Helix wheels, to use them with the current 20” standard wheels on your Model X, you will have to remove the lug...

    Trak 4x4 Snow Chains

A couple of weeks ago I ordered the Trak 4x4 chains for our Model X. At that time the Tesla website said that they were compatible with 19" and 20" wheels on the Model X. When I received them, the Tesla literature included with the chains said they only fit the 19" Cyclone and 20" Helix...

    Horrible Horrible and Terrible Day!

On the Model S there are two reboot procedures. Is that also true for the Model X? Did you try both? The dash reboot on S is initiated by pressing both the two upper buttons for > 15 sec.

Supercharger - Las Vegas, NV - Bridger Ave.

We were charging at the Las Vegas supercharger on Monday, 5/12 and there were a couple of stalls blocked off. Some electricians were working on some overhead conduit. I asked what was going on and one said not to worry--their work would not affect my charging. Then the other one said that...

    Tesla Supercharger network

We were at Harris Ranch a couple of weeks ago and the single charger by the Shell station had been dismantled with a handwritten sign saying to charge at the stalls near the restaurant. It looked permanent but I haven't been back since.

    roof rack

I did not experience the fit problems that you describe. Everything seems to fit pretty well. I don't use it with a bike rack. I intend to use it with a cargo box. I put in a couple of sleeping bags and went for a test drive and it doesn't seem excessively noisy up to 70 - 75 mph. I don't...

    My bikes fit!

The biggest negative is that with the receiver installed I bottom out on certain driveways going out but not in. I go to "very high" on the air suspension and that seems to help. I remove it when I don't plan to use it for a while. It takes a couple of minutes to take it off and then there is...

    My bikes fit!

I can't say for sure but I don't think it voids the warranty. Johnny at the Menlo Park service center went out to look at it when I told him that I had installed it since he had never seen one. Then they proceeded to do some warranty repair on the car.

    My bikes fit!

My son and I installed the Torklift Central Eco Hitch a couple of months ago. It's not hard--it just takes a long time. We spent most of the day doing it. If we were to do it again it would probably take half the time since we would know what to do. You definitely need to raise the back end...

    roof rack

My son and I installed the Torklift hitch with a 2" receiver. We use it with a 1up-USA bike rack. We have only used it a couple of times but we really like it and it is way easier than putting both our bikes in the back.
