Plaid S or Highland Model 3 Performance

I had read about the brakes on the Plaid before I got one. Ice cold brakes can get ABS working at 100+ stops, the limit of stopping is traction not brakes. They are good for 2 to 3 stops in a row at high speeds, after that they might fade. Even doing that on the street is high risk and you...

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

I can get the ABS to engage instantly at 100+ mph on stock brake pads, until the pads overheat after repeated stops, better brakes wont stop the Plaid any faster, but stickier tires would indeed.

    Plaid 19 vs 21

I agree, I think the stock pads are best for street use. I drive around and hardly use the brakes at all, rely on regenerative braking. Then at a light or from a roll, you wind up next to a Z06 or other performance car. If you go for it, 70 mph+ as we all know happens in no time at all. You then...

    Plaid Sport Bucket Seats

It depends on the lumbar support, how much can you adjust it and the side supports, are they adjustable? The current plaid seats don't have enough low back support even with the lumbar adjustment. I would need to sit in these seats and see how they feel along with adjustments to make a decision...

    FSD experience

I am glad you like it. I am more cautious and much more ready to take over in traffic or in town situations. It feels more like I should just drive it myself anyway. I personally think the safety features like looking away, being on your phone, hand off the wheel should be part of the standard...

    FSD experience

I never look at my phone normally, I am aware of the risk but was on a long drive on the freeway at cruising speed. If tesla wanted to be safer, they should have the watch feature while in normal use, not just FSD. Policing non FSD modes would make the driver behave better and safer, non FSD...

    FSD experience

In FSD, if I look down at my phone and text or check emails, or have my phone next to my ear talking, I get a warning to pay attention in the screen. I got booted out of FSD a few times for this. It seems like in FSD, it would be a safer time to check your phone. In regular driving without FSD...

    Plaid 19 vs 21

I agree, I have a 2024 Plaid, 2,000 miles now. In the first 50 miles, the car did not stop well. I went through a bed in cycle and that changed how the brakes behave, much better now. I have spent a fair amount of time in race cars on race tracks, some that require great brakes like Road...

    The optimal suspension settings

Full soft more adjusts how it feels over big bumps, less harsh. The bouncy feeling comes from not enough shock rebound force, full sport gets you more rebound control. I run lowest soft and highest sport like a post above and 38 PSI, still experimenting but it seems to be best for now, rides...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I have had my 24 Plaid with 19s for 6 weeks, love the car. I have had a number of very fast cars, drag cars, road race cars, street cars, etc, nothing accelerates in an instant like the Plaid. How it actually hooks up on street tires is amazing, the traction control is world class. My only...

    32amp Vs 48amp?

I like the name, I went with Thuderball:)

MS Plaid Dragy Testing, Tires, Tire Pressure etc

You have traction issues, a faster 60 ft by a few tenths will gain twice as much in time at the end. Trap speed of 148 is pretty good, and I would bet with more traction you might pick up a few MPH because of more power allowed and trap at 150+.
  13. K

    Bouncy Suspension Model S

I am running in advanced, highest sport mode that helps the rebound control and bounces, lowest comfort, that helps over bumps with a better ride. I lowered to 38 PSI and its much smoother now. 24 Plaid/19s. It doesn't feel a lot different on corners either. I go back and forth thinking Tesla...

    Show of hands… Adaptive Suspension

I am more convinced now after 2 weeks of ownership and 400 miles that the issue with ride quality is damper related. I say that because I started out at 45 PSI, and have since tried pressures as high as 49 and now back down to 40. The ride is not much different. Adding or subtracting pressure...

    Show of hands… Adaptive Suspension

Static spring rates, meaning just the springs alone, I know its an air suspension, it does not feel way too stiff or way too soft to me. There are many years of automotive experience baked into spring rates versus the weight of the vehicle and COG location. I think it is close enough, Tesl can't...
  16. K

    Show of hands… Adaptive Suspension

That is basically correct based on my observations, I have spent a ton of time on race tracks with adjustable bump and rebound settings in various cars. Some low speed bump force in the front shocks is needed, that helps the initial response on turn in, so it doesn't feel like the front end is...

    anyone traded from 21" to 19" ?

I have the 19s on a plaid, it is pretty stiff even on a softer suspension setting. I wouldn't want less side wall and a stiffer ride.
  18. K

    Show of hands… Adaptive Suspension

I have had a new S plaid for a week. The car seems too harsh over bumps and then wallows before it settles down in comfort or auto setting. This is my opinion: The harshness is from too much high speed bump force in the shock valving. Even in lowest comfort setting it is still too much. The car...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I put the first 100 miles on the Plaid, car was perfect other than one scratch on a mirror which they are fixing this week. The car rides plenty stiff for me on the 19s, I would not want 20's or 21's, that would make the car even more stiff. The cornering is flat due to low CG even though its a...

Picked up my MSP today, one scratch on mirror they are replacing, other than that body panels are aligned. I need to get used to the car, first EV. I have been in a ton of fast cars and spent a ton of time at drag strips and road courses, it is insane fast for sure and so effortless:)

Pick my plaid up Tuesday, I'll post pics. Part of me thinks they bump prices up a little to clean out 2023 inventory, longer term I think prices are going down for the S.

I wonder how a 2024 shows up in inventory for sale, surely there is a buyer waiting for that exact car. If it were a new 2023 it would make more sense.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I think Tesla is more likely to lower prices some more on the S and X. They will gain market share and drive revenue by lowering prices. This could hurt margins short term but long term, more repeat buyers will stay with the brand.

The way the stock is acting and with numbers coming out soon, I wouldn't be surprised if they lower prices again to get sales and inventory moving.

    Macsboost vs N2itive

Static camber is too much in the rear of the S compared to many other performance cars. Using the shims or N2 to reduce camber is the first step. With that you should get better tire wear and better straight line acceleration because of more grip. You could loose some cornering grip in the rear...

  40. K

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

They are by keeping us all in the dark, like letting a buyer know when the 2024s will be released, what is so hard about that? Transparency would be good for Tesla as well.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

What is a drastic difference in resale value? 1k, 2k or 5k? Its January 10th 2024, if I take delivery today, I want a 2024 or if its a 2023, give me a discount. Tesla can't have it both ways and leave us all in the dark. This is why people are passing on 2023s right now. Tesla could raise the...

Plaid obliterates Sapphire in 3 back to back 1/4 mile runs

Thats not what I said, given same MPH, the best the Lucid can do is equal to the plaid unless it can cut a lower 60 ft time, which is unlikely. The Plaid has traction control better figured out, the Lucid does not. Ive probably logged 1,000 passes at the drag strip in various vehicles.
  43. K

Plaid obliterates Sapphire in 3 back to back 1/4 mile runs

Lucid isn't running 8.9 unless it can get traction figured out in a big way, meaning better than the Plaid. What the results told me is that the Pliad has traction control figured out better than a lucid, so from a stop light in the real world, the Plaid will own the Lucid. If its a punch race...

Plaid obliterates Sapphire in 3 back to back 1/4 mile runs

MPH=HP to weight ratio. The Plaid and the Lucid running the same MPH means the HP/weight ratio is the same. the 1/4 mile difference is traction.
  45. K

No vin posted, not sure its a 2024.....
  46. K

Plaid obliterates Sapphire in 3 back to back 1/4 mile runs

The trap speeds are almost exactly the same, meaning, in a rolling race, its a dead heat if both cars get traction. It would appear that Tesla traction control works better off the line, they switched lanes, crappy track conditions.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I agree and ordered the 19s, will ride better too. But, better cornering would generally be with a wider tire and less side wall flex, the 21s should have more grip. This isn't always the case if the tires are too stiff for the chassis or if the corners are bumpy. A skid pad or lap times is the...
