I've owned Tesla's since 2018, and only seen a pre-repair estimate with an actual charge once, on the 2022 Model 3 I own now. And it wasn't a diagnostic fee, it was a fee to repair the component that broke. They also told me that they would drop the charge if it should be covered under warranty...
I recently had my front passenger seat controls fail (again) and they required me to pre-approve a $137 repair fee. Please note this was not a "diagnostic fee" or "evaluation fee." It stated it was the cost to replace the switch. I asked why I had to approve this if it was under warranty. They...
Now that the weather has cooled down, and I'm using the heater again, it's like my car is backwards. Heat is using very little energy. On a day where outside temps are in the 40's and I set inside temp to 72, it's never getting above 5-10% of energy usage on a 30min drive. This is completely...
The EPA results say the new Model 3 is more efficient than the previous, but that's not my experience. And according to the mobile service buy, his as well.
Actually, the mobile service guy said he thinks the previous gen Model 3 without the heat pump was more efficient in general. Said the heat pump helped the winter problem but made non-winter less efficient. I don't know all the details, but I can say my new Model 3 is far, far worse than my old...
The new energy usage app has been interesting. While I haven't had a very hot day since getting it, I have seen a drastic difference in energy usage between an 80F day and a 90F day. On my typical 12 mile/30 min commute home from work, on an 80F day, my AC usage takes up about 3-5% of total...
I've tried that. I get the standard BS answer from them that "all diagnostics report the vehicle is performing within specs." If you've ever run into issues that aren't detected by diagnostics, it can be terribly frustrating. They believe their diagnostics are infallible and exhaustive. They are...
I had a lengthy call with a rep a couple days ago. Almost 30mins. He agreed something is certainly wrong with the car. But since the diagnostics don’t report any faults, he wasn’t sure how to proceed. So I’m logging data from trips and emailing it into service.
Yeah, I get the whole issue of people complaining about range, who do not understand how EV's work and how there are many factors that can affect it. But Tesla doesn't seem to want to do anything that doesn't have an outright fault. They are overly dependent on their diagnostics, which I know...
Couple other things I forgot. Sometimes when AC is low, but on a hot day, I hear a very high speed whine that does not correlate to AC setting. I’ve never heard this with my old 3 or Y.
I’ve noticed locally on hot days, my max charge rate at super chargers is about half of what I see on the Y...
I recently replaced my 2018 Model 3 with a 2022 Model 3. I also have a 2021 Model Y. The new 3 has consistently had worse efficiency than my old 3, even though it's supposed to be better. I think I'm starting to figure out what's going on.
Recently, I drove from southern California to Vegas...
They wouldn't give me any more information that don't use that seat. And parts will take 2 weeks to get. So that's awesome when my wife has to drive around kids that are basically adults.
I've used Konig chains on my old Model 3 a number of times and they never left a mark. I think it's the difference in a smooth vs matte finish on the wheels.
Just got back from skiing. I used the Konig chains sold on the Tesla website for my Model Y 20" wheels. Do not use the chains sold for Model Y 20" wheels on Model Y 20" wheels. Ouch. It looks like this for the entire circumference of the wheel. Both sides.
First Model 3 is at 260 Wh/mi lifetime. Current is at 278 Wh/mi. I still have the old car and can easily compare. The old one beats the new one, and the new one is supposed to be significantly more efficient. Even my Y easily beats my new 3.
Yeah, I've been down this road before. First 3 had both rear brakes dragging. After MANY attempts to get them to address it, they finally caved and replaced both rear brake cylinders. This time I don't have any of the symptoms other than bad efficiency numbers.
Tue. But the ability to get better than stated range while driving like she does is also important to keep in mind. If she actually drove it efficiently, I bet she'd get 400 miles out of it.
At the same time, my new 3 is in the same exact weather, driving efficiently, and I can't get close to...
My wife’s Y AWD with big fancy 20” wheels has an average efficiency of 269 Wh/mi over almost 10k miles. Includes a lot of high speed driving, heater, AC, poor use of regenerative braking. Basically she doesn’t care about efficiency and does nothing to make it better. She gets slightly better...
Here's what contributed to figuring out last time.
Car randomly, and intermittently pulled to one side or the other.
Occasionally car spelled like burning brakes.
Car sometimes would suddenly brake less hard when braking, when the cylinder "unstuck" itself.
Using IR camera showed inconsistent...
Picked up my new Model 3 about a month ago. I have almost 900 miles on it and the efficiency is disappointing. My old 3 total efficiency is always around 258 - 260 Wh/mi, moving a bit up and down due to weather. My new 3 is at 278 Wh/mi.
Stats is reporting my average driving efficiency around...
I've got a similar problem. Every time I drive to work, my Model 3 and Y both try to take me through a dozen small residential back streets when there is a main road that is straight and zero traffic. The map shows the road, but the nav seems to think it doesn't exist. This road has been here...
Same. I was quite upset back in 2018. That lasted zero days once I got the car. I've probably had more service trips than most due to a mystery brake issue that was finally fixed. Service has been fine for me.
My EDD for the last week has had the first date move every day, but the last date stay the same.
8/2-8/16
8/3-8/16
8/4-8/16
...
All the way to 8/6-8/16 yesterday. Was actually starting to expect a VIN because I hit that "magic" 10 day window. But then EDD changed to 8/7-8/23 today. So...
Pretty sure that wasn’t the AC causing those efficiency numbers. Speed? I just drove to Vegas and back, hit 117F, with AC on max and averaged around 280wh/mi. In a M3, but a MY shouldn’t be double. You had something else going on.
I work right down the street from a Tesla SC. I walk buy dozes of Model Y's every day. White interior looks great with all colors. Super modern aesthetic.
Also, my EDD got moved up a few days to Aug 1 - Aug 17. Even more convinced it will be ready when I'm out of town on vacation.
I've been stuck on Aug 3 - Aug 23 for close to a week now. Of course, I'll be on vacation Aug 6-15, so I'm sure I'll get the text when I'm unable to pick up.
Even though it shows the side streets as being there next to my house, it always gets confused when I try to drive on them. Always wants to send me around the other way thinking I'm not on a real road.
I've already told them I'm financing through a 3rd party and they have the documents updated. It's just when to get approved. The approval is good for 54 days.
Ha! I'm not even sure they know who their manager is that day.
Tesla is a different kind of car company. Nothing about what you know or expect is the same. They do things their own way. A lot of time it doesn't make sense or just pisses you off. Again, not saying it's ok. Just saying there...
I'm not condoning it. But I've certainly accepted it. And I also knew to expect it with this order. Being upset isn't going to solve anything. Complaining to Tesla isn't going to solve anything. They are more than aware of how this process pisses people off and seem to be fine with it. They are...
