Quality at home charging, are charge ports really needed to be installed at home?

Check with you local power provider. Some of them have excellent rebates or discounts on EVSEs. That way you can get a brand new one with warranty for much less. I got my ChargePoint for free (after $400 utility provider discount and $299 discount from work).

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

UPDATE: so I went ahead and tried three different GFCI breakers to see if the sensitivity variations make any difference in tripping or even stop tripping. I tried an Eaton, Square D, and Murray (all 50A 2 poles). All of them tripped. The Square D took about 7 seconds before tripping, the others...

All-glass roof shades: Evannex, Heatsheild, or something else?

I dont see a whole lot of fixed glass roof shades for Model S. I have found offerings from Heatshield and Evannex only. Any other options out there? Which one is recommended? This for a 2018 S.

Is there a problem here with neutral and ground

My inspector sent me some photos after the NEMA 14-50 was installed (and passed). I see that the green ground wire and the white neutral wire are both connected to the right bus bar. The GFCI pigtail also connected to that bar. My question is, shouldn't neutral and ground be connected to the...

GFCI Breaker is Code for EV Charging

It sure gives issues, even with third party EVSEs (ChargePoint Home Glex in my case). Here is my thread on it: Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?
  14. J

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

Thanks yes I am going to get another GFCI breaker to try. Don't really want to hardware it. I didn't put the plug in the EVSE , just connected the charging wire that goes to the car. Checked that already, no problems there.

GFCI Breaker is Code for EV Charging

I wonder one thing though, is that in my NEMA 14-50 with GFCI breaker, the Tesla UMC Gen2 never trips, whereas a ChargePoint EVSE trips every time. Why the different behavior? I think the Tesla UMC has a GFCI as well?
  16. J

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

Yes the breaker has GFCI and that what I think possibly the issue is. I dont know what could be the best strategy for me here: swap the breaker with a non-GFCI (and therefore non-compliance with NEC?), figure out a way to disable GFCI in the ChargePoint (does not look like its possible)...
  17. J

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

Yes the ChargePoint does not have any physical switch to regulate current. So it needs to be powered on and then can be changed thorough the app. I changed it to max 40A (breaker current, the app has options for 40A and 50A), and then connected to the car. The breaker tripped again within couple...

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

Didn't quite understand. Where's the dip switch?

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

Haven't tried another breaker. I think this GFCI could be the issue. Found some similar problems over the web. I will wait for the electrician to have a look at it and hopefully determine the cause.
  20. J

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

I actually have tried the 40A setting in the app as well, still tripping.
  21. J

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

Yup checked. Works fine with the UMC.
  22. J

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

Well the breaker says 50A on it and the inspector from the County verified so it should be a 50A breaker. I did change the current intake in the car to 32A but the breaker still trips with the ChargePoint.
  23. J

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

Thanks for the tips. So it actually does not work for 2-3 minutes, more like 2-3 seconds before it trips. The NEMA 14-50 works fine with the Tesla Gen2 UMC, no tripping of the breaker. I have set the ChargePoint app to 40A but it still tripped within couple of seconds.
  24. J

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

Thanks everyone for the valuable input. Contacted the electrician, will see what he says when he comes in. However, while researching, I found that ChargePoint and most other L2 chargers recommend that they be hardwired? If it is plugged in, there could be a GFCI conflict (if breaker has GFCI...

    Home charge tripping breaker: Anyone?

I have a NEMA 14-50 receptacle installed in my garage with a licensed electrician. With that, I have been using the Tesla Gen2 UMC for the last few months without any problems. The car (Model S 75D) charges fine at 32A with the Tesla UMC. I bought a new ChargePoint Home Flex and installed it...

Where to do window tinting in Puget Sound area?

Yes I am planning to go 30% all around. One question: does the ceramic tint have any adverse effect on doing it for the rear window? Read somewhere that it could interfere with the electronics?

Where to do window tinting in Puget Sound area?

Any recommendations for window tinting in Puget Sound area? What percentage are you guys doing for front and rear side windows? I am also considering DIY tinting. Is that a good idea or a pro is best? This is for a Model S by the way,

Tesla Reveals What Cars Tesla Buyers Trade In

I got a great offer from Tesla for my 2014 Acura TSX 6-speed. $14,485. It was higher than Vroom, Carvana, and much higher than Carmax. Immediately accepted it towards a 2018 S75D.

    Model 3 vs S

I just went through the same decision making process and ended up picking a 2018 S75D. Luckily my S came with MCU2 and FSD computer already (along with premium upgrade package, HEPA, subzero package, basically all the bells and whistles). The 3 didn't appeal to me due to its look and only one...

Recommended NEMA 14-50 installer in the Snohomish area?

Anyone have recommendations about licensed electricians/companies that can install a NEMA 14-50 in Seattle (I am in Snohomish county) area? Got one quote for $1,100 for just the outlet install which is only about 3-ft from the panel. This will be used to hook up the UMC for a Model S 75D.

Getting my first Tesla (used): good deal?

Model S looks really smooth, unlike Model 3, which personally looks a bit bland to me. Also, I do not like the absence of a dash. So Model 3 was a no-no, for me at least. Looking forward to some quality time with the machine.

Getting my first Tesla (used): good deal?

Took delivery of the car. Beautiful condition. Happy to see that the car already came with MCU2 (shows Intel atom processor), and AP3 (FSD capability). Now onto installing a 240v outlet in my garage.

Getting my first Tesla (used): good deal?

Checking the VIN Recall search in Tesla's site shows no recalls found for the car. I am wondering if that means that the previous owner already took care of the recall or the car already comes with MCU2.
