I don't think you necessarily need the update but you will get an error code without it. You can force the update yourself though so it isn't an issue, that's what I did.

Guys, I got a 2015 Model S 70D on 2022.8.10.6 (MCU1). I don't see the lock option on the screen. There's no option to turn on walk-away lock or auto-presenting handles. Is this normal or a software glitch? I need to use the keyfob to both unlock and lock the car every time.

This might work, but I believe the original clips were 8mm. You might be able to squeeze these in also, but the actual procedure seems to be to take the door-attached circular part off and use the current clips (the second link you sent)
