Tesla Model S 75D 2018 battery heater and other components

I have a very limited understanding of the cabin PTC heater so take this with a grain of salt, but my understanding is that it is electrically split in 2 different halves. One half will provide heat for a set amount of time, then that half will switch off and the other half will provide heat...

Tesla Model S 75D 2018 battery heater and other components

The PTC heater for the battery is separate from the cabin PTC heater. PTC is just the type of heating element: Positive Temperature Coefficient (resistance increases with temperature so it's virtually impossible to overheat). The battery heater is under the frunk tub and the cabin heater is in...

Tesla Model S 75D 2018 battery heater and other components

What year? Does it have the PTC heater for the battery coolant loop? If so, it's an easy swap with a new one.

    Model S 85D Charging times

Yeah, the older ones are not really good road trip cars. Perfect for around town, local trips though. I drive, at a minimum, 130 miles every single day. I charge at home and work and it works great for me. For those rare occasions I need to go on longer trips I just plan to spend about an hour...

Tesla Service Center damaged Model S Plaid

It seems to me that Tesla does what Tesla wants to do. It's very easy, from a customer service standpoint, to just ignore people. It's for this reason that my current Tesla will probably be my last one. It's also the reason why I never really wanted to get a Tesla in the first place, they just...

$3k repair bill, is this legitimate?

I would say the price is reasonable. It is not easily repairable at home if you are going to replace the carrier assembly, as everything on the front of the car is attached to it and will need to be transferred over to the new carrier: condensers, radiator, all sensors, ducting, etc... The...

Tesla Service Center damaged Model S Plaid

I don't have anything to add other than they are responsible for damage they cause to your vehicle while it is in their possession. If you had "aftermarket" tires on it and they poked a hole through one, they'd be responsible. It has nothing to do with the fact that it's aftermarket when they...

    Model S 85D Charging times

Depends on the year. My 2013 S 85 would only get, maybe, 20kw in 20 minutes at 10% which would roughly equate to 60 miles. Experience says it's not quite that much. Others with newer MS 85 will chime in.

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

I'm certain it is not comparing GPS indicated speeds to vehicle indicated speeds and adjusting the speedometer. My 2013 S85 is consistently 2 mph higher indicated on the speedometer than the GPS reports.

    Help identifying this part

It's an unused electrical connector with a dummy plug in it. Goes nowhere on your particular car. Most likely for an option that you don't have.

Are you still on the original battery pack with your 2012-2015 Model S?

2013 12/13 build date S85 with 162,223 miles. 3rd owner, lemon branded title after the first owner. Bought it the end of July this year (2023) with 151,000 miles on it. Original battery, 222 miles at 100%. Drive it around 140 miles every day to/from work. Just had the front end all apart due to...

Does Toolbox 3 work with 2013 MCU 1 Tegra?

Another update. I was poking around in the service menu today and noticed there is now a button for coolant purge. I ran the purge routine, it ran the pumps and valves for a little bit. The coolant level never changed. I must have gotten all of the air out with the method above.

Upgrading 2013 MS to air suspension??

Perfect! Thanks, that is one of the controllers I was looking at.

Upgrading 2013 MS to air suspension??

Has anyone upgraded their early MS from standard coil-overs to air suspension? I see all four air struts are available relatively inexpensively ($1500 for all 4) and I could easily plumb them up to an aftermarket air suspension pump/tank. Wondering if anyone has done this and is it just that...

    buying a lemon?

No, I bought it used back in July. There are no signs of why the buyback occurred. The battery is the original, all of the paint marks are all over everything, etc... I can't explain why the title is branded "Lemon" other than Tesla buying it back to remove the free supercharging and free...

    buying a lemon?

I bought my 2013 MS 85 a few months ago and it was bought back by Tesla and has a "Lemon" mark on the title. It was purchased back by Tesla in 2020, yes, 7-8 years after they originally sold the car. I don't think it was so much a Lemon Law buyback as it was a way for Tesla to get the car back...

Experiences and options to sell as-is after HV battery failure?

To answer Unamonkey, as a person who would purchase a Tesla with a bad battery: No, FUSC would not be worth anything to me. Solely for the reason that there is no way to verify that it will transfer and that you didn't sell it back to Tesla. I'm very dubious as to purchasing a Tesla with FUSC...

    Coolant leak on quad valve.

The only place I could find the G48 coolant was on Amazon. It showed up in a couple of days. I could not find the coolant locally at any of my parts stores.

Does Toolbox 3 work with 2013 MCU 1 Tegra?

Well, I haven't tried using the paid subscription to toolbox 3 yet but wanted to update this thread in case someone comes here via search. I was able to fill the coolant system and get the air out by using a standard coolant vacuum fill system like is used on every other car in the universe. I...

    Coolant leak on quad valve.

If you didn't find the coolant, it is G48 used by many German vehicles. I noticed in my search, that the 50/50 premixed G48 coolant is green in color. Not that it makes a difference to the actual chemistry of the coolant but I didn't want to put green coolant in my car and risk issues so I...

Does Toolbox 3 work with 2013 MCU 1 Tegra?

I have repaired and/or replaced the failed components after my deer-car collision. I would like to run the coolant bleed procedure (and calibrate the active louvres, etc...) as the coolant system has been open for about a month. I've procured the cable to access the data link on the car but...

2013 12v battery in one word

I did this on my 2013 this past July after only 3 days of ownership. I tried to use the mobile tech from Tesla, but they are not available in my area. I scheduled it to be replaced at the "local" Tesla service center because I had heard it was a pain and it was super cheap ($180 all in to have...

Not Available WTB: 2013 Front Bumper cover and other related parts

Hi goodbadboys9. My crash bar is in good shape, thanks. As for the radiator, I am currently in negotiations to purchase a complete front carrier assembly with everything I need already on it. If that falls through or isn't the correct one for me, I will let you know. Thanks.

Wanted WTB: 2013 Front Bumper cover and other related parts

Looking for some front-end parts for my recently damaged 2013 Model S (85, RWD, LDU, no auto pilot, no radar, no nothing except parking sensors). I need the front bumper cover (with 4 parking sensors, I can cut the holes if there are none), nosecone, left active louver, left condenser, ducting...

Looking for a Push Bumper/Deer Catcher for a MX and/or MS

I just hit a deer with my 2013 MS 85. I haven't started tearing into it yet, will do that tonight, but the actual bumper (crash bar) that behind the bumper cover (nosecone) looks like it is steel. I'm thinking I could rig up either a Model Y brush guard or any of the generic brush guards that...

    Supercharging Eligible 2013 Model S

Yes, this is why I passed on a local Model S60 at a local dealer's lot (we don't get many Teslas for sale around me). I did the Tesla VIN decoder and noticed there were versions of the Model S that didn't get supercharging at all, only A/C charging. The initial purchaser saved a couple grand but...

Corrosion prevention in the "rust belt"

Thanks WallysRide. That is on my list of preventative action to take when I have the Frunk tub out. This car lived its entire life in Phoenix AZ and southern CA, mostly in AZ so it hasn't even really seen much in the way of moisture. Surprisingly the rubber components are still in good shape so...

Corrosion prevention in the "rust belt"

I've had my 2013 Model S 85 for a little over 2 months now. I live in Western NY and for those of you that know that area we use a lot of salt and brine on the roads. It makes for a very safe drive but also causes all kinds of corrosion to our vehicles. I know most of the Model S is aluminum and...

Tesla BMS Errors for HVIL BMS_F036

While I don't know that it will help you, there are wiring diagrams on the service.tesla.com website that may point you in the right direction. I would assume, since it is rodent damage you should be able to physically see where the damage was done and simply repair the wires?

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

I just got my 2013 MS85 a month ago but in the just over 4000 miles I've put on her I'm averaging 311wh/mi. I think that's pretty good considering all of my driving is through the PA "mountains".

    New owner 2013 S85

Hello all. I'm the excited new owner of a 2013 Model S 85 all black. I'd been looking for several months for something to drive back and forth to work (I drive 63 miles each way to work) to replace my aging Chevy Volt. I found this S85 with 151,000 miles while on a road trip for work. Found in...

    2013 Model S P85 Won't Charge

Have you tried hooking up a 12volt battery charger to the 12 volt battery and let it charge overnight, then with the battery charger still connected try to plug the EVSE in to charge the HV battery. I'm very new to the Tesla scene, as I just purchased a 2013 MS 85 with 150,000 miles. I got the...
