Model 3 Highland or Model Y?

Model 3 Stealth P owner here. As part of my "ongoing education" I did back-to-back-to-back drives in a 2024 Model Y, 2024 Model 3 Highland, and my 2018 Model 3P on a local loop of surface streets, mountain road, and freeway. My take: The Model Y is a great car, and a surprisingly-good handler...

Supercharger - Lone Pine, CA (LIVE 28 Jan 2015, multiple expansions, 16 V3 stalls)

Was also a first for us in our 2015 85D. All of four stalls. Felt like a real adventure then. Great memories!

My Tesla Model 3 Highland experience – 1000 kilometres and 2 weeks later (in Ireland)

Beautiful part of the world you live in. Must be glorious driving a Model 3 on those roads!

    New EV tire options

Have driven CC and then C2 for years. Experience echoes TireRack testing results. Very happy in rain, snow and ice. A must for winter rains and mountain snows. But a 15-20% range hit vs. OEM Primacies. Certainly noticeable when driving between widely-spaced desert Superchargers.

What snow chains are suitable for Model 3 2023 Long Range? Tesla says no recommendation for summer tyres..

California is similar. Bare roads in the urban lowlands, absurd snow amounts just a few miles away in the mountains. Sydney/Canberra/Melbourne —> Thredbo must be the same.

Driving in a hilly city like SF or Seattle?

Great car on mountain roads. I drove nothing but stick from 1986 until I got my first Tesla. Among other things, loved the ability to downshift on descents to minimize brake usage. Regen feels exactly like that. Model 3 is my favorite hill and mountain car ever!

    Drove the Highland Yesterday.

One Further Thought Removal of USS parking assist is another unforced error and step backward. Vision-based system is way less precise and consistent. Of course, only a true problem in really tight spaces or other situations when you need to get really close … especially in front, where...

    Drove the Highland Yesterday.

Drove Highland this weekend. “Mulholland Lap” here in LA (mountain road, surface streets, freeway nibble). Back to back to back with our own 2017 M3 RWD and 2024 MY demo car. Agree with OP and general thread consensus. Turn signal learning curve was brief. New PRND approach is fine. And...

When will Berkshire Hathaway buy TSLA?

As someone who knew and worked with Munger for forty years, I can tell you that Berkshire would not buy Tesla at this valuation ... and with this CEO. It's not that they are allergic to tech. They were very early big investors in BYD and are one of Apple's largest shareholders. They look...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

We have rented through Turo through years, and the experience keeps getting better: Phone access. Cars that aren't nerfed (no Premium Connectivity, etc.) In Sydney, we used evee, a new peer-to-peer company a la Turo. Super-good experience: Tesla app access with our own profiles from home...

Supercharger - Lone Pine, CA (LIVE 28 Jan 2015, multiple expansions, 16 V3 stalls)

What’s Not: Tesla promising the Museum folks (who are lovely) to provide large trash cans but not doing so. Some of us Tesla drivers being completely unthoughtful dumping our garbage, anyway. Museum folks forced to clean up our yuck.

Supercharger - Lone Pine, CA (LIVE 28 Jan 2015, multiple expansions, 16 V3 stalls)

    What’s Great: I’ve been stopping here since 2015 en route to Mammoth. In that time: 90 kW —> 120 —> 150 —> 250 (and no sharing) 4 stalls —> 8 —> 16

    11.3.3 First Drive Reactions

Got in a good A/B test today. Used separate-stack AP on divided highway from Mammoth to Bishop. Same experience many others have shared recently: Sudden phantom braking renders formerly-reliable (radar era) AP unusable ... and a freakout for my passenger wife. (For last month, we've had to...

    Full Self Driving in Australia

Hi, US owner here. Was lucky enough to drive Model 3 with FSD for three weeks in Sydney over the recent summer holidays. (evee is great!) Noticed that FSD is very different there than here. For instance, car tried to stop for every green traffic signal on the road up to the Blue Mountains...

    Tesla Investor Day Discussion

Exactly the sort of time-frame myopia which hamstrings so many companies and investors. I was thrilled to see the focus shifted away from Qx numbers to true business proposition fundamentals. Also glad to see less Elon and more team. Still a ways to go, though. Apple-level unified...

Looking to Rent Tesla in Sydney Dec 12-30

Hey, we're from the States. We don't use standard anything here. We're the home of weird voltages and weirder connectors. Even our home AC outlets look like sad faces. And, there are few things quite as entertaining as attempting to charge from 110V ...

Where to buy Tesla 19 inch Sport wheels for Model 3?

The aero covers come off, and the wheels underneath look really good. And, even with covers off, the 18" wheels deliver significantly better range. If you plan to road trip at all -- at Texas 85 mph speeds -- that difference matters.

    Need Some Education

Had a 2015 S85D. Loved it. Then my wife got one of the first Model 3s in 2017. "Borrowed" it for a day. Didn't want to trade back. Yes, the Model S is a bit better looking ... but mainly the straight-on front view. However, we've found the 3 much more fun to drive. We now have two red...

California, LA to San Jose - 1st trip (need advice!)

Ah, Casa de Fruta. Brings back bad memories of my first car, a Batmobile-styled Buick. Alternator went out as we started up Pacheco Pass around midnight. Things steadily dimmed, and then the car coasted to a stop at CdF. Had to spend the night on a naugahyde booth bench in Casa de Coffee...

California, LA to San Jose - 1st trip (need advice!)

If there's any way you can make it work financially, see if you can upgrade your order from SR+ to LR. For the amount of LA/Bay driving you do, you'll be glad you did. When we bought our first Model S in 2015, I was going to buy a 60 or a 70. My wife pushed me to spring for an 85, and it made...

Supercharger - Bishop, CA (LIVE 18 Nov 2020, 12 stalls)

Bishop will also help Lone Pine. Because of charging taper, 15 minutes in Lone Pine can be replaced with 5-minute pee breaks in LP and Bishop. Plus, for those headed to Mammoth, Bishop’s location only 40 (uphill) miles from destination might somewhat reduce the comfort buffer people feel they...

    Which Winter/Snow Tires

I've switched to Michelin CrossClimates for the bizarre mix of driving we do here in California winters: 65 degrees at low elevations but FEET of snow in the mountains. All-seasons but rated for severe winter duty. Not true winter tires, but they scored high marks on TireRack for wet, dry...

    New owner —Worried

OP is indeed getting great advice from everyone here. As a real-world example of charging strategy: We went from LA to Park City (near SLC). Yes, we charged to 100% before leaving home, allowing us to make a big first push. After that, though, we made even more Supercharging stops than...

Supercharger - Lone Pine, CA (LIVE 28 Jan 2015, multiple expansions, 16 V3 stalls)

That’s what I suspect may happen. The way they’ve paved/patched, it looks like there may be four V3 stalls added, with hardware in the original wooden enclosure. Even so, this could have waited until after the holiday weekend and after the plastic wrap came off the other four new units.
