I saw that. I understand that it's possible that a fifth wheel could be designed to work with the Cybertruck's design and still have adequate clearance to the bed in turns and on uneven ground.
When the design is finalized and if an adequate selection of such fifth wheels exist at the time, I...
There are plenty of F-150s towing smaller fifth wheels, like the one I have. Towed another with a Ram 1500 before that. Lots of people don't want to live with an HD truck 100% of the time when they're only towing a camper 5% of the time.
Since the Cybertruck appears to be out of the question...
It comes out of the Green Ontario Fund. That doesn’t mean it’s free money. It could be used to improve public transportation, retrofit homes for energy efficiency, buy land to establish parks, or capture landfill gas. There are a million uses for that money that are better than for us to buy...
The i8 is not on the list.
Sorry, but there's no reason a person buying a $75,000 vehicle needs a taxpayer incentive. For people interested in reducing emissions, there are many options available now that have useful range and are affordable.
Volt
Bolt
Leaf
Pacifica PHEV
Clarity
e-Golf

I don't think it is. Especially since they're showing 100,000 units in 2018, before China's requirements come into effect.
Is compliance encouraging them? Sure. But they have a history of making investments into producing vehicles that are too good for compliance cars.
Seems odd that GM would develop 20 new vehicles just to meet China's regulatory mandates, if they could meet the requirement with one or two models of small, urban runabout.
Are other manufacturers also doing this?
GM CEO Mary Barra hints at Bolt EV-based crossover SUV, details future electric vehicles
A link to Mary Barra's presentation:

It’s a 7-passenger vehicle with 33 miles of electric range for $42k.
The other contenders were the Leaf and Ioniq, neither of which hold seven people plus luggage.
It's a complete redesign. They have reused some items like the Pentastar V6 (retuned with Atkinson cycle) and some corporate switchgear, but it's a new platform for the minivans, not related to the previous generation.
The Compact US Wide platform was adapted from a Fiat design, which obviously...
This is just a provocative headline, in the tradition of headlines since the advent of print journalism. It's not "fake news." Let's not use that term the way that Trump does to mean "news I don't like" or "news that makes me uncomfortable."
“I’m still considering the Bolt. It had a lot of things nicer about it than the Tesla. But I’m concerned about how it would work on our favored road trips. So far, Tesla’s the only game in town for that.”
He didn't think it would work on his favored road trips. Quite rational. Similarly, I look...
In DOE/INL testing, 2013 Volts lost 6.5% of rated capacity after 100000 miles. Results were very consistent between the 4 test vehicles.
2013 Chevrolet Volt | Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity (see Battery Pack Laboratory Testing Results)
The Volt isn't a perfect analogue for the Bolt, but the...
Let me bring you up to date. Here's the latest:
The XTS is rated above average by Consumer Reports. Buick is the #3 most reliable automaker. Chevrolet is average. Cadillac is below average.
Tesla is below Cadillac.
He said "GM's announced Bolt production for the first year and possibly the first few years is only 30K a year." There has been no such announcement. Lots of people have said that's the production target, but they can't "announce" anything unless they speak for GM.
LG's capacity falls into the...
To clarify, GM has never announced any sort of production target or limit for the Bolt. What we have is leaks from suppliers and speculation. LG expects them to sell more than 30,000.
I think 30,000 is a reasonable target for the first year of production, but GM is likely capable of...
This makes sense from a system-wide point of view. But as a system user, I only care about whether an autonomous vehicle is safer than driving myself.
I suppose the ideal situation is that I get to drive for myself, while everyone else has to ride around in their autonomous vehicle. :)
I think for this to be more meaningful, you should include Luxury Crossovers: Q3, Q5, GLA, GLC, GLE, X1, X3, X5...
I think you're just documenting one side of a larger market shift away from cars and toward crossovers.
They don't want to be making battery cells, but batteries I think could go either way. They've been assembling Volt, Spark EV and hybrid batteries at Brownstown, MI for years now. I think GM will make the decision on a case-by-case basis how much it builds internally.
In this case they had LG...
Forum posts are not necessarily the best medium for covering all issues associated with refueling. Being a Volt owner, I agree with the advantages of home refueling, for those who can plug in at home.
But I think on average, refueling time, range and cost remain major disadvantages from the...
I think it's more likely that the website is wrong, than GM will come out with the CHAdeMO adapter.
But it also has lower range, longer refueling time, and higher cost.
These issues will be solved in time. But for the time being let's not pretend that EVs don't have disadvantages as well.
Not accounting for dealer discounts and GM incentives, the Ontario starting price works out to $37,327 including rebates ($12839) and HST. This is the same as a gas car with MRSP of $33,033 including freight ($37,327/1.13).
In the comments, they claim they're working on a story with more detail about franchise agreements.
But Ford and GM, to name two examples I know, have been performing wireless updates for some time now.
If there is physical warranty work required, that needs to be done by dealers. But I find...
I'm not sure. Here's one example of a refreshed 60 (75) at a Supercharger, which gains 103 miles in 30 minutes.
Refresh Model S60D SC data | Tesla Motors
I had understood the classic 60 to charge at up to 120 miles/30 minutes. I think "your charging rate may vary" applies here.
I know. What GM says doesn't contradict that. They may have started with Gamma 2, but at some point they ending up throwing out that idea and going with a completely new design keeping only the "G2" in the name. In the end there are no parts in common (other than switches in the cabin, etc...
The full story appears to be that they started with Gamma 2, but ended up changing everything anyway. So the Bolt is on a new platform with a designation that starts "G2," but shares nothing with other Gamma 2 cars.
UPDATE: After this article published, GM's Kevin Kelly gave us the following...
I don't think Tesla will raise the base price of the Model 3. I think it will be available at some point for $35,000 plus destination. But option pricing could be set anywhere.
By then there will be the 2018 or 2019 Bolt with whatever specs and prices those vehicles have.
I agree active safety features should be standard on the Bolt. Safety should not be a profit centre.
But comparing Bolt to Model 3 on price is like comparing them on range. The Bolt has published prices, the Model 3 has targets.
The Canadian price at $44395 incl. destination is lower than I expected. $37495 USD is $49500 CAD.
Depending on conversion rate at the time, the Bolt may be cheaper than the Model 3 in Canada, even at full MSRP. Conversion of $36,200 USD ($35,000 plus $1200 destination) is $47,800 CAD.
2017...
If the PlugShare station description says 50 kW, that's what I assume. Any station, Superchargers included, might be throttled for any number of reasons.
I haven't come across anyone claiming that they were being limited to a nominal 25 or 37.5 kW. Maybe someone else has.
Typically, no. I...
I thought the emblematic nature of my statement was obvious. Lesson learned. Literally, the failure of the Bolt does not mean the failure of the Model 3's mission, as other vehicles may fill the void.
