    Wall vs Mobile vs @#$%

You can set the Tesla Wall Connector for various max amperages from 12 to 48 amps. So if I were in your shoes, I'd get it, pull out the 14-50 receptacle, and reuse the wiring for the TWC. You can then set the max amperage as appropriate for your wiring/breaker via an app on your phone. I...

Is disabling battery preconditioning now supported?

On a road trip last week, I noticed that when a Supercharger site is the next stop and battery preconditioning is happening, I can now touch the preconditioning message on the screen and it disappears. However when I watch the energy display after doing this, there is still power being consumed...

    Donglemania: fail

Unless your wall connector is on a 120V circuit, there is no neutral connection. So it would be a 240V only connection. There are a couple of adapters available from evseadapters, and no doubt others, to go from J1772 plug to a NEMA style receptacle. But again, 240V only.

Wiki Largest gaps between Superchargers on US Interstates

I'd like to see one in Liberal KS - which is on US 54, and very near where US 160 crosses it. Meade KS would work as well. Back in my college days, I used to drive US 54 a lot. So it is a route I like to keep an eye on. But more likely they'd want to put one in Wellington KS as it is an exit...

What's with all the 6 kW public L2 chargers? Why is it so rare to find faster AC charging options?

Gen 1 UMC does a full 40 amps. There are others on the market as well.

What's with all the 6 kW public L2 chargers? Why is it so rare to find faster AC charging options?

RV parks could give you 10 kW, instead of 6 kW via their 14-50 receptacles.

What's with all the 6 kW public L2 chargers? Why is it so rare to find faster AC charging options?

To add to what @Earl mentioned, apparently a lot of early funding for public L2 stations spec'd 30-32 amp charging. Combine with the common commercial voltage of 208V and you get ~6 kW. Adequate for early Volts, Leafs, and other early EVs. But less so for today's vehicles and environment...

    Off topic galore

Lots of noises about banning new ICE car sales in 2030-2035 in several states and countries. Lots of people were against compact fluorescent light bulbs - including me. Horrible light quality, and many other problems. LED saved the day.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

It would be interesting to know how much of a range hit you'll take on the Primacy Tour AS compared to the other LRR tires. I need to replace my T1 spec MXM4s sometime in the next few months. After two sets of them, I'm definitely looking for other options.

Solo Roadtrip from San Diego to Vancouver (Canada) in a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Long Range

Part of the charm is that it is an old/rustic, repurposed, gas station out in the middle of nowhere. The family that owns it also owns Olsen Run Winery (https://olsenrun.com/collections/wines). You can get burgers and sandwiches at the food truck. They usually set up some tables and chairs...

Solo Roadtrip from San Diego to Vancouver (Canada) in a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Long Range

Great trip! I find the mountain passes in southern Oregon scarier than the ones around Shasta. Next time I'd recommend stopping at Harris Ranch (just because...) and Harrisburg Oregon (fun wine tasting and food truck at the re-purposed gas station).

New "Universal Wall Connector" doesn't charge the Rivian.

What is your Access Control set to? It should at least be set to "All Vehicles", but some cars require "Compatibility Mode". My wife's Chevy Volt had some minor issues with "All Vehicles". (Wasn't doing delayed charging correctly.) So I now have it set to "Compatibility Mode" and it seems to...

    Supercharger - Ely, NV

(Raises hand. :D) Been wanting to visit the Northern Nevada Railroad Museum for a while. This will give me an excuse to go there. Though I've already done US 50 through there in my Model 3 "the hard way". (14-50s)

    NEMA 10-30R on a 20A Breaker?

That was my thought as well - since the reference to the 20 amp breaker was singular.

Supercharger - Sunnyvale, CA - El Camino Real (under construction, 12 V3 stalls)

Saratoga Ave was the same way. Took them ages to get power up on the site. A few weeks before it went live, there was a PG&E crew working underground about 1/2 mile away by the Westgate Mall. I wondered at the time if they were upgrading the power to the area for the Supercharger site.

    Supercharger - Sammamish, WA (LIVE 12 Mar 2024, 8 V3 stalls)

When we visit, we stay on the southeast side by Phantom Lake. So I tend to use the Issaquah SCs while shopping at the Fred Meyers. But I've used that downtown location as well. Saw my first Model S Plaid there! The guy had just bought it a couple days before and was charging it for the first...

    Supercharger - Sammamish, WA (LIVE 12 Mar 2024, 8 V3 stalls)

Wow. The nearby EA that I used is at the Target on Gillman Blvd. While it worked for me, after a fashion, recent plugshare reviews haven't been great. There was supposed to be a site in the Eastgate Mall parking lot on the south side of Bellevue - which would be the perfect location for when...

Travel charger pigtails I made today

As mentioned, the voltage doesn't matter either way. The EVSE only reports max amperage to the car. My 25' Camco TT-30 cable is rated to 300V.

    Supercharger - Sammamish, WA (LIVE 12 Mar 2024, 8 V3 stalls)

Hopefully this will take some load off the Urban SCs in Issaquah. That place is a zoo! Last time I was visiting, I used a nearby EA instead. (And it actually worked - after several swipes with two different credit cards...)

Travel charger pigtails I made today

I made a similar 14-30/50P -> 5-20R adapter for my wife's 12 amp Chevy Volt EVSE. I say 14-30/50 because since the neutral blade isn't being used, one can omit it entirely. Then the same plug can plug into either receptacle type. You could do the same and only need to carry two adapters...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

This is weird. I just went out to look, and Tesla seems to have recently changed it. There is no longer a "two lightning bolt" option. Just one and three. The EVgo stations show up under the one bolt option, along with Destination stations. Anyway - one of the earliest attempts by EVgo was...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

Many/most EVgo stations that have the integrated CHAdeMO adapter show up on the Tesla nav. One needs to have the "two lightning bolt" option, same as for Urban Superchargers, selected on the nav screen when displaying charging locations. Even turns on preconditioning while driving to them.

What came first, your EV car or the L2 charger?

Installed a 14-50 in anticipation of an EV when we did our solar install in 2013. Bought wife's Volt in 2015. Started using a Gen 1 UMC, modified with a J1772 plug, a month after buying the Volt. Recently upgraded the whole setup to a Universal Wall connector. Finally a member of the "48 Amp...

Who can catch Tesla ? They seem to be experiencing exponential growth…..

My wifes 2016 (Gen 2) Volt is almost totally run in EV mode. When new, it typically showed over 50 miles of EV range at full charge. Now after ~75k miles it is in the 40s. It is interesting that back when the Voltstats game (Volt Stats! (RIP) Tracked real world usage of Chevy Volts in the...

Price changes for mobile and wall connectors

Universal wall connector is now showing $620. Of course I paid $695 a month ago... The UWC has replaced my old 14-50/Gen 1 UMC setup. Finally joined the 48 amp club! The extra 6 feet of cable and the wifi/app connectivity features are also a big help. We use it for both our Tesla and our...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

Although it doesn't affect me, do any of the Model Ys that aren't CCS compatible yet require the Bundle of Wires harness? If not, it seems like Tesla should be offering the upgrade to any Model Y owner - since it is simply an ECU swap. I did the Bundle of Wires mod for my 2018 Model 3, and it...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

A cousin of mine bought a Model Y a while back. Loves the car. However he wasn't impressed with the "15 minute" delivery experience. He told the Tesla person he was "technologically illiterate". (He is a retired pediatrician, specialized in oncology and hematology.) She quipped back "if you...

Another SC along the historic Lincoln Highway - now more or less US 30 in Illinois. It is also midway between where the earlier and later alignments of historic Route 66 crossed the LH - in Joliet and Plainfield respectively. (The LH began between NYC and San Francisco in 1913. Route 66...

Emergency charging from a portable generator

I've successfully tried it using the evseadapters L14-30 adapter you linked to. While the generator I used was supposedly rated high enough that it should have been able to charge at the full 24 amps, it didn't. I had to dial the charging current down to 11 or 12 amps before the car would...

Universal Wall Connector and "Compatibility mode"

Installed the UWC and am now a member of the "48 amp" club. However with my wifes 2016 Chevy Volt, I noticed a weirdness: I had set the Access Control to "All Vehicles". The Volt charges OK under this setting. But the delayed charging, so it would charge during off-peak times, was not...

    2018 M3--CCS Adapter Not supported.

Time for a trip across US 50 to Ely? There are CCS (and CHAdeMO) stations along the way, but no Superchargers. Same if you then want to loop down to Las Vegas along US 93. I want to do that drive when the Ely Supercharger site eventually gets installed.

    The demise of the OEMs

PHEVs have been designed both ways. My wifes Chevy Volt is definitely designed as an EV first, with ICE integrated in. But others take a traditional ICE drivetrain and integrate electric motors into them. GM initially tried calling the Volt an "EREV" - Extended Range EV. But it never seemed...

OEM CCS adapter now available to order in North America, Retrofit for older cars coming in 2023

One I tested a while back maxed at 168 kW (171 kW on charger screen). It was close to the best I've done with CCS, which was low 170s at an EA. Got Autocharge+ to work as well.
