Thread for the most minor of suggestions

Mirrors pointing down in reverse is not unique to Tesla, and it's not about wheels. It's about not running over small children.

Arrive with minimum % battery - Navigation

Then you get to your destination with 7% left. At this time, the Tesla app doesn't let you specify a minimum charge level at destination arrival. Once you get to your destination, the car 'assumes' you have some charging available to you.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

FSD 12.3.5 oddity tonight. I just installed in on my 2023 MYP and ran my usual short test loop. Saw two new things happen, including an oddity. It was mostly the same as 12.3.4 as far as I could tell. It still has lane-change-wiggle. It still stops-creeps-stops at stop signs. However, it...

FSD free trial. Very impressed. So better than Autopilot

Yes. It doesn't tell you what highway version is running, as far as I know. You infer it from lack of changes plus the behavior of the maximum / auto speed limit. (A change there happens when you go on/off the freeway.) FSD now just requires a single downward pull of the right stalk (on my...

Arrive with minimum % battery - Navigation

It's almost always 10% in my (limited) road trip experience. That gives you quite a bit of buffer - should be up to 30 miles - in case of headwinds and the like. The way I tell is by looking at when the car tells me I can continue my journey (to the next Supercharger). It's always when the...

Is there an upfront fee for warranty repairs?

Correct, that's what it sounds like. A lot of people come in with false/mistaken warranty claims. It takes time to look at stuff, and I can see charging for it if not under warranty, or you're just providing free inspections.
  7. P

Arrive with minimum % battery - Navigation

It's been my experience on road trips that Tesla tries to get you to the next SC destination with at least 10% of charge. For instance, you have a very long gap on the highway so there is really only one choice for the charging stop you are at - stay there long enough to achieve 10% estimated...

    Charging Station?

First, let's talk options. Tesla Wall Connector, or Tesla Mobile Connector. The Tesla Wall Connector (and I assume Universal version with J1772 and NACS connectors) uses a 60amp breaker but is set to use 80% of that, meaning 48amps, max. That's the one that gives you 11.5kWh charging. It...

Thread for the most minor of suggestions

Now that I'm using FSD a lot, I'd like a smidge more control than tapping the accelerator or hoping a turn signal gets the car to change lanes. I'd like the ability to add a small joystick to be able to adjust the car right or left a little bit (within the lane), speed up a bit by pushing...

NEVI funding showing up along with V4's in Colorado

NEVI publishes all their grants. NEVI is publicly-funded so has to be open to the public. I assume it's equal across the US, but here in Arizona NEVI funds 80% of the cost and expects a private owner/operator to pick up the rest of the cost. As I was thinking how hard even 20% of the cost...

March of 9s: The Beginning of the End

I used version 11, and I now use 12.3.4. What a difference! Version 11 put the excitement into a boring drive. Never knew quite what it would do when multiple cars were around, but it would sometimes be dramatic. Version 12 drives like my sister. I mostly drive around Phoenix, AZ, which...

Why the extremely large Supecharger sites?

Holiday traffic with a 90% EV rate might start making the site fill up. Maybe. Over 100 V3 stalls - that's a HECK of a lot of capacity! (I wonder what the average throughput would be? What is the average length of time spent at the average Interstate V3 site?)
  14. P

USA Supercharger V4, Where? Why not?

That might explain the major work being done at the Stapley and Higley site in Mesa. Had to move the stalls over a bit. Seems like they could have figured that out last year when they built the site.
  15. P

Why the extremely large Supecharger sites?

Go watch the big EV truck race across america (Out Of Spec, others) and see what happened when the Cybertruck and the Rivian showed up there at the same time. It cost Rivian the race, or at least 2nd place, when they hit those EA chargers. I think the Cybertruck was in and out in less than 10...

Why the extremely large Supecharger sites?

I agree it's ideally positioned as a charge stop. But it's of a size that looks like it would support 100% of the I-10 traffic being EV's. It's very uncrowded at present, partially because everyone automatically goes to the old (36 stall) site at Carl's Junior. The nav tends to take you to...

    Supercharger - Mesa, AZ

It's a very odd situation. First, the site is only about a year old and was all V3. Scroll through this thread and you see that construction hadn't even started 2 years ago. I've seen sites stay in permitting longer than this site's permit, construction and deconstruction! Second, the...

    Notice of FSD Installation

You get an update notification (pushed to you) on your phone app and in your car. You then choose to download and install it (or not), it downloads, installs and about 45 minutes later you have a new software version in your car. Whatever version of FSD came with that software version will...

Why the extremely large Supecharger sites?

I'm not complaining. I've charged there twice and loved the extra space. But ... there are 120 stalls!! Yes, 8 of them are 150kW, but that leaves 112 V3 stalls. WHY would they make this location the third largest in the world? Oh, this stop has all covered stalls (the new, 84 stall...

Why the extremely large Supecharger sites?

Yes, eventually a lot of non-Teslas will be there, but that seems a very long time. And no grants that I know of on this site. If there were grants, there would be V4 stalls there. The more I think about it, the more I think Tesla has locked in 100% of the traffic in the area. It can't be...

USA Supercharger V4, Where? Why not?

I have to wonder. Since all the V4's I've heard about so far are actually just V4 stalls on V3 infrastructure, I don't understand why V4's haven't been the only stalls installed for the past year? It makes little to no sense. Certainly if NEVI funding is involved you get V4 stalls simply to...

Why the extremely large Supecharger sites?

Here's a thread for speculation with little or no evidence! Why is Tesla putting in extremely large supercharger sites like Quartzite, Arizona? This is a very rural area with a major interstate freeway. There were 36 v2 & v3 SC's here already before Tesla put in a huge 84-stall SC site a...

March of 9s: The Beginning of the End

Loops are a great way to test the car against road and signage conditions. Traffic too, if it is consistent. I have a much shorter drive that I usually end up doing at night so not many cars to deal with. In my loop, the Satnav takes me one way to the destination, but another way home...

    An interesting journey last night

Two thoughts there. First, Traffic Aware Cruise Control. Vehicles are running on cruise control, catch up to you and slow down to your speed. Eventually the driver takes over to pass you. Second, drunk drivers.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I've wondered about that. I have a 2023 MYP with HW4. It doesn't run into curbs or run over lines, and it's generally been pretty good. Almost the only time I disengage is to go faster.
  33. P

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

FSD overrules Nav guidance when it wants to, and that's the way it has to be. But I don't know that FSD sees a difference between the Nav turning on a signal or a driver.

    3kw and 7kw charging

If it works on AC anywhere, then the car's onboard inverter sounds good. Start looking at charger settings. This is really weird as you have chargers that work on another car, and your car works on another charger. There is no pattern.
  35. P

Supercharger - Okeechobee, FL (Yeehaw Junction)

Yes, but some models have larger batteries than others. CT is over 120 - it will charge longer than a M3.
  36. P

Supercharger - Phoenix, AZ - W Happy Valley Rd

No, only the NEVI ones, and some others. Until now Arizona has only one V4 station, but the one at Stapley and Higley is being retrofitted from V3 to V4. NEVI funding requires at least CCS, hence Magicdock becomes synonymous with NEVI, for now. That Stapley/Higley downtime interests me a...

Any chance there is a power outlet in the carport?

FSDb acceleration / deceleration rate... hmm.

I look at FSD and stop signs the way a new EV driver looks are regen braking. "Oh, it does that? I don't like that.' Then we just get used to modulating the car's behavior with our right foot.

HOV lane bug still in V12

This is the type of thing for which I think we will eventually need national standards. Fonts, font sizes, colors, and shapes of signs are (I think) already standardized.

HOV lane bug still in V12

Maybe where you live, but not in Phoenix. Most of the HOV lanes inside the city (all?) have a wide white separating line. Some places have double (solid) white lines. I have issues crossing both. AZ doesn't have the restricted entry/exit areas for getting in or out of an HOV lane...

HOV lane bug still in V12

I've had HOV issues in Phoenix all along (2023 MYP). Since I'm still running 11.4.9 on the highway, I'm not expecting things to be different. But I did send three disengagement reports about it yesterday in the hope of spurring some action there. I have 'Use HOV Lane' enabled.

    Is FSD 12.3.4 Being Pushed

2023 MYP. Kept checking all day, then about 8pm a notification popped up on my phone about 2024.3.15 availability. FSD 12.3.4 seems the only change.
  44. P

Why does the nav system do this?

2023 MYP, 2024.3.15 and FSD 12.3.4. To test new FSD versions, I do a short loop drive from my house to a Subway store and back. 4-5 miles one way. Here's the thing. My Nav routes me there just fine, using the 'back roads'. (Four lane urban road, but 'back road' because an Interstate runs a...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

My 12.3.4 is downloading now. Hope to see some improvement going in and out of my gated community, better stop sign behavior, and better lane choices. I have a test loop to compare new with old versions. I don't really look at FSD as a robotaxi to take me places while I fall asleep. I think...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Off topic - how do you go about reporting issues to Google? I'm wondering if there is a way I can report the back gate to my neighborhood as an out-only gate. There is no keypad, and it's the shortest way into the neighborhood. For years Google has directed cars in this way, only to be stuck...

    Lower Subscription Price Coming?

I was suspicious about this news, so I checked my FSD subscription in the Tesla app, and sure enough! I had been paying $199/mo, but the next renewal (May 7) shows up as $99 now. So I got the free month trial (Apr 7-May 7), and now a big price drop. Happy camper here. I feel a whole lot...
