Tesla Wall charger on a "50 amp circuit"

When is the last time you saw a 14-50 receptacle with a nameplate ? The breaker is not 'derated' for the EVSE load Each to their own, but I don't plan to leave my WC to the next owner. I'll cap the wires and put them in a j-box.

    Energy Sector News

I don't doubt for a second the basic premise that the sooner we stop burning the better off we all will be, but I suspect that the news article is slightly overstating the savings since it must presume an earlier transition than 2050, using less inflated money

    I'm Confused by Version Control

Thank you -- I'm catching on a bit It does not surprise me that those who have paid for FSD would be on the fast track of improvements. And perhaps the other thing in play is that Tesla does not want unintended consequences of their most recent UI updates to affect FSD. I view this through the...

    I'm Confused by Version Control

I still haven't tracked down my FSD version but I've learned that the 2024.3 branch is receiving the V12 FSD software. Very non-obvious to me at least that a branch with a more recent version UI software version number would not include the latest FSD

    I'm Confused by Version Control

Hi Folks, I've been swept up by the hype of FSD 12.3-ish and would like to see what the fuss is about. I peeked into my Tesla phone app, and also went through screens in my car. I can tell that I am on v11.1 (2024.8.7) 2024.8.7 is very new, while if v11.1 is the FSD I am way behind current...

Question for home charging install - wire size

Ah yes ... about that solution. If the breaker is sized to the smaller wire then fine. Otherwise, the tap rules come into play. See 240.4 towards the end I'm a huge fan of sub-panels but a tap with a fuse disconnect before the hardwired EVSE is not bad

Question for home charging install - wire size

Yes. I know this thread is dead -- I'm only adding for other readers in the future I would have focused on two things with the builder: 1. Bring the feeder to where I want and at a height I want. Emphasis on feeder here -- 4 wire 2. Leave enough wire in the J-box to easily install a sub-panel...

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

By no means an expert, I'm under the impression that even 4 stall EA locations have two 350 kW and two 150 kW, for a total of 1 MW power. I'm pretty sure Tesla can figure out a use for that power. Perhaps 72 kW destination chargers for people without L2 at home

Confusion on keeping the charge limit at 100% and charge fully once per week

I live in a 4 season climate. We own a chevy Bolt and lease a Model Y. Both are parked outside. Both have charge limits set to ~ 80%, and it is rare for SoC to drop below 25%. If it does, we do not let the car sit at that SoC. In the cold winter and hot summer the Bolt is plugged in whenever it...

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

The first Teslas for the most part did not last 13 years, they are 13 years old and plugging along. And while there have been regressions along the way, Tesla battery tech is way better now than when Tesla started out. I really do not have any doubts that in general, Tesla batteries outlast the car

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

I imagine that scenario is rare after warranty lapse, and view it as a good candidate for insurance. advice on extended warranty

Fair enough, although I'll still contend that the ESA 'made sense' for you as an outlier owner. The flip side is that the ESA seller better hope that not too many drivers in their pool of insured are like you or they are going BK.
  26. SageBrush

    advice on extended warranty

Yeah. I'll give fair odds that you track your car, which is an excellent example of why anecdotes are just not useful for people trying to decide whether to buy an ESA. Does an ESA allow track use, or are such owners escaping notice of the terms of use ?

Anyone with an older S that purchased the Extended Warranty - Trying to determine when it expires

If car mileage is 1,000,000 miles at the end of the new car warranty, does the ESA extend the mileage to 1,050,000 ? If it does, then I'm inclined to think that a new car with 10,000 miles at end of the new car warranty would be warrantied out to 60,000 miles with an ESA. Mostly, I have to...

pre conditioning for non-tesla charging stations

If you use cabin heating on those days where pre-conditioning occurs, the net hit to your driving time and range is not large. This is true because each case uses electricity converted to heat. The difference is time shifting, and some efficiency differences

pre conditioning for non-tesla charging stations

I was thinking about this because I have a midpoint charging stop on an upcoming trip that may not be listed, and I suspect the battery will still be cold upon arrival. Russia/Ukraine conflict

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

My gut reaction (READ: only speculation) is that the CATL equipment is prior generation. Apparently good enough for what Tesla wants to use it for. I'm not sure, but it might end up being the same result via substitution if it enables more domestic pack production to go into EV production
