Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

This thread along with a few others are independent of any tesla models. Can the mods take it out and put it under a common head - something like "Tesla - All Models"...? Just a suggestion :)

    Canada Waiting Room

How much they increased price of MYLR last day in Canada? I believe it was $3000 increase in the US. Any info?

    Tesla UMC wire guage

The Tesla UMC cable size seems much smaller compared to a standard 6/3 wire. If its 6 AWG then either they may be using a special insulation jacket to be more flexible and to reduce size. I tend to believe its the 8 AWG size...any thoughts?

Do we need a 42.cu.in gang box for the Bryant 6-50 Receptacle to be used with a 8/2 Romex?

    32A charging Vs reduced current

I have the LR Model Y and has the 6-50 charging outlet on a 8/2 copper wire, 6 ft from the panel with 40A breaker. My driving is approx 100 km on a daily basis. This being the case, which charging option is better for the 100km top-up for a healthier battery or for any other: Daily charging at...

    8-3 Copper Vs 6-3 Aluminum

I’m now going with the 8-3 copper and ordered the Bryant 650R as I have the 6-50 adapter. Will cap the neutral wire. I don’t think in Canada, we need GFCI breakers if installed indoors. Anyways, will check.

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

Thanks..I have now decided with 6-50 and will later get the 14-50 for commute or a 14-50 to 6-50 adapter if required :) Ordered the Bryant 6-50R and the Leviton wallplate with 2.4" hole. My electrician offered to install for $150 since all materials I'm purchasing and for a 2 ft install from panel.

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

Thanks for confirming. 14-50 outlets would be more widely available to use at a friend's or elsewhere compared to 6-50; hence make sense to have the 14-50 adapter to use. Have seen electricians struggling to run 6-3 wires on conduits on many videos. We can still mark the outlet as EV charging...

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

Just for my information, since Tesla UMC doesn't need a neutral wire, can we just use a 6/2 or 8/2 wire with ground wire for the 14-50 adapter outlet? I know 6-50 adapter is exactly meant for it; but just curious to know about 14-50 and skipping the neutral wire to increase flexibility in...

    8-3 Copper Vs 6-3 Aluminum

I'm planning for the Tesla 14-50 outlet install very close to my panel. My panel is 100A and doesn't plan to upgrade anytime soon and hence ruling out a Tesla wall charger in the near future. I understand that 6-3 Copper is ideal, but have a spare 8-3 Copper wire and 6-3 Aluminum wire at my...

14-50 outlet surface mount vs inside

Thanks..the panel is recessed - inside the wall. So, I guess I will go with inside wall install which I believe would be a little bit cheaper with no conduits and its accessories required; plus will look neat :)

14-50 outlet surface mount vs inside

Im looking to install a 14-50 outlet for my Tesla for UMC charging. Is installing the outlet by surface mount the preferred option or is it fine taking wires inside drywall for a clean install? Also, in terms of cost-wise, any major difference? My outlet will be very close to the panel - within...

Utilizing old 40A electric stove circuit for Tesla charging..?

I have a spare 40A circuit previously used for electric stove. Now since we switched to gas stove and have a Tesla, can I just utilize the existing 40A breaker, wire and relocate the 50A electric receptacle to install a 240v circuit near the panel for the EV charging? I plan to limit the...
