Need to replace my all season and snow tires , what are folks using in Canada?

Apologies. my bad. These older CrossClimates of mine are actually 98 Y. The newer CC 2s only have the 98 V in that size, but I would not hesitate to choose them or the Nokian 98 V today.

Need to replace my all season and snow tires , what are folks using in Canada?

Agree about the speed rating. KAL tire's website won't recommend an "All-weather" 235 45r18 98 V for my M3LR, and no 98 W "All-weather's" in that size exist on their website, but three 98 Vs do. So you have to persuade them to go with a 98 V. Currently running Michelin CrossClimates 98 V in...

Supercharger - Kitchener, ON - Ottawa Street South

The L2 chargers look like standard Tesla home chargers, so prolly don't have any way of charging $$. Free electrons I guess? Any idea what the kW is?

Chargers still wrapped and no green electrical box that I could see yesterday

Official Tesla CCS1 adaptor now available in Canada.

Had similar problems a year or so ago. It's especially bad in the cold when that bulky cable is so stiff. I ended up maneuvering the car across two charging lanes so the cable wasn't twisted and didn't put too much stress on the Tesla port.( I was the only car there). But I haven't used them...

Coldest day of 2024, heater stopped working.

I park my truck and trailer near Huntsville ON, but keep a 12V "battery maintainer " on them as they're not used that frequently. The batteries have typicaly lasted ~8 years when maintained that way. So I'm surprised the Tesla hi voltage battery doesn't do a better job as a 12V "battery...

Not as of yesterday ... but there were a lot of snow piles around so perhaps under one of them 😏

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

Ivy has 50kW chargers up North. Hearst even. You need a CCS adapter. Or Chademo. But hopefully their charging interface has improved; I had nothing but problems a year or 2 ago at their enroute chargers.

Ontarians, if you switch to the ULO rates, pls be careful your charging schedule.

This has happened to me frequently over the last year or 2. Sometimes not. So I always check after plugging in during the day.

New Model Y…going away for 3 months

Similar experience here with our 2021 M3LR. ~0.5 kWh/day or less, over 2 months sitting in the basement of our condo. Just don't use Sentry mode, and don't check on it with Tesla app all the time (that wakes it up from deep sleep).

Anyone knows the Y AWD LR coming from China uses NCM or LFP battery?

    No, just from news reports.

    That's my understanding.

Road trip south, snow tires off?

We go thru West Virginia and the Appalachians and so appreciate the winter tires. Our tires are "all-weather": Michelin CrossClimate with the triple peak/snowflake symbol, and we leave them on all year.

Anyone knows the Y AWD LR coming from China uses NCM or LFP battery?

Just looked through Toronto area inventory and based on the reported ranges there are both LG and Panasonic LR Y's still available. The longer range ones, Fremont Panasonics?, tend to be cheaper, as they've been sitting on the lot longer?

Non Tesla DC chargers are really expensive!

Yup. Think it was Ivy software on the phone. Maybe it's better now. I even tried their Card but it too was erratic. Just tried the adapter again at Cookstown Tanger Outlets. Used Chargepoint App with 50kW Flo CCS charger. Worked ok. $0.54 per kWh, compared to Tesla's 60 cents in Barrie, but...

Non Tesla DC chargers are really expensive!

Another reason not to use them. I had nothing but trouble getting my Tesla ccs adapter to work with Enroute Ivy. Communication problems. Tried a few times, got it to work once or twice, gave up the rest. Also, those stiff, heavy cables and the bulky adapter looked like they would break my...

Does it not work w/o premium as long as the car is connected to the internet via your phone's Hotspot? I know you need premium for traffic updates ...

Has anyone installed Gen 3 Wall Connector in Ontario (Canada)?

Hunh. One of the reasons I ended up using the existing drier circuit (24A cont) in our 100A panel is that adding another (especially 32A) circuit could potentially overload the panel. And I didn't want to upgrade our electrical service to 200A.
  21. B

Ontario Ivy Home Charger $1000. rebate

Slower cause a dryer circuit is limited to only 24A continuous. So 240Vx24A=5760W. A built-in Tesla charger can give you a lot more if you need it. We don't.
  22. B

Ontario Ivy Home Charger $1000. rebate

We use Tesla's mobile connector that came with car (not any more I guess). Plug it into a dryer 240V socket (had to buy an adapter). Slower, but all we need.

    Rentals charging at Superchargers?

Around 8pm Tuesday a line of about 10 Tesla's appeared at Sherway Gardens, GTA, Ontario, waiting to get a spot. All the drivers had reflective gear, some with rental logos (Hertz was one iirc). And a van was waiting to take the drivers away. This site is crowded and slow enough without these...

    Ontario Insurance. BelairDirect?

So, turns out the BelairDirect quote included a 15% discount for also insuring your home. Without that, CAA was cheaper for the Tesla alone. Also I substantially overestimated the Tesla part of our Intact Insurance (home+autos), and it included several significant options the others didn't...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Perhaps a Loess smooth is preferable to the linear plot. But it gives a simlar 95% C.I to the linear plot at the right edge: ~74-75.5 kWh at 2 years and 27.5K kms.

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Two years since we purchased our M3LR, built June 2021 at Fremont. Have been using AlanSubie4Life's est. of battery capacity since purchase. (See sticky) Calculating Your Battery's Estimated Capacity Using the Car's Energy Screen Don't pay attention to range estimates much. Typically calculate...

    Phone key issues just started

I can have Tesla key issues when my Android phone is actively using Bluetooth with another device ... like ear buds. So I turn these off before approaching the car.

    Ontario Insurance. BelairDirect?

Thanks but not interested. Our son tried renting his car when working in Denmark. Too much trouble. All you need is one or two aholes to make the whole experience miserable.
  33. B

    Ontario Insurance. BelairDirect?

Thanks, I'll look into TD Meloche Monnex as well. I've got local Caa and Coop agents preparing quotes now. Belair refused to insure our house/cottage cause of an oil furnace (despite the above ground fibreglas tank), but their auto rates looked good.

OK. Thanks, will look into CAA too!

    Ontario Insurance. BelairDirect?

So any experience with BelairDirect in Ontario? Have had Intact Insurance for the last two years ($1200/yr for a 2021 m3lr) but this year they've boosted that to over $1800. Belair has just quoted me $1200. My son has used BelairDirect in the past but made no claims so don't really know if...

Hunh. That's an interesting app. Thanks for the tip!

Is the “Vehicle Only Spotify Account” included with premium connectivity in Canada?

Not much of a hassle. Just turn on hot spot before entering. But I suppose having to use your phone rather than the car's screen to set up streaming is a bit of a hassle

PAAK issue with Samsung Galaxy phones

I have a Galaxy A53, Android 13, One UI 5.1 Last winter it stopped working as a car key for several months. But I could use the Tesla app to get in. But now, after several updates (Tesla app and in-car, and Samsung) it works fine. Sorry, I can't be more specific as to what fixed it. I do...

Yep, happens to me all the time. But the possible resulting "unintended acceleration " is not that much of an issue as we use "chill" mode.

    Ontario - Flo chargers

Had the same experience a couple of times at the Ivy at Barrie Enroute last fall. So gave up. But supposedly Ivy has upgraded their system recently, and so I was going to try again. But now, maybe not. My other issue was that the cables and CCS adapter are so bulky and stiff, especially in...

    Trip from Toronto to S.C.

Yup. In the winter around here I don't even wait for the lower electricity rates after 7pm. Just plug it in (outside) when we arrive around noon and the battery is warm. Especially when a big temperature drop overnight is predicted. That -9C near Pittsburgh caught us off-guard. Guess we were...

    Trip from Toronto to S.C.

Well that was easy with our M3LR. And Hilton Head, S.C. experienced an early spring mid Feb. when we were there. Lovely trip all in all. Used A Better Route Planner ABRP to plan the route and charging stops as Tesla's tended to give me longer drives and charging times. We're in our 70s and...

For those who live in BC, off-peak charging may become a thing

The other day I took off without preheating after a very cold night and was surprised at the effort required to brake. Regenerative braking, one pedal driving, has certainly spoiled me. But after a about a half an hour of driving, the battery was warm enough to charge and regenerative braking...

For those who live in BC, off-peak charging may become a thing

In summer here in Ontario we use off-peak (7pm to 7am) scheduled charging routinely. But in the winter, especially when the nights are much colder than the days, I'll plug in and start charging immediately. Otherwise the energy required to heat up a cold soaked battery can negate some of the...

    SC lineup in Vaughan

Vaughn is a mess on weekends. And Black Friday was really crazy. But then, even the non-Tesla parking spots were hard to find. Not sure what the attraction of that mall is. But have had similar problems with other mall Superchargers as well, like Sherway Gardens. When just passing thru, not...
