    App becoming required

Yeah, why install a browser when you could install a different app for every website you want to visit. Why trust 1 app when you could trust 1000s, right?

I guess that's like shaving your head when you start to go bald.

Small price to pay to drive a Tesla! (with Premium Connectivity)

    App becoming required

I was sold a car with Premium Connectivity features without any need for the app. Now a year or two later I can't have Premium Connectivity without the app. So the app is required if I don't want a vehicle that is crippled compared to what I purchased. The website will take your credit card...

    App becoming required

I did indeed. I did not choose to purchase a car that requires an app.

    App becoming required

You're right on both counts. This thread is meant to be a discussion and a warning to anyone who cares. We're on a slippery slope and I predict that, over time, without the app the vehicle will increasingly cripple itself. Privacy and security are always a trade-off with convenience.

    App becoming required

It's about being forced into the role of a product as described earlier: "A web browser is an app which functions as a digital sandbox to protect you. You don't need to forgo that protection in order to update a credit card or opt in to a service. As with Facebook, when you install and run an...

    App becoming required

So if the app is required then it's ok that it's required? It's not ok if it isn't required when you buy the car and becomes required later on.

    App becoming required

No, it's like buying a laptop, installing Linux, cruising for awhile, and then all of a sudden seeing the hardware disable itself because it realizes it isn't running Windows. I don't see why some folks are making this a desktop vs mobile thing. It's a browser vs standalone app thing...

    App becoming required

Sure, reality deviated from and subsequently reverted to the mean. App within apps? Yes. Like browser extensions. Now you've got it. Not "install my standalone app to update your credit card".

    App becoming required

Seriously? Yes. On my own and with the customer service rep on the phone who was as puzzled over this change as I was. Check out your account on tesla.com. See your Premium Connectivity subscription mentioned anywhere? It's only in the app now. You mistake a short-term trend for a...

    App becoming required

Premium Connectivity subscriptions are now app-only. See attached photo. The website will still take your credit card but not for Premium Connectivity. It's only for ordering accessories and supercharging now. I agree 100% with everyone who said if I don't want to use the app then I'm in the...

    App becoming required

I've gotten it in person from the dealership, and I also called customer service and the rep on the phone tried a lot of things with me but all failed. He told me to update the software and then to email him to let him know if that fixed it. It did not and we've traded a couple emails since...

    App becoming required

When I bought my Model Y I was assured that the phone app was not required. Recently my credit card was stolen and then canceled so the Premium Connectivity service couldn't charge its fee. I have a new card but I'm told that resubscribing and changing my card can only be done in the app which...
