The F-150 Lightning Is not what I expected - Anyone else feel the same?

BMW iX Reviewers have said the best audio system in any production vehicle are the Cybertruck and the 30 speaker B&W on the iX.

    2023 Cadillac LYRIQ

My Lyriq is built (ordered March 2022!) and the incentives/rebates are decent - $7500 Ultium Promise, $5000 for model year transition, $1K Costco. I suspect I will pass. It's both too big and too small if that makes any sense. I will probably test drive it once more before declining it.

Thoughts on the i4 M50 from a former M3P owner

Highland being as quiet as i4 is impressive. As I've mentioned elsewhere the i4 was probably the quietest EV I've owned or test drove.... until... If you want scarily quiet... the Q8 e-tron is a step above the i4/iX. It's a coffin. Very impressed.

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Have you tried to lease today? MF rates are insane. Nearly 9% APR. A $55K 36/10K car leases around $1K/month. Back when we had zero-interest rates and the money printing machine was running full steam... you could lease cars for almost nothing. Model S is worse IMO. You lose $15-20K the second...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

It depends. Leasehckr folks consider Toyotas - buy-only candidates. Expensive luxury cars? Lease them. Never buy. Depreciation is brutal on luxury cars (like EVs).
  6. V

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

In general owning an EV is stupid. They are the worst depreciating type of vehicles - traditionally losing 50% value in 3 years. Some as high as 60% loss in 3 years. These days they lose about 30% in the first year. But I do think modern EVs like the Model 3 RWD will last 10+ years and honestly...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Huh? That's the Model S. My friend owned one in June 2022 and I wanted one too but he saw how MMR/auction prices were $20K was under new prices and sold his a few months later and told me to wait for prices to drop and to nobody's surprise the S had $20-30K price cuts...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Correct. They do suck but doesn't mean other carmakers actually have great adaptive suspension. My Rivian R1S with air suspension is a crappy as a Model X or S. BMW, Audi, Porsche do adaptive suspension correctly This loophole is great if you want to lease and not own the Tesla. Until Tesla...

Why choose Model 3 over Model Y if you can have more trunk space?

I've always said that a 3 with a liftback would be ideal. See Polestar 2 or i4. The Ys I've owned - were appliances. Quick but not fun to drive. I preferred the much lighter Model 3 RWD and would be sad if Tesla discontinued it and pushed for more fat porkers.
  10. V

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

The new M3P needs adaptive suspension like Ms and AMGs now. Folks looking at AMGs have a certain income level and often don't quality for the tax credit (cough). A new i4 M50 with the $7500 lease incentive would be a great value compared to a refreshed Model 3 Performance at $65K+

Thoughts on the i4 M50 from a former M3P owner

I disable regen almost completely for track and autoX as I am fighting regen + acceleration in corners like you said. It's much easier to do in an i4 or Ioniq 5 or EV6 than a Tesla where the regen strength is hidden and you need to buy a third party system (SEXY buttons). A little regen just...

Thoughts on the i4 M50 from a former M3P owner

Loved my i4 e40 but the lack of passenger and cargo space basically forced my hand as I was NEVER driving it in the last 3 months except going to track days or autoX. I traded it for a 23 Sequoia TRD Pro (worst mistake ever) then moved on to a R1S.... but briefly flirted going back to an i4 (M50...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

The current Model 3 is an econobox. Folks who don’t think so have never driven or owned a modern Audi or BMW. The i4 I owned was vastly quieter and with rear air suspension it wasn’t like driving a skateboard (like the Model 3). Sit in an Audi Q8 e-tron. It’s coffin silent. I think too many...

Prediction: Model X price will be reduced to $78K in January 2024

Has WFT been accurate for months now… if not wrong for 6+ months? I see inventory cars on Tesla’s site that’s not on WFT. Also, it’s well known that one car on Tesla’s site doesn’t mean there’s only one car. There could be 10-20 of the same config but Tesla only shows one. It’s how their website...

    Launch is Imminent

When the CT launches it might be a good time to buy a used S/3/X/Y as many current Tesla owners seem to hint they will sell/trade in their current Tesla for it. I'd be curious on how large the EV truck market truly is with Rivian R1T and Lightning sales numbers basically plateauing and supply...

Tesla X Plaid sad owner advice

Sure if you hate your life and want sh*t NVH. Luxury cars should be silent, ride on clouds, and have top-end infotainment + audio systems. The iX M60 with the Bowers & Wilkins audio system with air suspension is a glorious ride. Also close to Model X acceleration too.
  18. V

Tesla X Plaid sad owner advice

The iXes lease well. BMW and dealers are discounting them $25K... $9.9K+ lease incentive and dealers are taking 10% off usually. You can get lease payments in the low 900s per month. The Model X air suspension is just terrible. Barely any better than the Model Y. It's a $70-80K vehicle max. The...

Prediction: Model X price will be reduced to $78K in January 2024

if you are taking Captain’ chairs… even the EV9 only has them on the upper trims like the Telluride. Can’t buy a base model with them. I do wish the R1S had the option but I personally don’t want them. I use my SUVs to haul large RC planes around and Captain’s chairs suck due to the gap. They...

Prediction: Model X price will be reduced to $78K in January 2024

I'm torn. I like it. The interior size is just a tad smaller than the Telluride and the ground clearance is poor (it's more minivan) and the 2nd/3rd mechanized folding system is problematic. With that said... it should ride nice, be very quiet on the highway, and charge fast. The interior is...

Some new data from research on Tesla model 3 cells

You can set the charge limit to something lower than 100% and reduce charging speeds. Most PHEVs in the US max out around 7.4 kW AC/L2 and many are much lower than that. PHEVs like the RAV4 Prime have a large buffer (14.5 kWh usable out of 18.1 kWh gross). I see 20% buffers whereas EVs usually...

Prediction: Model X price will be reduced to $78K in January 2024

I sat in a EV9 this past weekend and dealers told me Oct/Nov in the US. You can get a 7-seater Rivian R1S.
  23. V

Some new data from research on Tesla model 3 cells

Correct. I owned a 3 RWD briefly and folks here were telling other owners to charging to 100% always which to me is bad advice. Li-iron batteries have a different voltage curve and need to be charged to 100% for calibration BUT that doesn't mean owners should charge to 100% SoC and keep it...
  24. V

Prediction: Model X price will be reduced to $78K in January 2024

The Model Y is perfectly priced. It was not worth the $67K last year. It's a mid-$40s SUV and even less with the buckets of government incentives thrown at EVs around the world. Same with the Model X. It is an $80K vehicle... no more. It lacks the higher-end luxury elements other SUVs have as I...
  25. V

Prediction: Model X price will be reduced to $78K in January 2024

I don't see this. There is simply too much competition. Before these price cuts, the BMW iX was a better deal and BMW is throwing $20-30K of incentives at them on top of that. And the sales are surging for it. https://insideevs.com/news/675738/us-bmw-bev-sales-2023q2/ Now you have the R1S that...

Some new data from research on Tesla model 3 cells

50% SoC is basically storage voltage for lithium batteries. The whole charge to 100% always with LFP is bad advice IMO. LFP batteries have more FCE than NMC/NCA cells for certain but 50% SoC is the sweet spot.
  27. V

Some new data from research on Tesla model 3 cells

Lithium battery research has been pretty consistent. The heat generated from DC charging 80-10% degrades batteries so almost all EVs throttle kW rates to prevent heat. Discharging at high C at low SoC is the same problem... that generates heat and degrades the batteries. Charging to 100% and...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

In the end... incentive or MSRP price cut is about the same result. Barely used EQSes are significantly discounted today just like barely used Model Ses were discounted in mid/late 2022 when used 3/Ys were more than MSRP. Mercedes is still discounting because demand is weak for their overpriced...
  29. V

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Don’t buy a Mercedes or Audi then…. 22 EQS owners must be passed because MB offered up to $30K in incentives earlier this year and Audi did the same with the e-tron GT. Tesla cuts MSRP but carmakers offer insane incentives to move metal. Tesla was an aberration in the last few years. EVs...

Prediction: Model X price will be reduced to $78K in January 2024

Yeah the policy of moving cars between locations stopped around early 2022 (or very late 2021). I've found that policy weird but Tesla is ran by robot and rules are never bent. Back then if you had an (10 month old) order at location X and location Y had the exact config... they wouldn't even...

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

Seriously? Almost new 2023s are $80K with MSRP of $106K. 22s are in the sub-$70K range. The joke on Leasehckrs is the second you drive off the lot... your entire 3-yr lease payment is gone on the GT lol. The same applies to EQS which had $30-40K discounts. Those who bought at full price in 2022...

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

Polestar 2, Audi e-tron GT, Mercedes EQS are instantly depreciate 30-40% the second you drive off the lot. It’s why there are significant incentives to move them. Well… P2 not really… just buy used IMO.

Model S SR reintroduction / would you have waited?

Sign me up for a demo S SR with $7000 off at the end of the quarter lol. I’ve seen demo S LRs discounted $11K before. I don’t worry about range much with a Tesla since Superchargers are everywhere. I do wish it was lighter rather than supposed software locked battery. Heavy EVs aren’t as fun as...

Tesla really needs to step up their SUV game (BMW iX impressions)

Too much supply. YoY registration growth in the US was 68% but EV supply vastly increased and dealerships and carmakers are offering incentives.... much like how Tesla is discounting cars in the inventory page. If you want to see horrible depreciation... go look at Polestar 2s. A rental...

Tesla really needs to step up their SUV game (BMW iX impressions)

This. Even in the craze of 2022 when 3/Ys were selling for over MSRP... Model S and Xs were depreciating fast and lost about $20K once you drove off the lot (wait times were minimal in the second half of 2022). I was about to pull the trigger on a few barely used 22 S LRs at $75K-80K in late...

Tesla really needs to step up their SUV game (BMW iX impressions)

Both are $20-30K overpriced (well iX is $30-40K overpriced and Model X is $20K overpriced). The iX M60 can achieve low 3s in 0-60 so I don't need more performance. It depends on the price a - Model X without BMW iX ride quality would be ideal at $80K. BMW iX M60 at $100K is the best value but in...

Tesla really needs to step up their SUV game (BMW iX impressions)

My biggest complaint about the Model X is the rough ride even with air suspension. The iX M60 with air is vastly smoother. I like a lot things about the Model X - size, roominess, audio system, acceleration. The ride quality is just poor.

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

Screw Conserve mode. Never switched to it once. Took my R1S last week to Daytona and zipped around at 108 (traffic prevented any faster). 7000 lb beast hauls butt.
  42. V

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

This or probably more. I am surprised on how inefficient my Rivian R1S is. Sub 2.0 mi/kWh with 22" wheels in All-Purpose mode where I drive 80% of the time at 65-70mph. The 135 kWh pack is too small. If a Cybertruck ships with the a 200 kWh pack, it would cost $130K at least. 150 kWh pack...

Is a new, "previously repaired" Model Y worth it for a steep discount

If you see a low mileage demo unit that was built 6+ months ago… good chance it is a repaired car. Nothing wrong with them and you can find out the exact service history. My friend bought a new Model S back in 2022 with a $8K discount which was huge at the time. I was offered an S with a HV...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Yeah Ford underestimated demand badly. They only produced 91K in 2022 but could have sold twice that easily (which is RAV4 like numbers). They shipped 15K overseas/Canada. (had URL link problem as forum was rejecting the funky link) On the flipside - Ford, Hyundai, Kia overestimated demand...

Ford Mustang Mach E Needs a Rethink

First Tesla has to build it :) I’m not buying a car without a single review and an unknown price tag. Definitely appeals to me though.
  47. V

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Yes, like I’ve said in other threads if Tesla can get to Ford Maverick hybrid ($30K) pricing they will sell millions. At $80K they will sell Model S/X like numbers.
  48. V

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

You are imagining things like the mainstream news media imagines Tesla bursting into flames when it drives through 1 feet of water. What you said has happened but extremely rarely. I’ve ordered Mach-Es and Broncos at dealers and have gotten exactly what I wanted at the price stated. You read...

Ford Mustang Mach E Needs a Rethink

You are nitpicking now… every EV has its strengths and weaknesses. The Model Y doesn’t have a HUD, no 360 cameras, no blindspot warnings on the mirror, no USS, no hands free driver assist (BlueCruise is better than stock autopilot and I’d say HDA2 is better than AP also), no adjustable regen, no...

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

Rivian is in a weird spot. Anybody can buy a R1T truck from the inventory as they have hundreds available. Like I said in a different thread, EV truck demand is finite. Anybody serious about towing a boat or horses is buying an ICE truck or a Sequoia. R1S demand is much greater… 70% of Rivian...
