Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

Well I tried summon yesterday and it ran the front left wheel against a cement curb trying to back out of a parking spot. Now my wheel is all chipped up. Doubt I’ll ever try this again. Not sure if this was supposed to be a “smart summon”. It did involve turning the steering wheel. But it was a...

    Wiring for Wall Connector

Yeah, first one so far. Isn't it odd how the small group of non-NM-B evangelists here seem to know more than all the electricians in the nation? ;) Not disagreeing. 55a is the limit as I read it.

Living in Condo w/ Carport. What charger to install?

I would get the Wall Connector instead. It can be left out in any weather.

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

FSD is much better than AP for basic driving like accelerating and stopping in traffic and lane positioning. I did not know this until I got the 30 day trial. It really is quite a nice improvement.

    FSD now $99 a month

Just subscribed for 99 in case they decide to raise it again. Subscription starts at end of trial. btw, I am really liking the new visualization as well, especially in full screen mode. Very cool to see how much the computer is aware of.

FSD free trial. Very impressed. So better than Autopilot

I just subscribed at 99 dollars. Also can confirm the paid subscription does not start until the 30 day trial ends in 3 weeks, for those who are wondering. I figured I'd get it now before they decide to raise the price back up.

    FSD now $99 a month

I’ve been very impressed with my 30 day trial so far. It really surprised me how much better FSD drives compared to free AP on the basic stuff like starting and stopping in traffic. Also I like the visualization a lot. Such a shock to see the price slashed to 99/mo! Now I may actually keep it.

FSD free trial. Very impressed. So better than Autopilot

Wow! I can’t believe it! What should I wish for next? Now to ask my wife 😁

FSD free trial. Very impressed. So better than Autopilot

I think if they lowered the price to 100/mo I would keep it. Very impressed.

FSD free trial. Very impressed. So better than Autopilot

If this is true then why is FSD performing so much better for me on highways than basic free autopilot was? There is a very noticeable improvement to basic acceleration/deceleration and following distance I am experiencing. Seems more like how a human would drive. The off-highway improvement...

FSD free trial. Very impressed. So better than Autopilot

Thanks for the info. I figured it would likely revert back to the old level of performance for basic autopilot once the trial ended. Too bad. I think it was a very smart move by Tesla to offer this free FSD trial because there are probably a lot of people like myself who never knew how much...

FSD free trial. Very impressed. So better than Autopilot

Just a few days ago I received the 30 day free trial of FSD and frankly I am blown away by the performance. I have never used FSD before and have been driving my 2021 MY using autopilot only for 50k miles. I am very familiar with the behavior of TACC and auto steer and know how it responds...

Any way to add wiper heater to 2021 Model Y?

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I'll just have to live with it as is.

Any way to add wiper heater to 2021 Model Y?

Is there any way to add a heater for the windshield wipers to a 2021 Model Y so they will work when it gets really cold?

    "No Reseller" clause for Cybertruck

There are actually 3 costs Tesla lists and 0.25/mile is just one of them. The third one is likely to be much higher than this and is open ended, "cost to repair the Vehicle to Tesla’s Used Vehicle Cosmetic and Mechanical Standards."

Leak even after plugging tire… replacement tire options

That is really weird that a plug for a screw hole didn't work. Maybe pump it full of fix-a-flat if you are trying to get the last 2/16's out of the tires. Otherwise replace all 4.

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

I understand the basic physics says only the change in velocity matters for textbook objects with no limitations but it would be interesting to see how a real world vehicle with its various frictions, air resistance and motor efficiencies impacts this. My guess is that would will find the higher...

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

If I remember correctly you can read actual current and voltage from some of the apps with the installation of the OBD2 dongle. If you log these quantities you could get a definitive answer as to which maneuvers use the most energy.

No, the tint goes on the inside and is cut around the mirror mount where the cameras are located. The cameras never see it.

Snow tires for 2022 Model Y

The 18" winter tires are a good option due to more selections available. But in my opinion the Model Y does fine with all season tires in any amount of snow I would actually consider driving in due to the effectiveness of the traction control and the option to turn on off road mode to distribute...

5/32 tread depth on 12850 miles

It was called Pro Tire. Not sure if it's a chain. The rep from Continental simply asked my zip code and suggested a shop in my area. I think the only requirement was that they be an authorized Continental dealer. The store had nothing at all to do with it. They had no clue what I was asking for...

5/32 tread depth on 12850 miles

I called continental and explained the situation. They said there was no tread wear warranty on OEM tires, and that cars like teslas are very hard on tires. He offered me 50% off any other set of continentals as a customer loyalty gesture. I had to have them inspected at a local tire center for...

5/32 tread depth on 12850 miles

My OEM Contenentals we at 4/32" at 20k miles. Continental gave me a 50% credit towards a new set. I got the DSW06 and they are wearing better. Much better grip, but efficiency dipped from 270 to 290 wh/mi. I assume because they grip better.

    Post your Tone audio settings

I agree slight bass cut helps clean up the sound overall.
  27. R

    Post your Tone audio settings

Yes, at low volume a big scooped eq like that can work well. I find the sub really doesn't have the resources to handle that much boost at higher volumes.
  28. R

    Post your Tone audio settings

For me, it sounds best mostly flat with +3 on the highest treble. Sometime a little bass cut is needed to avoid muddiness depending on the music. I think it's a great sounding system overall and is not much improved with equalization to my ears.

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

I think everyone agrees with this. In the same way a gasoline car gets better mileage if you don't floor it so much and keep it under 55. Less energy lost to heat and air resistance gives greater efficiency of fuel usage.
  30. R

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

This sounds right to me. I believe that is the sense in which they meant "efficient". I think they should have used the word effective instead. Efficiency tends to imply some degree of optimality or minimization of waste in science circles.
  31. R

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

Pretty sure work done = energy spent regardless of how fast you do it. But the original question wasn't about driving more gently, it was about trading battery temp and cabin temp. We were wondering if selecting chill mode saves energy because something doesn't get as hot. Still wondering.
  32. R

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

I don't know if that assumption is right or wrong. Could go either way. I assume that as the car eventually reaches full operating temperature there is still an excess of heat (produced by battery and motors) even on a winter day with the cabin fully heated. I could be wrong, but that is my...
  33. R

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

The car may be more efficient in chill mode, I just don’t think that quote from tesla says that. I think you may be making the assumption that the battery is maintained at a lower winter temp in chill mode overall, and not just at startup.
  34. R

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

Interesting. I think Tesla is saying that the cabin will heat up faster in chill mode because it is allowing the battery to remain colder. But in what sense is this more efficient?

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

Since you have only owned the car 8 weeks you have yet to experience just how bad battery performance is in cold winter weather. I don't know Wisconsin to well, but I think it gets cold there. Is this right? Here in NJ I would say I lose at least 20% capacity in the winter. Also, takes longer to...

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

I've been using that TeslaFi app for over two years now and I find that battery capacity chart fluctuates a lot. I also was briefly above average, and then way under average, and then eventually back up to average. Not sure what to make of it, but I would say try not to take the numbers too...

Is it madness that wipers can't be controlled by the driver on cruise control or autopilot mode?

Didn't work that way for me. When I was in heavy rain and the wipers were only occasionally taking a swipe of two across the windshield I tried manually setting the speed to a high rate, but this did not stick and reverted back to auto. If autopilot was active the car seemed to require that it...

Is it madness that wipers can't be controlled by the driver on cruise control or autopilot mode?

I seem to have the opposite problem. My wipers don't wipe frequently enough even when it is obviously raining. I never experienced nuisance wiping when the windshield was dry. Anyone else have the no-wipe-when-wet problem?

Level 2 charger overheating in garage

How can the Wall Connector detect a lower voltage on one leg if there is no neutral? Does it use the ground conductor for this test? I guess it could.

Level 2 charger overheating in garage

That’s a mobile charger. Pretty sure the OP is using a wall unit since he mentions 48 amps. It is important to point out these are different devices.

M3P Auto wipers on when in Autopilot normal? [yes]

My Model Y is the greatest car I've ever owned. I am disappointed with the auto wipers, auto high beams, and climate control compared to other cars, yes, but in my experience the Auto Steering and TACC have been really good. Only occasional phantom braking, and just one single phantom collision...

Why only 40 miles per hour on Gen 3 Tesla Wall Charger for MYP?

That's the root of the problem right there. Charge is measured in Coulombs, Charge rate is measured in Amps, power is then this rate times voltage (Watts), and accumulated power (energy) is measured in Joules (or equivalently, kWh). None of these have anything to do with distance or speed. The...
