Tesla HVAC - When using heat drivers side hot and passenger side cold

Assuming the actuator door is broken, can it be replaced? When I check the EPC by Tesla, there's no actuator door. It was something I was thinking also but I was hopeful if the door was broken Tesla would have informed me when changing it - but with my history with them it's usually bottom of...

Tesla HVAC - When using heat drivers side hot and passenger side cold

No codes in service mode anymore. Used to have the THC_d0021_RCCMActuator code. I had Tesla replace the front passenger temperature actuator and then the code went away but it didn't help fix the issue. Is there another passenger side actuator? I believe that should be the one Tesla replaced...

Tesla HVAC - When using heat drivers side hot and passenger side cold

Hey guys, 2012 Tesla Model S I've been trying to figure this issue out for a while and I'm wondering if anyone experienced anything similar. The A/C works fine (cold on both sides) but when using heat, only the drivers side gets hot but the passengers side blows cold (max A/C like) air. I've...

Replaced PTC from Gen 1 to Gen 3. Now have a white error message.

Go to the software screen, hold the Tesla icon, it’ll ask you for a password - which is service From there you can request an update, request a full update and then just leave the car for a bit until you get a notification on your app or in the car and install it like any other update

Replaced PTC from Gen 1 to Gen 3. Now have a white error message.

I don't think you necessarily need the update but you will get an error code without it. You can force the update yourself though so it isn't an issue, that's what I did.

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Have you tried playing with the settings? This is actually how my issue started. At first, before last winter - I'd have heating in 3 of my 4 vents (all except passenger left) when I had the air directed at face only. I noticed when I changed the positions of the heat to include both face and...

Replaced PTC from Gen 1 to Gen 3. Now have a white error message.

What's the error code? If it's a version mismatch - all you need to do is update the car. Did changing the PTC fix your issues?

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

2012 Model S. Heating blowing only on the Drivers Side and not on the passenger side. Passenger side is cold air as if the A/C is on. Tesla diagnosed it as a faulty PTC heater. I bought the PTC heater elsewhere and replaced it at another shop. The symptoms are the exact same, leading me to...

    PTC cabin heater repair

How are you able to run the thermal tests by yourself? I got a 2012 Model S. I get heating one side (drivers side) and nothing on the passengers side. Drivers side cycles between cold and hot sometimes also. Took it to Tesla to diagnose, they said failing PTC heater. I replaced the PTC heater...

    Access to the heater assembly?

Tesla service was the one to replace my passenger front temperature actuator though - 1 day before false diagnosing my PTC heater. I assume they checked it was working after they changed it.. but with Tesla you never know. They’ve so far agreed not to charge me for a new diagnostic after...
  11. J

    Access to the heater assembly?

Think you were right. Tesla's diagnosis of PTC heater failing seemed to have just been a guess. Of course I buy a new PTC Heater online and have it replaced at a third party shop and the same issue - cold air on all passenger side vents (face/foot/windshield) and hot air on all drivers side...

    Access to the heater assembly?

Thanks, I've done that. The only alert I saw related to the heating I believe was: THC_d0021_RCCMActuator and THC-w0176_MCUCanTmo (but don't think this is related to heat?) I'm unsure if that's related to the PTC Heater? The actuator that I replaced (by Tesla) was the Front Passenger Side...
  13. J

    Access to the heater assembly?

Would this be something inside the heater - or should we check something else? The heater used to work so I don't know if it can be a wiring thing unless you mean one of the wires broke? Is there a passenger side temperature sensor inside the PTC heater? If that is the case, replacing the PTC...
  14. J

    Access to the heater assembly?

My issue is different. The heater works but only on the drivers side. I changed the actuator and the issue persisted and now Tesla says it’s a failing PTC heater. The fuse still works because I’m getting heat, but I’m not 100% sure if a failing PTC can make exactly half of the car hot (drivers...

    Model S HVAC issues

Did you ever find out the issue regarding this? I had a similar issue: Drivers side blowing faint heat and passengers side always cold. I took it to two different shops who both said it was the passenger's side front temperature actuator. I thought that makes sense, and had Tesla replace it...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

Is that just to add pay per use supercharging or unlimited lifetime? If it's just pay per use, that's pretty unreasonable. They open up their supercharger networks for free to non-Tesla's but not to their own customers. If that's for unlimited, they should at least offer a cheaper option for...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

I've never done it - so can't comment on how long it'll last. Had a friend replace one and he's been driving for a year now with no issues. It extends the life of your car for sure, not sure for how long though. I agree with the first point. I disagree with the last - most first party...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

It’s definitely not cheaper to replace than repair everything. I was quoted $7200 for a sunroof retrofit. They refused to even close my sunroof that was stuck open because a Tesla service advisor hit open and then it wouldn’t close - probably because they didn’t know how. Found a mechanic to...

    buying a lemon?

I would agree with the above. Don't do it unless you're able to work on the car yourself. Tesla's can be very expensive to fix and you can easily spend more on it than you can possibly save. Unless you live near a reputable third-party bodyshop that are experts at servicing Tesla at decent...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

I've been to their service centers *a lot* over the years driving the 2012 Model S. It's definitely gotten worse over the years as they've got more sales. They do things that hurt the consumer and pretend they're doing the consumer a favour. Like not being able to talk to a live person to order...

Supercharging for an Early Model S - Can't Tesla do the right thing?

Seems strange because I have a Tesla that originally came with unlimited supercharging changed to pay as you go supercharging and Tesla will not give me unlimited supercharging for any price. So basically the exact opposite as you. Pay as you go supercharging on cars that originally came with...

    Access to the heater assembly?

Does anyone know if the fuse on a 2012 Model S is for heating only or for both heating and A/C? The heating in my '12 Model S does not work (very minimal heat with fans low on drivers side only) but the A/C works. If the fuse is responsible for both, would that mean I am safe to just change the...

Model S - service line item - "Low Voltage Circuit Integrity Check"

Anyone know what the low voltage circuit integrity test is for? My 2012 Model S cabin heat stopped working, it's very faint heat on drivers side vent and all the other vents are basically normal and/or cold. The A/C works fine. Tried to make an appointment with Tesla and they set that as a...

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Guys, I got a 2015 Model S 70D on 2022.8.10.6 (MCU1). I don't see the lock option on the screen. There's no option to turn on walk-away lock or auto-presenting handles. Is this normal or a software glitch? I need to use the keyfob to both unlock and lock the car every time.

Older Gen Model S - door retainer clips

No idea, I’m not buying a new panel. Just paying them to remove my panel, change the clips and reinstall it so it fixes properly basically.
  27. J

Older Gen Model S - door retainer clips

This might work, but I believe the original clips were 8mm. You might be able to squeeze these in also, but the actual procedure seems to be to take the door-attached circular part off and use the current clips (the second link you sent)
  28. J

Older Gen Model S - door retainer clips

It seems you are correct, that's exactly what Tesla told me about removing the piece in the door. Wish I came back to check this sooner but I was calling around all day, haha. Alright, I have found a solution for anybody in the future that reads this. I haven't tested this yet but after calling...

Older Gen Model S - door retainer clips

The issue is the newer clips also seem to be shorter. As you can see on the current clips there's a round part that limits how much of the clip can actually fit into the door panel. I was hoping Tesla is able to find the part themselves, as I'm not 100% sure if the previous posters part is the...

Older Gen Model S - door retainer clips

Yeah, I might have to take that route. The issue is I've opened and closed the door panel so many times now trying to get this to fit that I'm worried about breaking a wire or something at this point. That's why I'm willing to have them replace the door, if they charge me the 10 mins labour...

Older Gen Model S - door retainer clips

Hey guys, Anyone know where to get the door panel retention clips for the older cars? I have a 2012 Signature Model S and went to Tesla to get retention clips because my door handle paddle gear broke. The clips they said are for my vehicle are actually not for my vehicle and trying to force it...

Early Model S Ambient Light Buzzing

Hey, it was a feature available in 2012-2016 Model S's before they took it away (I believe). You can read about it here: https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-s-premium-lighting-package-review/ This is how it looks: It does add a cool effect to the car when driving at night. I just need...

2012-2016 Tesla Model S ambient lighting replacement?

Hey, Has anyone replaced their '12-16 Model S ambient lighting under the window switch in the door panel? One of mine appears to be buzzing and I want to replace it myself. It seems to be plug and play, but if anyone has done it can you confirm that you can just snap it out and replace it? Is...

Buzzing noise from one speaker in liftgate (Model S 2016 MCU2/AP3)

For all you with the buzzing noise that goes away with the screen brightness, does it go away when you have ambient lights off? For ambient lights to work properly you need to turn the car and headlines on after getting in, otherwise it auto shut offs after a bit
  35. J

    Is ambient light buzzing resolved?

Bump. I know this is old but was wondering if anyone knows if this was ever resolved? I noticed buzzing is back (not sure if it was gone before, but do not recall it) after changing my door handle and am wondering if that's a coincidence or there is something that I could have done (I plugged...

Early Model S Ambient Light Buzzing

Hey guys I own a Sig. 2012 Model S and I just replaced the door handle myself and hear the 'buzz' that used to happen when ambient lights were on at less than 100% screen brightness (lights dim with screen brightness). I've never really used ambient lights in a while so do not recall if it was...

    Hv battery replacement

If I was you, I’d tow it out of there and possibly go to one of the third party shops that can replace the HV battery for cheaper or another Tesla Service Centre. I know you probably don’t want the hassle. But from my experience, every time I let inconvenience allow me to do something my gut...

    TPMS Recommendation - Canada

It's a 2012, but it's been retrofitted to the second gen TPMS sensors. The first gen is only 2012-2014 S's (depending on VIN, some 14S's have 2nd Gen). The older gen sensors could not see the individual PSI on each wheel. Your 17X would have second Gen TPMS. I could get the sensors online for...

    TPMS Recommendation - Canada

Any updates on this. Which is the best place to get aftermarket second gen TPMS for a Model S, with install? I can get a set off ebay but it doesn't come pre-programmed. Other issue is I don't have a set of working TPMS to copy to the new sensors, I don't know if that will cause an issue?

WTB: Second Gen TPMS Sensors/WTT For 1st Gen for Model S

Hey, Looking to buy a set (4x) Second Gen TPMS sensors for my 2012 Model S P85. Accidentally bought brand new 1st Gen TPMS sensors (Tesla did not realize previous owner upgraded TPMS system), so also willing to sell those/trade for 2nd Gen if interested. I am located in Toronto, Canada.
  42. J

Tesla 1st Gen TPMS Sensors Issues

Yeah, I will call them back and try to confirm. The last thing I want to do is change it to 2nd Gen to somehow find out it was 1st Gen. This time I'll tell them to actually look at if the previous owner upgraded it. Should have never assumed they would have kept track.

Error codes on 2014 P85 MS, Please help

Other people have had this same message: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/alerts-unable-to-drive-voltage-supply-too-low-vehicle-may-not-restart-power-reduced.197390/ My bet is it might be a failing 12V battery as that's similar to the message other users have been getting when theirs...

Tesla 1st Gen TPMS Sensors Issues

Just to confirm, if I can see Car Status in my car - even if I see "--" on PSI for all wheels, would that make it second generation? I can see Car Status on my car, which should make it second gen. However, previously when I called the service center they said my car had first generation. Maybe...

Tesla 1st Gen TPMS Sensors Issues

My experience with service centers has been horrible. They charged me $175 to just look at the car, per issue. I paid $1000 in diagnostics because I pointed out 5 issues last time. Then, they quote you the full replacement cost and even if you decline, you're charged $1000 in diagnostics. So I...

Tesla 1st Gen TPMS Sensors Issues

Yeah, I don’t get a tire pressure low message. I’m getting a TPMS fault message. I’ve replaced them with confirmed working 1st Gen sensors, they can even scan and show functioning on a TPMS tool. I’ve read first gen systems have to be programmed or reset to the car by Tesla to get rid of the...

Tesla 1st Gen TPMS Sensors Issues

They look like this: https://www.tpmsdirect.com/Tesla_Model_S_TPMS_Sensor_p/t147.htm Bought from a guy online who claims they were pulled from Tesla wheel, never used. All 4 sensors are confirmed to be working. It may be the issue of the 'car only remembers 2 sets of sensors' thing I've been...

Tesla 1st Gen TPMS Sensors Issues

So I went back to the original shop, they can sense all 4 TPMS no problem. It must be a programming issue because it's 2012 (1st gen). I'll book an appointment with Tesla and see from there. Unfortunately they charge at least $175 just to diagnose/install, so I've been trying to avoid that.

Tesla 1st Gen TPMS Sensors Issues

Hey guys, I've been having TPMS issues with my 2012 Tesla Model S. I tried a bunch of aftermarket TPMS and it never worked, so I bought 4 brand new OEM TPMS from someone. I got them installed today, and thought I would have to drive the car a bit to re-learn the TPMS. However, when I went back...
