Any Ford Owners Receive Free NACS Adapter Yet?

I placed reservation shortly after Ford getting access became official. It's been crickets ever since. Anyone get an adapter yet?

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I get tired of intentionally biased media. It's kind of turned me off from some outlets that I used to watch occasionally. I don't mind reasoned criticism or praise, but it's becoming just sensational garbage in some cases. I would also like to note my personal outlook on environmentalism, as...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I saw something about them not having locking "differentials" yet, if it even has differentials. Although does it have some kind of limited slip software? Both are kind of trying to achieve the same thing in different ways. A locking differential can literally lock the differential solid...

Presumably the purpose of airing down and increasing contact patch is to reduce the weight per square inch, or to be more 'light' you could say.

    Elon's views

Curious if anyone thinks Elon is perhaps presenting a public image of himself that is crafted for social engineering purposes. His behavior has been quite right leaning in flamboyant attention getting ways. And he has also been pretty lukewarm on Ukraine, talking about peace deals instead of...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Environmental friendliness is just one possible aspect among many, and may not have been one for this particular buyer, and even if it was you are talking about two different classes of problems that might be weighted differently. Why are those rules in place for that particular beach? If it's...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I think for sand you probably need something light, or different wheels/tires that can spread the weight out more. Not a good choice for a stock EV truck, or even a stock ICE truck.

Windshield wiper controls are the worst about a Tesla

The problem with automatic systems is that it's like having a leprechaun in the car with you manning the controls. Sure, now you don't have to do it yourself, but it's still annoying to have in the car with you and how often it actually does what you want will be entirely random.

How to View Twitter Tweets In Era of X

Curious if anyone has any solutions for how to view someone's recent Twitter posts. I used to have a Twitter account, but these days when I try to log in it just "oops something went wrong". So I can't log in anymore, I guess. If I try to view someone's Twitter feed, like say Tom Nichols, the...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

As a [romantic|patriotic|idiot|choose-your-verb] American, my one bias is I like to buy American brand vehicles, having owned a mix of Ford, Chevy, Jeep, Tesla, Mercury, and Cadillac. Beyond that, I'm just a fan of what I think is good, and good is a mix of utility, coolness, reliability, cost...

Cybertruck Steer By Wire Safety Concerns and Details

For the record, I brought this concern up before I knew of any of those Cybertruck trouble reports that some folks have posted links for. I'm sure they will get it working reliably eventually, but this is why I was not so keen on it starting out. I also realize FUDsters will now be hunting and...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I want to see a bucket dump test. Sounds silly, and it will probably work okay, but will your average skid steer driver at the local gravel and mulch yard have any difficulty dumping a bucket of gravel or mulch into the bed? That's a use case I actually utilize quite a bit. It's far cheaper...

    Model S Highway Range

So coming back to this thread, I still didn't know what range the current Model S is capable of (generally looking for warm weather ~70 MPH range). I did however find this Bjorn video with some range test data . He has data for 90 and 120 km/h, which is about 55 mph and 75 mph. His data says...

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

I'm not sure I would agree. Maybe things are harder and more expensive now for gas engines, but the first half of my life I was poor and was always content in knowing that I could repair my gas engine cars and have it be within my budget. I even rebuilt a couple of engines down to their core...

    Supercharger - Independence, MO

I finally went by the charging site today. Very interesting. The 8 new stalls are V3 superchargers. However, there are also 8 Tesla L2 chargers on the site, the ones that have both the Tesla NACS plug and a J1772 adapter; those ones are 48 amp. I was unable to charge my F-150 Lightning on...

The F-150 Lightning Is not what I expected - Anyone else feel the same?

Hm...maybe it is a subset. If that's true, then might have to trust the Ford app to know. Not that I want to rely on that. I think Tesla should update their online maps to indicate this information. I trust them and their software more than anyone else to provide accurate information on what...

The F-150 Lightning Is not what I expected - Anyone else feel the same?

I've already ordered the free adapter for my Lightning. The charging price for Ford is higher than it is for Tesla, based on the first report I've seen (in the specific location I saw info for, the Tesla price was 0.34, whereas for Ford it was 0.45, both too high in my opinion). It also seems...

    Surreal Dealership Visit

I just spent some time thoroughly looking over a dealership lot yesterday, something I haven't done in a long time. It was a Ford dealership. I found it to be a surreal experience. First surreal observation was that Ford does not sell any cars anymore. I didn't even realize that. No...

    EV Tire Life

Information on how weight impacts tire tread life is not easy to find. I haven't done a ton of research yet, but most reports are just anecdotal statements about weight affecting tread life without any backing data to support the claims. I don't doubt it has some affect, but the question is...

The F-150 Lightning Is not what I expected - Anyone else feel the same?

The solution is for Tesla to immediately discontinue V3 superchargers and only build and install V4 superchargers, with the stations installed centered at front of the parking space. This solves the problem completely, without manufacturers having to change their charge port locations...

    EV Tire Life

I'm going to do some research on the tire life for EVs. There's been a lot of talk lately about tires not lasting as long on EVs vs gas cars, but I think this argument is probably heavily overblown and partially driven by the FUD crowd that doesn't like EVs. I've personally experienced no...

Cybertruck Steer By Wire Safety Concerns and Details

So I'm getting a lot of down votes here for feeling dubious about steer by wire, and that's fine. Hopefully it will be reliable in the Cybertruck. Cybertruck is a scam.

On the plus side, we've come a long way from the early days of EVs when everyone thought they were weak little micro-mobiles with zero fast chargers for travel. An EV truck back then would have been almost unimaginable. Now we actually have them, and are just arguing about how how they can...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

There's a distinction to be aware of though. Not good enough vs. okay, yeah, that will do. For long range towing, the F-150 Lightning or Rivian are in the NOT good enough category. But I think the Silverado is in the good enough category. It's still not as good as gas, but it's usable, and I...

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

Some thoughts after 10 years of me driving and living with EVs. They do pretty much everything we need them to do (save for fully support pull through towing). We still need better infrastructure, but that's coming. Purchase cost is still an issue. But I think there is really just one major...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I just watched a video on the Silverado (4WT) where the did a towing test against a gas truck. To counter folks who say an EV truck can't tow, the Silverado actually did quite well, managing 232 miles towing a trailer until it had to recharge. The gas truck towing the same trailer used 23.6...

Power Rear View Mirrors with Memory

Power Rear View Mirrors with Memory

Yeah, but you can say that about any of the other things with memory. A seat. The side mirrors. The pedals. The steering wheel. Each takes 2 seconds to adjust. So why have memory for any of them then?

Power Rear View Mirrors with Memory

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

This may be an ongoing trend where the polls do not properly reflect the voters, and I think it's at least partially backlash against Trump-like politics that some conservatives do not like, and anti-Ukraine is a part of that. There's a block of voters swinging D as a result, and that block...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I still think that's a pessimistic estimate. Mine is 10 years old and doing perfectly fine. I could see it lasting for up to 20 more as long as some random cells don't glitch out and cause a fault. Beyond that, range is fine, yearly range loss is minimal, and it charges fine.

The F-150 Lightning Is not what I expected - Anyone else feel the same?

Ease of entry/exit was a concern for me as well that I didn't mention. Though I was actually concerned that the F-150 might to too high, causing...

Where To Spend the Carbon Budget

I kind of view beef as currently untouchable. Any attempts or even discussions of carbon emissions in relation to livestock usage will just result in a stalemate at best, and more likely, additional backlash against attempts to reduce carbon emissions. It shouldn't even be in the discussion...

Bass Pro Supercharger in Independence, MO (Kansas City) Has New Stalls

Anyone been to the Bass Pro Supercharger station passing through Kansas City lately? I just switched from 2020 Model 3 Performance to 2023 Lightning Lariat. Where To Spend the Carbon Budget

As a brief political side note, I think it would help if those who want to work on the carbon emissions problem would more often present it as a risk management business problem, as that is ultimately what it is, and it would be more attractive to conservatives when viewing it through that lens.

Where To Spend the Carbon Budget

I sometimes think of carbon emissions as a business problem. Business engages in risk management. Carbon emissions are a risk. The likelihood is high, the scope is high, the risk is high. It's a high impact risk. Any business with any sense would engage in mitigating that risk. The only...

The F-150 Lightning Is not what I expected - Anyone else feel the same?

I agree on all points but I do think it's worth considering how to make EV trucks work for towing if batteries do not improve further. There is no guarantee we will be able to make them 2x to 3x better down the road, but the desire to engage in risk management in response to carbon emissions...

    F-150 Lightning Thoughts

Absolutely. It will only be V3 and V4 Superchargers, and the V3 is not ideal. But I'm actually okay with this, and reassured by current Supercharger build out. I didn't survey the entire country, but in my state there are already quite a few 250 kW Tesla chargers, which means they have to be...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

It's no different than for gas. The only reason you don't have pull through chargers now is because the infrastructure is still in it's infancy and it's cheaper to build charging stations into existing parking spaces. In an EV future, gas stations would probably start converting into charging...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

The batteries would not expire rather quickly. Battery life is often rated in number of charge cycles, which if you aren't using it much, would be experiencing fewer charge cycles. The power you could get on a camper from solar isn't miniscule. It's insufficient on a vehicle that has a tiny...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

For range, I was one of those folks that said Cybertruck falls short. I'd like to see bigger battery options, for towing if nothing else. And I think the range extender is a bad idea as shown. However, it got me thinking about the future of towing in an EV world. I would guess this has been...
