The "End of Quarter" Waiting Room / Buying Guide

That's exactly what I was thinking. The time to retool is when demand is low and inventory is high.

Anyone use the OEM front license plate holder?

Exactly. When someone is actively in violation of the law by driving on public streets then they are subject to reprimand, and NO OTHER TIME OR PLACE. Nice that you've caught up finally, Goober.

ucmndd You're both useless and bitter? What a wretched state of being. I hope you develop thicker skin one day, followed by being useful.

    Snippiness 2.0

It's the 17th now... I'm seeing discounts on inventory ranging from $100 to $1,000 on the 5 available vehicles in the PDX area. Again, happy to have bought in March. Your thoughtless comment added nothing to the thread, so it's OT by default.

The "End of Quarter" Waiting Room / Buying Guide

Inventory is way less in the PDX area compared to March. I'm thankful to have purchased the 7-seater then, because there's only 1 in inventory at the moment, and it appears it can't be ordered anymore. There's currently no discounts on inventory. I don't expect the Monday deals to be that...

MODEL Y awd towed without dollies

That's a small miracle right there. Police had my car towed once because my license was "invalid". It was on a Friday just after "business hours", so they got hundreds over the weekend in "storage fees" sitting in the uncovered gravel lot. $500 to get my $500 car out. The driving with an...

My garage door closed while I was was backing out of my garage and damaged tesla

It's unfortunate many of us learn this the hard way, as it should be more "common knowledge" that gets disseminated to everyone. I've had the garage door close on a company car and scratch the bumper, so the first thing I did when I got the Tesla as a personal vehicle was to adjust the sensors...

Falling out of love with my Model Y AWD - Sell or Keep

Cagers are appliances meant to perform the utility they are designed for. The motorcycle is for fun. Seems like you enjoy new vehicle experiences, so spend your money however it makes you happiest.

    Punctured tire/question

I find it more difficult when deflated, because the tread then moves with the tool, robbing some of your energy when reaming or inserting the plug. You might even run into the wheel with the ream tool unless you go at an angle. The air pressure trying to force the tools out is insignificant...

    Punctured tire/question

Apparently I forgot to share my flat experience here... Recently, my wife arrived at work at 8:30 am, the Tesla app notified at 9:11 am "Air pressure in the front right tire very low. Check for flat tire before driving". We hadn't owned it a month yet. Arrived and found the Tesla with a...

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

I'm not leaving this alone. You've got @ucmndd disagreeing with something I've said, while not giving the courteously to enlighten us ignorant folk on where we've gone wrong, and @boulder.dude trying to get folks to "think past the sale" by presuming Tesla made a grievous error in personnel...

... the directive to reduce staff, and senior management being insubordinate. What you got? The thing is, individuals aren't entitled to be employed by particular employers, and employers aren't entitled to particular individuals. Do you understand how that's a fair relationship? You could win...

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

Hiring back a few talented people isn't an indication of a "mistake". Twitter had 7,000 employees when Musk bought it, and now has something like 1,500. If he kept a couple people previously fired, then that's not an indication that drastic staffing reductions was a mistake. The point of a...

    Texas heat

I dislike moon roofs 345 days out of the year, because it's either raining, not the right temperature, or too noisy to open. The main problem is some cars don't have enough headroom when equipped with the moon roof option. Would rather just pay a little less to not have it. At any rate, I find...

    Texas heat

Good question. My initial thought was to park a car without the roof glass next to the Tesla and see how temperatures rise as the sun comes out. Then I'm thinking I should just use the Tesla on separate days, taking measurements with and without something like cardboard covering the roof...

    Texas heat

I'm going to test this assertion, as it doesn't seem to agree with my anecdotal experience so far. The Tesla seems much warmer sitting in the sun than previous cars, and this is still in cooler springtime weather where temperatures are in the 50s and 60s. There have been 55 degree days where the...

    Front license plate holder

I got this and installed it a month ago... but DMV hasn't sent me plates yet so I can't fully comment. Seems sturdy enough for daily use, but I would be hesitant to take it through a normal car wash. Fortunately the local wash is touchless. Amazon.com

Took the car on a 20 mile journey to a highway and the nearest Tesla dealership in an attempt to calibrate the retarded cameras. I appreciate the response and attention to safety. That said, you don't know anyone who has died from a tire plug failure. You don't know anyone who knows someone who died of a tire plug failure. We're going to die like everyone else; from heart disease or cancer. Anyone who is fearful of a...

    Punctured tire/question

Who experiences "a blowout" due to a failed repair? The only time I've experienced "a blowout" is when my car is hurtling through the air, or otherwise smashing violently into obstacles only maniacs hit. Worst case, the repair is insufficient, causing a gradual reduction in pressure...

I spent $15 on PPF and $15 on ceramic coating. I figure a bit of elbow grease and $30 is worth the experiment anyhow.

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

Juniper is supposed to reduce cost, which should at minimum hold price. Price is subject to market forces as always. What is the price of a Tesla vs the price of other competition, and the perceived value of each.

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

Do the ends justify the means? There's a good chance that Tesla would be Acrimoto if unrealistic optimism and unlikely timelines weren't employed. The example I always give is that Elon says FSD (a misnomer for sure) is bargain priced now for the early adopters, but will increase in price in...

Slow L2 Charging on Emporia EVSE

I've been snaking the charging cord out from the 30A dryer outlet in the washroom to charge the Tesla, and earlier today it was charging at the 24A limit I set. After plugging in again, it's limiting itself to 5kW. I'm using an Emporia 60A EVSE with a NEMA 14-50 to NEMA 14-30 adaptor. Any ideas...

Anyone use the OEM front license plate holder?

Exactly backwards. If the state accuses someone of something, it's incumbent on the state to provide evidence. It's perfectly legal to not have insurance in Oregon for a car not driven on public roads. They're the ones the suck, and they suck hard.

Model Y - vehicle 4 weeks old already 2 tire punctures - warranty coverage?

I'd probably put 2 plugs into that and see how it held up. Maybe I'd see if Les Schwab would patch it. You're the tire guy though, so I can see you shaking your head at me now. ... I did use double plugs once when a rock punctured a tire while Christmas tree hunting. Rather than monkey around...

I don't know how involved you're willing to get, but I've been using 32700 7.2Ah LiFePO4 cells that can be had for around $4 each (if you order a bunch) from Aliexpress. I've got no idea if that ends up being cheaper than purchasing completed batteries. Probably not worth the headache of...

    Model Y Nitpick Thread

I thought charging below freezing was an issue for all chemistries. Apparently some handle it better? I assumed Tesla had a heater for the low voltage battery, but you're saying it doesn't? I place mine in the glove box to keep it from freezing temperatures, or in the case of the Prius, the...

    Model Y Nitpick Thread

That's a great explanation for those unfamiliar with cell voltages and low voltage architecture. I'm more curious why they didn't go with 4s LiFePO4 to bring the voltages very close to standard ~13.3-14.4v in cars with lead acid batteries? They're theoretically more durable and safer. It's the...

    Punctured tire/question

My comments are often rhetorical to the OP, but meant for the larger audience. That said, I still encourage people to at least try their own repair considering how frequently punctures occur, and how simple it is to recover from it. Worst case they wasted 10 minutes and $2 on a tire repair kit.

    Model Y Protection

Where in Oregon are you driving 300 miles to pick up a vehicle? That's like corner to corner. What's this $7,500 Oregon rebate? The DEQ website advertised $2,500; or $5,000 if you're low income (generally precluding the federal tax subsidy).

I got a ticket for expired plates while parked in San Diego. Haven't been on long straight roads. I need to spend some time on I-5 it seems. It was raining fairly heavily Saturday, and I gave it minutes to activate, but it never did. Finally I manually triggered the wipers and continued to do so throughout the drive. At some point it activated...

    Model Y Nitpick Thread

Way cheaper, though switching insurance always saves a ton because of rate-creep. Geico was billing me $83/mo for liability only insurance on a 2006 Acura TSX. Tesla full coverage is $99/mo with roadside assistance (which was just a few cents a month). I'm sure Tesla will increase the rate...

I've seen others on the forum reporting 1,000 miles to calibrate, so I'm not concerned. Apparently it wants a straight freeway to quickly calibrate, and there's only backcountry roads around here. The mirrors are a very minor complaint given the backup cameras and overlay of obstacles in the...

Anyone use the OEM front license plate holder?

I just installed a cheap holder from Amazon, though I don't have plates from DMV yet. It blocks a small portion of the grill, but it won't cause any overheating problems, I'm confident. Cooling systems are always over-engineered to account for the guy pulling a 3,000 lb trailer up a hill at 80...

2024 US model Y rwd battery type and size

That seems to suggest you have the long range battery then, right? This data point conflicts with your prior observation that the car wouldn't pull more than 160 kW. As far as I know, we still cannot conclude anything about what battery the 2024 RWD has.
