    Car wash?

Ugh, those stationary wash systems need to die. The throughput is so pathetic compared to a conveyor chain wash that there's always an endless line-up. I once showed up at one after midnight in sore need of a wash from a long road trip through the country, and there were _still_ several other...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

My wife's been using it daily and loves it. Her only issues are that it doesn't know what to do with itself at the end of the drive (then prompts you to explain why you cancelled it), and it doesn't signal right turns / exits from roundabouts. (Which is kind of a big deal in Waterloo Region with...

Anyone use the OEM front license plate holder?

Ours came from Tesla with the OEM plate holder already mounted. We did spot that it had shifted a bit and was starting to peel after the first month or two, but mobile service came out and fixed it for free, and it's been a year since that now without any further issue.

Why you should skip the powered frunk and grab a Satonic soft close frunk

Yeah, my experience was with the Hansshow power frunk soft close motor getting stuck and its emergency release cable not releasing it. Hopefully the motor in this kit is more reliable, but if it does fail then the fender access is your only option to do something about it, assuming you've...

Why you should skip the powered frunk and grab a Satonic soft close frunk

I'd put the motor somewhere that you can reach from the fender with just liner off. When it gets stuck that's your only access point. (Learned this from our power frunk experience, fortunately ours was reachable that way...)

Alberta imposing $200 EV tax starting in 2025

Yup, our Model Y is only 400 lbs heavier than the Santa Fe XL it replaced, that's like 2.5 passengers. Maybe Alberta should charge an extra $80 per year for each kid in your family...

    Car wash?

My wife ping-pongs between small towns all day as a visiting nurse, which in the winter with road salt dumped onto nearly every paved surface means that the car needs a bath just about every day. Hand washing would kill us...

Burning 25ft 10/3 cords using my mobile connector in the rain with a 120v outside GFCI outlet

I am standing up to say that it doesn't check the current on the ground wire, it only checks that the current in the hot and neutral are equal. That's exactly why it will work on that 2-wire hair dryer. If you have 15 minutes to spare, watch this:

Burning 25ft 10/3 cords using my mobile connector in the rain with a 120v outside GFCI outlet

If something is arcing to the ground and the GFCI doesn't trip, then its definitely faulty. It actually ignores the ground wire, what it does is measure the difference in current between the hot and neutral wire. When all the current that goes out the hot comes back through the neutral (or the...

Left front fender camera error - anyone else have this?

Yup, on dark roads I tend to get it for one or the other of the side cameras.

Best (most problem free and well supported) Power Frunk for the 2023

Lol, it's the soft close motor of the Hansshow power frunk that recently failed on my wife and I. It was fixable though, if yours has an emergency release pull on it you may want to read this and double-check your install: TMC | Post, unjamming my power frunk

What to do when Power Frunk Completely Fails to Open?

This seems to be the most recent thread on this issue, so I'm adding our experience. (There's a TLDR at the bottom for those that want to skip the novel.) My wife's a visiting nurse, going in to multiple houses and schools all day, and the frunk seemed a great place to store her nursing...

Play music from Android phone's memory?

The car can't directly access the music stored on your phone, but run any of your phone's music player apps and it will play the audio over Bluetooth. You'll see the titles and have pause and skip controls, but to actually navigate through your music collection by album/artist/whatever, you'll...

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

Tesla probably says 8 years because the cell technology it relies on could be obsolete by then. It gets them off the hook from having to upgrade all those modems for free. (If they've even designed the hardware with a modem that can be swapped out.)

    Supercharger voting results

I should have read this before I burned three votes in Newfoundland. I just remember doing the long drive from St John's to the ferry at Channel-Port aux Basques in a fossil car a few years back, and figured the route needed all the love I could give it.

    Supercharger voting results

Ooo, Montebello will be useful on trips to Mont Tremblant! I just voted for my own pet location, Sarnia, then spent my other four votes on Newmarket and the connecting route from Channel-Port aux Basque to St John's Newfoundland.

Supercharging growth lagging compared to sales

Kitchener is getting a new location on the west end to supplement the downtown(ish) one on Victoria St; the local EV group on Facebook has had a few construction photos posted. I'd still love to see one in Sarnia, once again this past weekend we rolled into London with just 1% remaining after a...

Is it madness that wipers can't be controlled by the driver on cruise control or autopilot mode?

Really?? That would be awesome for driving on greasy winter roads! (Yes, I know the S3XY Buttons could always do this, but it would be nice to be able to do it without spending any extra money.)

Why you should skip the powered frunk and grab a Satonic soft close frunk

For what it's worth, the Hansshow power frunk we installed on our Model Y back in August also uses the OEM latch, and just hooks a cable to its spring to provide soft close. The only sketchy thing about it was mounting the controller and suck-it-down motor with zip ties. It also came with large...

What features do you wish the Model Y came with (Dec 2022/Jan 2023) Wishlist

Thanks, good to know. Still though, that's not doing it in the Tesla app anymore, it's doing it with a workaround; which Tesla could also break with a future update. I love that there are third parties like the S3XY button guys enabling features on Teslas that they didn't have before, but it...

What features do you wish the Model Y came with (Dec 2022/Jan 2023) Wishlist

Yeah, our power frunk became less useful just a few weeks after install because an update made it so that the Tesla app won't blip the frunk open solenoid anymore if it thinks the frunk is already open, i.e. now you can't remotely close the frunk from the Tesla app. :(
  24. KevinT3141

What features do you wish the Model Y came with (Dec 2022/Jan 2023) Wishlist

Well you're in luck, the latest update just took care of the first two. :) We installed it overnight and took it for a spin to brunch this morning, and the synthetic birds-eye view while backing into parking spots (and our garage) is impressive given the not-quite-birds-eye camera angles...

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

Ooo, that could be helpful (via the CCS adapter) on our Tremblant trips. I wish there was a way to make the Y pre-condition the battery for non-Tesla chargers (or maybe there is and I just don't know it?)

    Travelling in Italy

When Tesla launched in Europe they couldn't import NACS because residential 3-phase power is common there, but the amp limits on any single phase are so low that people would be stuck at 7 kW if using a single-phase connector like NACS. Instead they used the standard 3-phase Mennekes connector...

    First Tow of the Boat!

Curious on the magnetic hitch cover, both the ONTEN and Ungodly Design covers say that they only fit Model Y's with a VIN below 200000, our VIN ends in 634xxx. Oh well, I can dream...

    First Tow of the Boat!

It's amazing how much more quietly the vehicle tows with both the ball mount and the hitch ball lubricated. (Both in the Tesla and the Santa Fe before it, we got weird clunking while towing until we clued in to lubing up the ball mount before sliding it in to the receiver.) We just do a quick...

[Aftermarket] Power Frunk not closing from the Tesla App

For what it's worth, I just gave the Tesla app a 3 star review in the Play Store with the comment: Maybe if enough of us do that, they'll walk it back.

    First Tow of the Boat!

Thanks Tom, much appreciated. I was in the seat so hopefully my weight was on it, but maybe turning around as far as I could to back up the trailer had lifted me out of it a little. I'll definitely keep it in mind for next time!
  31. KevinT3141

    First Tow of the Boat!

Hey @TomB985, any tips for backing a Model Y down a boat launch with the trailer on? Our last time out was a steeper ramp than we'd used before, and the @#!! thing kept going into Park on me automatically (to prevent roll-away according to a touchscreen message) as I was still carefully trying...

New massive CCS1 charging station in Hope BC - It's free..for now!

Why Tesla trade-in price extremely low?

Kijiji and Auto Trader show what people think their car is worth and are trying to get, not what they actually get for them in the end. That said, probably still more than the trade-in value you were offered, but you do "pay" for the convenience when you trade in. I do have to say that in our...

    First Tow of the Boat!

We ordered without the hitch so we could pick one up two days later about 45 minutes drive from here, rather than waiting a few months while they built us a new one with the hitch. It did cost more to add after the fact, but the gas we didn't burn during the 2 months / 10,000 km of driving a new...

    First Tow of the Boat!

@Watts_Up We can all dream... My Seadoo is a 2003, and the winterization place told me that if anything on it breaks they won't be able to service it anymore. (No parts supply, as the recreation industry doesn't have to keep spares available for 10 years after the end of production like the car...

    First Tow of the Boat!

@TomB985 I'm sure having your Tesla at the gas pump got some looks. In the past we had the odd fuel stop with the old Santa Fe where the pumps lined up well enough that one of us filled the truck at the first while the other filled the Seadoos at the second. I made the first pull with the Y...

    How to justify Tow Hitch?

We ordered our 7-seater without the hitch because it let us drive one off the lot in a neighbouring city just two days later, instead of being on a months-long waiting list. Then we had a Tesla service centre add the hitch and wiring to our Model Y after the fact. Sure that cost more than just...

What features do you wish the Model Y came with (Dec 2022/Jan 2023) Wishlist

Rear tire depth tread low warning.. how to reset ?

Thanks. We got this warning a lot after the snow tires went on in mid March (we had to wait 6 weeks for the Hakka R5 EVs to arrive after buying a Tesla out of the blue in January after the price drop), it was only after the summer rubber went back on a few weeks ago that I learned about this...

For those who purchased or upgraded to a 2023, are you happy with your decision, knowing what you now know about your vehicle?

Ours also displays the side cameras that face backwards (the ones in the little bump-outs on the front fenders), but not the cameras in the door pillars that point downwards. What I'm saying is, their software could probably stitch the views from the five cameras into a top down view to show 270...

New 2023 model Y doesnt include homelink?

So our 30-day free trial worked well but expired two weeks ago. I did contact the bank associated...

    Ontario - Flo chargers

We did our first Flo CCS charge on the weekend. My wife's a visiting nurse and was the on-call on Saturday, but we forgot to charge it to 100% overnight instead of the usual 80. Sure enough while doing our own running around late in the day it began to look like we'd come up short. We were...

For those who purchased or upgraded to a 2023, are you happy with your decision, knowing what you now know about your vehicle?

The 360 view on our Santa Fe was brilliant for parking, I wish Tesla would at least give us the door pillar cams for a 270 view.

    Ontario - Flo chargers

We made an unplanned stop at the Barrie ONroute on Sunday, so I thought I'd give Ivy's 150 kW charger another go using our Tesla CCS adapter. I figured out how to start it with the app this time, the handshake was quick, and it levelled out at 57 kW. We weren't there long enough for the battery...

    Ontario - Flo chargers

We tried to use a 150 kW Ivy charger with our CCS adapter at an ONroute stop during our recent trip to Tremblant. I couldn't figure out how to get their app to start the charger, so I scanned the QR, logged in with my account, manually entered the credit card details, and the charger enabled. We...

    I'm off to "Pet-aWawa" - don’t get me started 🤣

Thanks. Within a day or two it gave me a different route/stops yet again. Maybe all the stalls at Nepean were just busy the first time I ran the trip; in the end we ended up stopping in Kemptville. :)
