HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

I forgot to mention, I asked the employee his take / why the battery health test failed 4 times. His response: Service mode is for service centers only, I don't know if you followed the testing procedure correctly. 🤦‍♂️

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Results from service appointment. Summary: Tesla took no action during the appointment, told me the battery is fine and tried to explain that basically the range indicator isn't reliable. I went there, talked to someone for 10 mins and then I left with the car. Car was never seen by Tesla. The...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Found this response in another thread from @wk057 who has a business working on / repurposing Tesla car batteries. Source: Has your car shut down before it hits zero? Also credit to @Rocky_H for linking to various threads related to this issue which is where I found this post.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Haven't done this yet and wasn't aware of this until now. Will try this out in the next week or so, thank you.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Great video thanks. I got some notices about shutdown before but it was much more sudden than in the video. In the most recent case (dying with 7 miles left) I don't think I got the "Unable to Drive" earlyish warning, I think it went straight to red "Vehicle Shutting Down - Please Pull Over...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Added the info about the battery health test failing to tomorrow's service appointment and got this response

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

After the test completes it should show a result such as Battery Health: 85%. For my car it shows Battery Health: --%.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Initiated a 4th battery health test last night, and it failed again for the 4th time. This time I caught it before it charged to 100%. Service appointment tomorrow.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Yes, plugged into a Tesla wall charger with a 50 amp breaker so it's at the max kw possible.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Just finished the 3rd battery health test this morning and still no result! I guess I'll just try again but I'm losing hope. I want to get this test done before my March 8th service appointment.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Thanks for the data point. I probably should have mentioned that in the first say 3 months of having the car when it also happened to be warmer I did take the battery down to roughly 2, 1, 0, and -2 (not my intention). The car ran fine and did not force me to go at very slow speed (30 mph or...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Started the battery health test last night at 16% SOC, this morning I see the test completed but I got no result. Battery Health --%. Will reattempt soon.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

    1. I'm currently running BMS calibration, currently at 52%, haven't charged in a few days. 2. Once I get down to a low SOC say 20% or so I will run a battery health test from the service menu. 3. I have a service appointment set for March 8.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Interesting, thanks for pointing this out. I'm going to reserve judgment as this seems to be heavily debated. It's worthwhile to note that Tesla's manual is consistent with what you said about the LV battery getting damaged if the HV battery goes to 0%. It's also noteworthy that Tesla does not...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Thank you. Yes, I drive a lot but it's not every day, I might go for up to 3 days without driving a long distance, it's very variable. Since reading the advice on this thread I'm letting the car sit at lower SOCs without being plugged in, currently at 62%. Will be doing the degradation test at...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Thanks, was planning on doing this. Just waiting to get the battery down to 20% or so from driving so the test won't take as long.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

I was already aware that bringing the battery to a very low SOC is not good for the battery health. That's not the issue or my question. My question is if others have had the same experience of the car dying when it shows 4+ or 7+ miles of range left. I want to get a sense for if there is a...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Correction: The most recent time the car died was on 2/20 not 12/20, I can't edit my post. Also I was able to find a 110V outlet and charger from 7 miles to 9 miles then drive to the Supercharger on the recent instance. If anyone is curious I went into the service menu and snapped this pic...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

I do think the colder temps played a roll, that has been a common denominator in both cases where the car died. My current solution is to charge longer at superchargers when trying to make it home after a long drive and assume 10 miles left is effectively 0 miles left.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

I'm very aware that the displayed range is an estimate however I feel that reasoning is most applicable when the battery is at a say high or medium SOC and one is trying to forecast how far they can go. For example When I 100% charge the displayed range shows 279 miles left. I'm keenly aware...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

At home Sentry mode is always off. Thank you for the troubleshooting though.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

No strain, in the first instance I was on the freeway which was flat, going about 65 to 70 mph in autopilot. A couple minutes before the car died, the max speed I could go was around 33 mph. At the very end I went on the inclined off ramp for maybe 50 feet and the car died. Even if it was flat...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

On the most recent time it died with 7 miles left the battery showed 2% left. So if the 1% margin of error you stated is true, I'm still within that.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Ryzen with Li-on LV Battery. When the car died with 4 miles left, the LV battery completely died after 50 minutes leaving my car blacked out on the side of the road. Thank you very much for the troubleshooting tip, this is the most helpful response in this thread. I will do that.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

I've had 2 instances recently where the car died (forced to a stop) even though the battery showed a few miles of range left (7 miles and 4 miles). 2022 Model Y Performance, 38,000 miles. Current max range: 279mi, 6.4% degradation. Purchased new March 2022. Battery is usually set to charge to...

Autosteer Changes Lane Mid Intersection - Does FSD Beta Fix This?

I own a 2022 MY with FSD however I'm not enrolled in the FSD beta. I've noticed that for at least 3 city street intersections autopilot / autosteer will change lanes mid-intersection. It has only happened on curved intersections. Here is a video from someone else with the same problem: For 1...

Scenarios for being Kicked out of FSD Beta

Thank you for the helpful responses. With respect to my first question: The answer is yes they do still count as strikes, unfortunately. I got the answer from a different thread: FSD impending 5th strike Here is the excerpt:

Scenarios for being Kicked out of FSD Beta

For drivers who have been given access to FSD Beta, I’m aware that after 5 forced Autopilot disengagements they would be kicked out of FSD Beta. It’s just unclear to me in which scenarios the driver is being evaluated. If the FSD Beta toggle is turned off (shown here), do forced autopilot...
