New Zealand Transport Agency Warrant of Fitness

Congratulations, shows what an honest life of clean living can do :) I also achieved this milestone after 6 months of bitter conflict and 3 tries.

New Zealand Transport Agency Warrant of Fitness

It was the bent rims that tipped them off :) If warranty was an issue before, this year will be a doozy. They have sold about 2 cars so far this year in NZ so no income stream, and all those 2022/23 Model Y defects are coming to haunt them.

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

I could've sworn my Tesla got louder when faster, back when? But surely a wishlist that can be made true, would be Active Noise Cancellation for our chip seal roads? I mean, all it takes is a reasonable microphone (Tick) and Surround Sound (Tick, Tick) that can handle 200-500 Hz

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

So the wiper thing obviously hit a nerve, great to now have a "Manual" override when you go through a torrent of rain. I did wonder how you'd increase the volume of your favourite bit of music as you drove through it, given you are using the LH scrollwheel to set wiper speed. No matter, the...

    Delivery shenanigans.

You have learned early, that Tesla's response is based on whether they have hit the month's limit on warranty claims. Merits do not drive the discussion, ever. You have made a complaint, copy the correspondence to a safe place. If it fails a WOF, initiate Disputes proceedings, do not burn your...

    Ponsonby NZ service closing

Mmm they forgot to email me the good news, perhaps because we have such a longstanding (and rather frequent) association. . Maybe McDonalds has employment on the cleanup side for the entire Ponsonby admin team. It would be a shame to have them turn up at Westgate which is quite a convenient...

Negative, maybe my car is too old. This will happen more and more as the fleet ages, the hardware will become the limitation.

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

That's a great feature if it works as advertised, does my car have the right hardware?. So far FSD, wipers, auto main beam, the list goes on... do not. Maybe I groused too much and went to the back of the queue, my update yesterday was only 2024.8.7!

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Well, happy taxidriving, you got a great car to do it in.

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

EV's are all about CO2 reduction. Encouraging their use reduces emissions. Giving a purchase rebate and not taxing them is strong encouragement. "Fairness" has little to do with removing these, it amounts to stupidity unless you think we should not reduce emissions.

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

NZ RUC was implemented in 1977, to more fairly recover road damage cost due to heavy vehicles. Being largely diesel powered it got applied to fuel source. Conveniently, smaller diesels could be taxed less by simply creating a lighter weight class to tax. There is of course an implied emissions...

Model 3 Performance Replacement Tyres - Cost and Durability

May be inherent suspension problems in 2019 models, mine is too although I only took delivery in Feb 2020. I have never experienced such gaslighting as happened around these tyres and their issues. Michelin would not even divulge what the new tyre tread depths should be! The front Michelin Pilot...

Model 3 Performance Replacement Tyres - Cost and Durability

My Model 3P got 42k km on the rears - the fronts were destroyed by eating the INSIDE SHOULDERS (y'know, where you can't see to measure tread depth) by 36k. Front suspension linkages and bushes were replaced twice in that period. I am of the opinion not shared by Tesla, that they owe me at least...

    Model 3 AWD Tyre Life

Most tyres have minimum tread depth ribs in each of the grooves, at regular spacing around the tyre.. If the tread has worn down to that level at any point, replace the tyre. There is no reason to do this, before that point. Worth rotating them every 20k km as Tesla advises. At the very least...

    Aftermarket Model 3 tail lights?

Progressive... late model Audi's (and some Korean copycats) have indicator segments that light up successively from the middle to the outer edge. The light appears animated, and is very hard to miss. The Tesla has a very conventional and very small little rear indicator lamp, which judging by...

2024 Model 3 LR Test Drive

Took my trusty sound level app out on the Auckland motorway, The 2024 car subjectively sounded quieter but only 2dB difference from my old Model 3P?? Then I asked MS Pilot (which intrudes on my PC) about this. To compare 71 dB with 73 dB sound, we need to understand that decibels are a...

Well... the others have caught up! The MG is NZ Car of the Year. Just for fun I took a test drive in the top model MG4 Xpower. It is essentially as quick as my Model 3P, and has every feature you'll find in a Tesla. Their "Autopilot" is called Traffic Assist, and they don't pretend it is...

    Quality Issues WOF

Googling "Model 3 suspension" turns up a manufacturing defect in 2019 - 2021 vehicles. This was subject to a recall. I received no such notification. If you have had issues with abnormal front tyre wear, or front suspension issues, let us see it here.

Tesla Model 3 potential export to NZ from UK

Re your "Pro" item: you will take a resale hit on an imported vehicle, probably best to flog it in the UK. Also depends a little on your timing - a LR Model 3 can be had here for NZD70k or so, but you have to order soon as the 7k govt. rebate will likely go. Delivery for Mar 2024.

    Model 3 AWD Tyre Life

With my newly-purchased digital tyre tread depth gauge, I measured my new PS4S's to see how much tread you can lose before the legal 1.5mm requirement. The only online reference I could find mentions tread depth as 9.5 32nds of an inch (!) Anyway that translates to 7.54mm To my surprise the...

    Model 3 AWD Tyre Life

Per the Michelin website: "Although it may seem like a good idea to change your tyres when they begin to wear down and before reaching the legal limit tread depth, this is costly, unnecessary and can have a negative impact on the environment. On that matter, Michelin’s keeps innovating to offer...

Ouch I think you disqualified yourself! :) But I agree on the P Zero, if I switched from Michelin I'd look at Bridgestones. And yes, the strange wear pattern is the subject of an ongoing discussion with Tesla.

My Model 3P failed its WOF due to freak inside face wear on the front tyres at 36,000km I reckoned that there was another 10 to 15k left on the tread. I am wondering what Model 3 AWD drivers are getting on their cars, while getting around 170Wh/km? (Just to remove the track racers :) )

How many Tesla's in New Zealand

Topped the vehicles sales list in Sept I read. On the Shore, seems like every second car is a white Model Y. K Road has the last 5 2023 Model 3 Performance's in inventory, a steal at $12k less than I paid 3 years ago! Wonder what they'd trade mine for? Probably just decline... :(

Model 3 performance or Model 3 Long range (Highlander)

Yes I made a big fuss at the time of purchase, of how my $110k EV was going to be CHEAPER than an ICE vehicle costing $20k less, over a 10 year lifespan. A great deal of that was in the low depreciation. Now with RUC looming, and Musk chopping $20k off the value at a stroke by dropping new car...
