Exactly. I could also imagine a scenario where they upgrade the computer, but not the cameras. This would seemingly make SW development more efficient.

All cameras seem to have the same footprint, but the front camera has a different ambient light sensor location. Given this, it seems Tesla would need to produce a new front camera for HW3 -> 4 retro cars, since it's not likely they will replace windshields.

Don't quote on me on this :) But based on the information on the Tesla site, Model Y qualifies under the SUV limit (MSRP of $80K or below). Assuming income requirements are met, I think MYP qualifies for the $7,500 credit.

lol. I’ll fully own that I’m high on hopium here, but I’ve only mentioned paying for a retrofit. I have a ‘23 car that I most definitely will not sell anytime soon for HW4. But if Tesla can make a retrofit worthwhile for themselves financially, I’m sure it would make a ton of folks like myself...

Yeah, I cannot imagine a free situation for this. Too many HW3 cars on the road. Although, they could limit to those who purchased FSD (full package vs subscription). I’d guess that number is way more manageable.

Curious if folks would pay to upgrade. Say it’s confirmed HW3 works functionally, but HW4 is safer and somewhat more reliable, so the upgrade becomes optional. For me, if a $3K upgrade path were offered, I’d upgrade instantly. $5K and I’d have to think about it.

Does anyone know why a small form factor difference in the computer would be a limiting factor for HW3 to 4 retrofit? I thought the computers mount to a bracket which mounts to the car. I know there is also the coolant input/output ports to consider, but I'm not sure if the ports actually...

Good question. As far as I'm aware, it is unknown at this time (until someone does a Model Y HW4 computer teardown). The computer in MY is different than in S/X — there is more info available on that computer.

Ugh. Sorry about that. Probably best to check the VIN. There is a kind person on Reddit who is looking up VINs. Maybe start there. Would also check at pickup.

Please see my post above with the HW4 photos. The repeater difference (see the blinker) is the most obvious sign. Also, have you asked your SA?

The red glow wasn't visible in the photo above due to the angle (your monitor is still OK). :) The shorter blinker is HW4. From other angles you get a cool looking red glow. Some examples here (second set of photos):

Your vin is from Fremont, so it's highly likely you have HW4. You can text your Service Advisor to ask (you can do this by replying to the same text message where you were notified your vin was assigned). Tesla might not confirm the HW version. But there is an awesome person on Reddit (check...

There are most definitely new cameras, just not new locations (and one fewer in the front due to higher resolution camera).

There is an awesome person on Reddit (Model Y channel) who is checking vins. You might ask there.

Based on your Vin and fact a Fremont car, I believe highly likely you have HW4. All new Fremont Y vins seem to be HW4. But I would text your SA to confirm and make sure to double-check when picking up. Congrats on the car!

Thanks for posting. I watched this earlier today and found it very informative. I think he’s using an S for the HW4 footage. Would likely be the same, but I’m curious about the HW4 Y, since I’ve read that S/X have the radar and Y doesn’t.

I've wondered about this also, since the code for this new system is AP04 (vs APH1-4 like past computers / likely nothing and just getting the sequence back on track) and all of the dash cam footage I've seen from new Ys has more accurate color but the resolution appears the same as HW3 cameras...

Hi all. Picked up MYP last Friday -- adore the car but feeling the disappointment I was a week from HW4 😞. Does anyone have any leads on whether HW4 upgrades will be possible? I've heard "not likely" but also one case of a customer hearing it may be (I think)? Any info much appreciated.

Haha. Totally share your reliance on this forum (it's embarrassing how often I'm checking). :) Per others' experiences, VINs have been delivered over the weekend (and during non-business hours). Hopefully you receive yours soon. And please share back when you do. We're waiting on similar models.

For me, EDD changes appeared in the app and on the website, but there was no announcement (email / text) about the change.

During my search, I found that Demo vehicles are noted as Demo Vehicle in the inventory. Not sure if this was always the case (or the case for all for sale demo cars). Hopefully useful info.

Based on what others have shared here, it sounds like it could be a rejection or late cancellation. I'm not sure if a Tesla SA has or can share that information, but personally I would ask.
