Forming an LLC (or S Corp) to lease (yes, lease)

I’ve never done this, so I cannot comment on your plan specifically. Make sure you are aware of all the reporting requirements for an LLC. Make sure you understand the tax implications. Make sure you are prepared to file quarterly estimated payments if you expect to make money and/or have your...

Anyone received the TCEQ $2500 Grant Money for buying an EV in Texas?

Apparently I had already signed it as part of my original packet that I submitted. The email I received made it fairly clear that I didn’t have any additional steps to complete (but I’ll go back and re-read it tomorrow to make sure). If you’re worried, I’d reach out to them via email or phone...

    Homelink retrofit install failure

I've never seen any indication that it does, and they've never highlighted it as a feature that I'm aware of. Other vehicles that I've owned that supported it have all mentioned it as a feature, but I've also never used an opener that actually supported it.

    Homelink retrofit install failure

I have never had a garage door that supported the version 5 “is it open or not” features. Basically all of mine (including gate controllers where open/closed would be super handy) are entirely dumb “get signal open door” devices.

Anyone received the TCEQ $2500 Grant Money for buying an EV in Texas?

I received the executed contract today. I had nothing additional to sign, as far as I can tell, and am now simply waiting for payment. The date of acceptance was listed as the 29th, though I got the email today. They say between 60 and 90 days for the payments team to send it to me.

    It has changed since then.

    Homelink retrofit install failure

So they are installable, and some people say that Service+ doesn't work. So there is more going on here than what is immediately evident to us. I wish Tesla would just go ahead and publish their policy on this.

Anyone received the TCEQ $2500 Grant Money for buying an EV in Texas?

I got an email back on this. I had to review my application for specific dates, apparently I submitted the final version on December 1 2023. They informed me that I have passed review and moved into the Contract Phase, but that they are experiencing extremely high volumes so wait times would be...

I emailed them this morning, I'll report back.

Anyone received the TCEQ $2500 Grant Money for buying an EV in Texas?

Interesting, I applied (and received an acknowledgement for that application) before some people who got the grant agreement sent to them. Doesn't mean anything, obviously, but that isn't exactly how I thought it would work given how they described it (I think they described FIFO).

I haven't heard anything from them since I initially submitted my application. I might call next week and check in.

MY 2024 Refresh - Project Juniper?

It's not like the Highland stuff, that was well leaked and very obvious what they were working on. The MY is their best selling vehicle by a fair margin, they are going to spend a while refining everything before they consider messing with their volume leader.

    When to Replace 12v?

Fair point about it being less true. And temperature changes can have a pretty dramatic impact too. A battery that will start just fine when it’s 75F might not when it’s 15F!
  14. A

    When to Replace 12v?

I think one thing that really hurts EVs with the 12v battery issue is that ICE cars tend to give you some indication that the battery is failing. You know, generally, that it’s taking a little longer to turn over than usual, that something isn’t working exactly right. Now, that’s not all the...

    Homelink retrofit install failure

They had removed the remote install option for late 2023 cars as well. I called Tesla to whine about that, and they told me that I could just “request service” and add the HomeLink and say I wanted it done at home (instead of buying it through the store and scheduling). I did just that, and no...

Supercharger - Alpine, TX - South Cockrell Street

I’m curious, I hope to get down to that charger sometime in the next couple months and it’ll be interesting to see how the pedestals hold up.

    Homelink retrofit install failure

Honestly, if you can wait, I’d wait until the next software release just in case it’s a bug with the current firmware. I take anything Tesla tells me with a grain of salt, especially if what they are telling me helps them sell more random stuff.

    Homelink retrofit install failure

I cannot verify any bit of this, but am just relaying what a mobile service technician told me in November of 2023. When having my HomeLink installed I mentioned that I had considered doing it myself. He showed me how to do it and was generally really helpful and said that at that time it was...

Supercharger - Alpine, TX - South Cockrell Street

I suspect that it's for other non-tesla vehicles. I haven't seen a "pretty" parking solution that doesn't eat an extra charger stall yet for some of those cars.

    AP and FSD stack merge?

That was sort of what spurred the question. I know that it’s all hype, but the talk that v12 is the version to “exit beta” got me thinking about the future once they’re out of their initial push to get it out of beta.
  21. A

    AP and FSD stack merge?

Let me preface by saying that I’m well aware that this thread will be entirely speculation, unless someone with ”Insider Info” decides to get fired for some reason. The question is: do people expect to see the AP stack and the FSD stack merge? Right now they are entirely separate, but it makes...

Can Y open garage door without myQ?

What makes disabling HomeLink (and I would assume, then, all RF signals to the garage door opener besides WiFi) more secure?

Can Y open garage door without myQ?

Both the Tesla Mobile and phone support people told me never to use the auto close feature. Not “hinted I shouldn’t” or “warned me off”. No, straight up told me “don’t use that feature”.

Anyone received the TCEQ $2500 Grant Money for buying an EV in Texas?

There was a lot of misinformation about it too. I saw people claim you had to buy through a dealer in order to qualify, but the actual documentation doesn’t say that. I also saw people claim that the Model Y didn’t qualify, even though it’s specifically listed in the allowed vehicle list. Even...

2023 Y 2300 miles - no cameras, autopilot or gps

My understanding is that they cannot downgrade the software, so what you are seeing is probably the new computer’s factory firmware version.

Supercharger - Alpine, TX - South Cockrell Street

How long does it take for the navigation to suggest using it? I did a test routing to see what it would look like (on my phone, so don’t know about in car nav) and it doesn’t suggest using that charger, even for a round trip from Midland. It still thinks I should drive way out of my to use the...

Very exciting! This makes trips from Midland/Odessa a lot less annoying logistically.

MY 2024 Refresh - Project Juniper?

The volumes of S and X cars is minuscule in comparison to the Y though. It takes a bit for the true believers to sort out of the Tesla buying curve as well, so immediate sales won’t tell us much.
  33. A

MY 2024 Refresh - Project Juniper?

I really hope they think twice before removing turn signals on the Y. I know they’re all into it right now, but I’m hoping that if they take long enough to get to the Y then they’ll just skip that design mistake.

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

What it does have (or had) is the Creep/Roll/Hold features. Creep/Roll latch modes would definitely impact range testing.
  35. A

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-customers-pending-orders-reconfigure-deadline/ The above article indicates that Tesla stated in the emails that it was an EPA change (on top of the "comfort" functions, which could just mean anything, including parts swaps, interior lighting, or just about anything).
  36. A

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

You won’t convince him with that. And anyway, Tesla will never say publicly outside of leaks (which is where yahoo finance says they got their data, second hand). This conversation is meaningless until someone gets one of the cars and actually figures out what the pack part number is. That’s...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

lol, I love that we've gotten to the end of this and the answer is "who knows". I haven't seen any reports of MY orders getting an email saying they need to change their order (though I suppose they could just still be coming). They also announced that Creep/Roll is going away for new cars...

Model Y 2024 new range estimates

Tesla has stated it’s due to EPA change. There is no way they are using the CATL batteries because they still qualify for the tax credit and a Chinese built battery pack would not qualify.

2023 Y 2300 miles - no cameras, autopilot or gps

2023 Y 2300 miles - no cameras, autopilot or gps

Last time I drove the car it took about 3 seconds for the backup camera to come on once I'd put the car in reverse (I only freaked out a little bit, lol), but it came on and stayed on. I didn't have the issue on my return drive. Optimistic it was just a weird vehicle initialization issue that...

    Windshield Wipers

While I don't dispute the fact of it, I find this answer so immensely unsatisfying. The wiper controls are terrible on the Tesla, and it's doubly silly because my personal feeling is that they got pretty much every other aspect of the controls for the 2023 Y pretty perfect. Obviously that's my...

    FSD visualization after trial

It's cool but not that useful, certainly not worth 200 a month! I really do wish they'd roll EAP up into basic AP though, the features are sorely lacking in EAP and AP would be miles more useful with lane change features.

2023 Y 2300 miles - no cameras, autopilot or gps

To update my own problems. I had a drive where the rear camera didn't work after updating to 2023.44.30.6, a reboot did not fix the issue. I checked the car once I was at my destination and sentry mode had come on but couldn't show me any cameras anymore. I turned off sentry mode remotely...

    Windshield Wipers

Yeah, sometimes Tesla gets into a "re-invent the wheel because it's there" mentality and you can really see it with the wiper controls. Once I spent a little time with the wiper controls I got a lot more ok with how they worked, but I'll admit that I have always been one of those people who...

light press the wiper button (left stick in the USA) and then use the left scroll wheel, not up and down but rocking side to side. so, press wiper button once and then rock the left control wheel left or right, this will adjust the wiper speed.

2023 Y 2300 miles - no cameras, autopilot or gps

Well, my November 2023 delivered MYLR started exhibiting this problem this morning after being fine for quite a while. 2023.44.30.6. Model Y Parcel Shelf Official Retrofit?

Yes, the one I saw in the demo LR I drove in Houston was different than the one present in my delivery LR in November. I have a similar issue with it being somewhat difficult to put stuff underneath it, especially all the way at the back by the seats. The shelf part, however, is great. It adds a...

2023 Y 2300 miles - no cameras, autopilot or gps

This is anecdotal but: On reddit some people said that this issue appeared for them as soon as they downloaded the 2023.44.30.2, 2023.44.30.3, 2023.44.30.4 updates, but was resolved with 2023.44.30.6. Good luck all.
