this quote is 100% accurate. adding any more solar than 1.0kw will bump you out of grandfathered status. just adding battery (or less than 1.0kw) should not. this should be true regardless of what battery you use.

the reason this happens is because you have people (like those in this thread) that think us noting this stuff as important is "funny." elon thrives on being worshipped like that, so he doesn't care about making sure stuff actually works before pushing updates.

the infuriating thing about this one in particular is that it did work, then when they broke it it took them over a year to fix it and it was only resolved for six months until they broke it again.

if tesla put procedures in place to stop breaking existing features with seemingly every other random update, that would also “get rid of threads like this.”

unless i missed something, you can recalibrate the cameras without reinstalling software. there’s a button in service mode for it.

does reinstalling from the service mode reinstall the existing version or one that is already downloaded? i.e. could i do it myself if i have the glass installed by safelite? i’m aware what i have is older than the recalls, but since they can’t hire competent software engineers and release...

i've thought about that, but i've seen horror stories about safelite replacing the model 3 windshield. that plus the fact that they're $800 more expensive than tesla directly made it a no-brainer to just go to tesla direct...yes, insurance is paying for most of it, but that still seems insane to me.

you can, they can use a random VIN from an inventory or loaner car. that's how they quoted it to me two years ago when i did the mod originally (i ended up getting it on ebay instead, but that's how service got around the VIN requirement).

@jr73 exactly this. the hole is easily visible once the panel covers are off. you just tuck the wire under the trunk weatherstripping and then run it from there up to the tuner thru that hole.

i just doubled up the thermal paste on the chips that don’t make contact with the bump in the case. i reused the existing blue pads.

it's hilarious to me that after this was broken (and fixed) at least once before, they're still trying to blame the customers for it by doing stupid stuff like trying reboots and 12v disconnects, which are obviously not going to fix anything. it's a software issue. their software engineers...

if it’s like last time, it’ll be a while. it took them almost a year to fix it the last time they broke it (was already broken when i did the swap in aug 2022, finally was fixed in july i think)

that's probably because although your phone doesn't work, there's enough limited service for the car to continue loading one song at a time as it goes. if you're trying to stream something like SXM which is a live continuous stream vs one song at a time, you'd probably have different results...
