Non lumbar switches still have the microswitches for a lumbar control

If for some reason you need to replace the power seat switch assembly for a seat with lumbar installed, you can use any switch for a model 3/y even if it has the blank plate. They all have the microswitches to control lumbar, just move the button from your old assembly to your new one.

Some notes on retrofitting Homelink to a 2023 Model 3 (likely for any 2021+ with heat pump)

All you need is the Homelink module, but try to find one on ebay that includes the plastic bracket and e-torx bolt. If you don't have the bolt any M6x1.0 by 25mm bolt will do. 1. Remove shroud covering the washer fluid and brake reservoir, just lift up around edges. Remove trim around latch...

Model Y has a aluminum traction arm on the rear suspension (3 and old Y has stamped and folded steel)

Looks like enough Ys are dismantled that you can get these pretty cheaply on ebay now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185789134912 Should be dimensionally identical between 3 and Y, I assume the change is for strength and corrosion resistance.

Center tweeter hole now filled in (no retrofit possible)

Sadly, as I was taking the speaker grille off on my 1/2023 M3P build, the previous hole for cars with the deleted tweeter is now filled in, making a retrofit much harder.

VW Sportwagen cargo handle for aftermarket retractable shade

Coming from Audis, I was always a bit annoyed that the handle on my $80 retractable cargo cover didn't have a panel to block the handle to fully conceal what is under it. To be honest, it's pretty much impossible to see through the handle but I wanted something a little more premium. Turns out...

    Scanned upper steering column trim

This scan isn’t clean enough to duplicate the trim without some extra work but I am using it for geometry to design mounts that can go on the steering column (in this case, an Android instrument cluster/dock). Sharing in the hopes it’s useful to someone. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5100692

Something my wife and I hacked together this week- an Android app that acts as an instrument cluster

We picked up JWardell's CANServer and Microdisplay and installed it last week in our Y. It was very cool to have the tiny display but what was more impressive was the CANServer itself, which emits CAN signals over UDP. The Model 3 has a exhaustively documented list of signals that could power...

Plasti-dip vintage gold on Geminis w/center caps

Where I live, I could rob a bank in our car and just blend into traffic, so I wanted the car to be easier to spot in parking lots and the like, and I actually find the Gemini to be the most attractive wheel as it's not a chiral design that looks like it's spinning backwards on one side of the...

Traction arm on my Model Y is forged aluminum

On the rear of my Y I have a forged aluminum traction arm, and my friend's Dec 2020 build has the folded and welded arm. Anyone know when this change happened? It's a much stronger and more expensive part than before.

Bought a used key fob, passive entry doesn't work

So, caveat emptor and all that, but I bought a Model Y key fob from another Tesla owner, and when I pair it it shows up as a key and not a 'key fob'. Buttons work, I can tap the NFC points to unlock and start the car, but passive entry does not. The FCC ID and all the labels appear identical to...

Do all Model Ys have aero shrouds on the rear suspension?

On my rear lower control arms (the biggest piece of the rear suspension that the springs perch on, there are plastic covers. I haven't seen these on any of the teardowns so wondering if this is a post 2020 addition?

FYI- you can add passenger lumbar

Figured this out on my Y and procedure should be the same on the 3 if anyone is interested: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/successful-retrofit-of-passenger-lumbar-on-2021-model-y.242227/

Successful retrofit of passenger lumbar on 2021 Model Y

Hi all, I wanted to jot down quickly some notes on my successful passenger lumbar retrofit. I will edit with more details after I get some sleep. All in all, it took about an hour for me to figure out and take things apart and put them back together. Decontented Model Ys have a the lumbar...

Model 3 and Y seats are identical, right?

I don’t have passenger lumbar, it doesn’t bother me at the moment, but given that there are plenty of Model 3 passenger seats on eBay from wrecked cars with intact airbags, these would just be plug and play, right? Current price for them is about $700.

Tomorrow is the first day of my delivery window, what should I look out for?

Dumb questions to follow, but maybe others have the same ones. I ordered online, so I have no relationship with an SA. I've just been relying on the tesla.com website for updates. What I want to know is what to expect when delivery is imminent? Will I get an email or a phone call from Tesla...
