    Screens go dead

It has been happening to my car a couple times a week since delivery September 2020. Been through a lot of firmwares since then and it happened to all of them.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

On June 23. I ordered a Model S but still no VIN has been assigned. Is this expected? It said August delivery but I guess that might not happen as I live in Norway.

Performance increase for 100D. 0-100 in 3,3 sek

Probably because it's an error and it never will be that fast. It looks to be confirmed wrong for other cars too: 75 and 75D variants increased performance from July 1st - software and hardware improvements?

75 and 75D variants increased performance from July 1st - software and hardware improvements?

rsan: As Bullet1 just posted a 3.0 sec run with a new 75D, wouldn't you agree that Powertools does not seem trustworthy? Or it really just shows that the comparison you and he did actually confirms a 1 seconds difference between new and old cars?

Stop the Press! Tesla announces REAL HP numbers for P85D and P90L

stopcrazypp: If you want higher acceleration you don't want higher gearing, but lower. I don't think it's a misunderstanding about electric motors, gearing is a concept that works with every kind of motor. For maximum acceleration you want to use the lowest possible gear until the torque...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

There is clearly a need for some bulletpoints of actual facts of what you claim above JER. I would figure that claims on the buyers contract made without asteriks or any other sort of explanation is one of them. Free upgrades because of a "yes" on an australian tv-show or a non-scripted...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

Actually Tesla used to have a note that the horsepower was measured according to ECE R85, which seems to be the EV norm for stating hp (BMW uses it as well). It would be interesting to know why they removed it. I agree with stopcrazypop. It would probably only be usable as an argument against...

Calling P85D owners world-wide for survey and complaint letter

I agree, but Tesla didn't say faster. They said AWD is better than RWD: "We combined our new front drive unit and our P85 rear motor with the objective of outperforming one of the greatest supercars of all time, the McLaren F1. With P85D’s 0 to 60 mph performance of 3.2 seconds, we have...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

No, you can't feel it. It's not the same thing. Try telling someone to tighten a screw using horsepower instead of torque as a measurement. Torque is a measurment of force, horsepower is a measurment of power. Edit: These kind of uneducated responses pops up on almost every single page. If all...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

When you are talking about measuring acceleration such as 70-90mph between cars you would of course make sure the turbo is spooled up and you are in the right gear, hence the RS7 would be fast. In between the engine and the tires you have gearing. What you feel when you accelerate is the torque...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

No, I'm absolutely not confusing power and torque, that would be you by the way you phrased your other text. I also see how conveniently your chart stops where the power drops at 75mph. You were referring to 70-90mph where the TMS is sub-optimal without gearing. With gearing that power would be...
  19. L

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

Wrong. Apples and oranges. You are ignoring the fact that the TMS has no gears. Even if it had 691hp the torque fades of well before even 50mph. The RS7 has gears which enables it to deliver optimum power at 70-90mph, something the TMS never will.

Calling P85D owners world-wide for survey and complaint letter

Neither the P85D press release or Elons speech mentioned horsepower or 691hp in October. Elon even specifically kept it short and only said 50% more torque and better acceleration. Marketing somehow got ahead of engineering and added up the front motor and the rear motor horsepower. Why Elon...

Well, that is exactly the problem, it used to be listed under options/specifications, hence my screenshot from the owners manual which was the only thing I could still find. It doesn't mean the information is false as it once was there and the P85D and P85 is well known for having the same...

Calling P85D owners world-wide for survey and complaint letter

I'm not saying it's still there, but now they state "motor power" and 221hp+470hp. It used to be under options/specifications. Search for "ECE R85" in your owners manual and you will see what Tesla means by "motor power"

Calling P85D owners world-wide for survey and complaint letter

When Tesla put up 691hp on teslamotors.com there was a note which said "** Tested in accordance with ECE R85. This dyno based test does not take the battery into account." Why would you still think the car would be able to dyno 691hp with the 85kW battery?
  28. L

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

But you are both assuming there is no base cost of making the car move from standstill, which I believe is wrong. You can probably calculate a percentwise cost of drivetrain loss as energylevel through it rises, but there is still some initial momentum needed (drivetrain resistance) to make it...
  29. L

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

Heh, you can't math your way out of it. If you have two sets of mechanical drivetrains it would need twice the power to make it spin. Think about how this works if you split the car in half. On top of that you have the added weight of the D through the frontmotor compared to only RWD.
  30. L

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

The P85D has 2x drivetrain loss through AWD. Hence it has to use more batterypower to generate the same power at the wheels.

    P85D and P90D horsepower disagreement

I find the gear ratio, front vs rear, to be just as interesting. Why can't anyone obtain these? Does the 85D have the same front and rear ratio as the P85D? As the front motor in P85D is smaller (221hp) than the 85D (262hp), the 85D would be faster in high speed acceleration if the gear ratio is...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

Which is the point of the whole thread? You can have either 221 + some of the 470, or the other way around. Not 221 plus 470 at the same time.
  35. L

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

The Tesla website is no longer saying 691hp, only 221 hp front, 470 hp rear motor power.

    85D 0-60 MPH 4.4s Sport Acceleration confirmed

The P85 was actually rated at 476 in Europe, which should be 470 in US, which in turn is the same as the rear engine in the P85D. This makes sense as Tesla is saying P85D rear engine in the same as P85.

What does "...improve P85D performance at high speed..." mean?

You seriously think that this test is done right? The Hellcat uses 17,4 sec and does only 82mph for 1/4 mile? Even the P85 makes 12,4 sec and is 0,8 slower than the P85D. With the same grip as P85D the Hellcat should be doing it in 10,8 and 126mph - SRT Hellcat Challenger 1/4 Mile 10.8 w/ Drag...

What does "...improve P85D performance at high speed..." mean?

Motortrend tested both P85 and P85D in 1/4 mile drag and the difference was 0,8sec in favor of P85D (115mph vs 110mph). As we already know the P85D is about 1 second faster in 0-60mph races so the P85D has to be the about the same speed in high speed acceleration. The big rear engine is the same...
