    Lug nut socket size

Absolutely not. In fact a 6” or longer extension will result in a more accurate torque. If you one-hand the torque wrench then you are placing a side load on the item under test. This is wrong. With a 6” extension one has to held the head of the torque wrench and the handle resulting in a pure...

    Drive unit replacement worth it?

The most attractive option at the moment appears to be to repurpose my traction battery for PV storage. Have 75+ kWh of capacity. Drive unit dead. Internal short. Have had the vehicle returned to my carport.

    Drive unit replacement worth it?

There is no way I will spend $20k on gasoline the next 10 years. And only pay $20k to have a car I might be able to sell for only $20k. Have a Subaru with 27k miles and F-150 with 10k. If the Tesla goes it will be replaced with a tractor with front end loader.

Oh, sorry. 2013 Model S 85. I should figure out how to add a .signature.

    Drive unit replacement worth it?

My first 500 mile trip required 3 stops of about 30 minutes each. The last time I made that trip was in 2019 and each stop (same Superchargers) took just over an hour each. Have burned gasoline 4 or 5 times since because adding 3 hours to 9 hour day is no fun. Somewhere around 2016 a firmware...

FAQ: Home Tesla charging infrastructure Q&A

They are not “chargers”. The Wall Connector and Mobile Connector are “connectors.” The charger is built in to the vehicle. The EVSE “connector” is a glorified extension cord with as many safety features as practical. Ultimately it does nothing more than connect your EV to the AC power grid.

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

    Did that add PSI display?
  14. N

    Alabama tire center...

You can put air in your tires. If one will not put 42 PSI in the tire (unbelievable that any tire shop doesn’t know 50, 45, and 35 series tires run 42-45 psi) one can always point to the placard on the door post inside drivers door. Tire tech should have looked there himself.
  15. N

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

I was told in 2017 to upgrade my 2013 to be able to display PSI was about $800. I declined so they replaced the dead wheel sensors under warranty at no cost. The mobile tech used an Autel TS-508 to check my sensors. I now own one of these tools.
  16. N

    Alabama tire center...

Have no idea where you are to know whether I can recommend any place. However, if you can’t put air in your own tires we have other problems to discuss. Especially if you can’t show to the tire shop to the placard inside the drivers door listing tire sizes and pressures.

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

I have an Autel TS-508 which has no trouble reading my December 2013 built Model S TPMS sensors. That I know of, TPMS sensors never re-hibernate. They will sleep when not rolling, but wake on rolling or when the 125 kHz “clicker” burst is heard. A TPMS scan tool will issue the 125 kHz burst...

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Over the years Tesla has worked on algorithms to detect poor electrical connections so as not to burn your house down. You have a problem we can not solve. You may have a problem in your home the other Teslas can not detect. Try a WC somewhere else. If that works then call an electrician. If it...
  19. N

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

Go back to your shop and ask them to read your new sensors with their handheld tool. New sensors have to be woken from hibernation, will not do it on their own. A 125 kHz “clicker” can be used, a real TPMS scan tool will automatically send the 125 kHz burst to wake a sensor. Old designs use a...
  20. N

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

The Autel MX sensors have to be coded to the vehicle. If coded to the wrong vehicle I think you can re-code the same sensor to a different model Tesla. I have never re-coded a used Autel MX sensor, only coded new sensors. Most recently to an F-150 where I read the ESNs from the truck via OBD-II...

60kwh to 85kwh is it possible?

My choice of words was poor. Currently my 2013 Supercharges half the rate, twice as long for the same kWh as it did new. What was (3) 30 minute stops is now (3) 60+ minute stops. $100 in gasoline vs 6 extra hours travel time?
  22. N

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

No, a TPMS scan tool one can read each wheel to determine where the failure is. However if all sensors are from the same production lot they will likely be in similar failure state.
  23. N

    $724 for TPMS sensor?

A lot of shops stock clonable/programmable Autel MX or Schrader sensors so as not to have to stock dozens of different or overnight for every customer.
  24. N

60kwh to 85kwh is it possible?

Yeah, mine did. Too slow to make road trips with more than 1 Supercharger stop. Half the speed of new. I now burn gasoline on road trips, thanks to Tesla.

2014 MS 85 Battery Died - need advise

I tend to agree especially if it will restore reasonable Supercharge times. My 2013 takes twice as long as it did initially. I now burn gasoline on 500 mile days. Not worth sitting 3 hours/day at Superchargers, not enough interesting occurring.

They did mine under warranty 5 years or more ago. Said door handle frame was broken or something causing the window not to lift. Asked, “So why didnt you replace the right side too?” Answer: wasn’t broken. To which I replied, “yet.” Years later they fixed again by adjusting the torque limits...

My front windows keep reversing from torque limits. Goes up about 1/3rd then back down. If it gets past that it goes to 2/3rds then reverses back down to 1/3rd. Teslas in Movies & TV

Yeah, “Hollywood Reality.” Firearms have no recoil. After being fired inside a building or vehicle actors keep speaking in a normal voice. “Silencers“ make a .45ACP quieter than an air rifle. Manual transmissions upshift 20+ gears, almost never downshift. First couple episodes of CHiPS the...

    Tesla Supercharger network

It’s a little more than that. The problem is the SAE committee refused to allow AC and DC on the same pins, and wouldn’t agree on a connector in time for Tesla to meet schedule for the 2012 Model S. What I heard was Tesla tried to give the connector we know and love to the committee. The...

    Supercharger - Leeds, AL

Why would more charging bays be added to add CCS to a Supercharger? Do they not put both connectors on one pedestal? Then again I think it wise for Tesla to capture the CCS market as EA, CA, and Blink are “reliable nightmares”.

WD-40 is a solvent not a lubricant no matter what their marketing says. Having said that, sometimes a solvent is the right thing for plastic on plastic squeaking.

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Be ware of eBay and vendors on Amazon which are not Amazon. Any time you find an unusually good price is time to be suspicious. A bogus breaker would be dangerous for not tripping at the rated current. Lowering your charging current isn’t making you safer from a defective breaker.

A couple years ago text-to-speech of incoming text messages was added to the ancient MCU vehicles such as mine. I wish somebody actually tested this stuff before releasing, there is no means of adjusting the audio volume level, it is 100%. The volume scroll wheel on the steering wheel does...

If anyone happens to have the clear lens for the outer right rear brake light, 2013 S, I'm interested. Anybody use Aluminum wire to their NEMA 14-50 outlet?

Could use an HVAC disconnect for AL CU transition. Or for laughs a digital utility meter is about $25 on eBay, $35 for a box to mount. Then you have a utility grade meter to monitor how much power your resale is using.

Well? Was it an S, X, 3, or Y? Am not so sure a “Tesla certified” repair center is essential. Ford dealers are trained in repair of aluminum (F-150 has been aluminum since 2015). The biggest concern is availability of parts.

Electrify America is CHEAPER than Superchargers in TN and GA, and some parts of Florida

Once Upon A Time Tesla had a website where one could look up Supercharger billing rates and determine where per-minute and per-kWh apply. Can not find now. Or am I missing something? Yes, the rate displays in the car. But not mine as I have free lifetime Supercharging.

    Separate Electric Meter?

I have a private meter in my garage on the 50A circuit my Wall Connector is attached. Utility company does not know, is none of their business. Is there for my amusement. New digtital utility meter was $25 on eBay. Box to mount was $35 at Lowes.

You need a 2013 Model S 85 like mine which takes 35 minutes to charge from 35 to 135 miles on a Version 2 120 kW Supercharger. Version 3 is no faster. I‘ll usually take the S for a 250 mile day but the ICE saves 3 hours on 500 mile days.

    Phone App: iPhone/Android app

When the Calendar does not update in my S I have to launch the app on iPhone to get the day’s events into the car. I find setting the location of an event in my iPhone calendar also copies that location to the Tesla navigation system. All I have to do is select from the calendar in the car.
