    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

So I am happy(er) to say that the Tesla service center here in Rockville appears to be listening. After taking my car in for an MCU replacement they volunteered that they had the daughterboard and could fix just the daughterboard. It took a week but they got it done and gave me a Model X P90D...

Will Tesla ever allow battery upgrades?

I don't think Chris meant to crash your car every time a new car comes out. Aside from being painful it would seem that insurance companies would get a little grumpy with you. I think he is saying that once that burn kicks in to upgrade most car enthusiasts will find a way to upgrade. Whilst...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

Really disappointing turn of events with these MCU issues. My 70D blacked out last week as others are reporting. The really bad part is that Tesla support seems to consider this a "Oh, well. It happens" kind of thing. When you have a high degree of probability that 100% of the MCUs from this...

Official Thread: Cybertruck (Cybrtrk) Event - Nov 21, 2019

Love Tesla but they need to outsource these presenpresent. Elon had to wait for slides way too often. As for CyberTruck.. this will not be a success unless they make a version that looks at all reasonable. Maybe give up on stainless steel. This would look better in all black. Anybody notice...

Tesla Kills Standard-Range Model S Weeks After Introduction

This article does not appear to be true. I just went through the site and got to last step in the order and the standard range is there and it is still $35,000. Where / when did you see this? -Bill

TESLA Headed for Lack of Cash Again?

I didn't say since the announcement. The stock went down due to a flurry of announcements from Tesla. The Model Y announcement didn't move the needle because it was exactly what everyone expected. The main concerns were Tesla's sudden maneuvers and the continued fears they are bleeding cash...

TESLA Headed for Lack of Cash Again?

Dude, anybody saying this is seriously delusional. The "investing community" doesn't agree with anybody on anything at any time or for any reason. They freakishly overreact to every piece of news and flip from hot to cold and back with each news headline. Luckily, I have a strange sense for...

Navigant: GM Cruise, Waymo Lead Tesla And Others On Full Autonomy

Navigant is silly. How many of these vehicles are actually being sold to customers? Correct me if I am wrong but it seems they are all operating in controlled fleets. Far cry from the real world.

Long-Term Fundamentals of Tesla Motors (TSLA)

I think the main thing you are missing in neroden's responses is twofold: a) Tesla lowering prices and accelerating delivery were intentional from day 1 and Tesla always said it would be aggressive and hard. It was. They did it though. Most people think it took too long.. you seem to feel it...

Long-Term Fundamentals of Tesla Motors (TSLA)

When I got my Tesla there were zero stores. I got my test drive via the service center and it was an awesome experience. The whole store concept never made sense to me. We had a stored in Tyson's Corner, VA that was just one mile from the service center. The store had nothing in it. Tesla...

Model Y Production ‘Likely’ at Gigafactory 1

Good hedge against California finding new ways to tax them into oblivion or adding crazy new labor laws too.

Don't bother reserving a Y on the first day.

Hmmm. I think you missed quite a bit of info in that statement. There was a method behind the madness of their rollouts and usually those that were prioritized for good reason. Proximity, previous ownership and willingness to take the first configurations were all announced early on. The...

Long-Term Fundamentals of Tesla Motors (TSLA)

Rookie, may want to watch a little here. Tesla, as is normal of a complete disrupter, is very difficult for Wall Street to gauge. Wall Street is familiar with GM, Ford etc and not a technology firm that makes cars. They frequently read the tea-leaves wrong. I have made thousands on Wall...

No need for tire rotations with dual motor?

I think what you are saying makes total sense. I have a pretty chill driving style and don't like to have to use brakes (sounds funny to say that). Generally I am sure I have bled off 90% of speed through regen braking rather than using brakes. Out of respect to my passengers I do try to...

No need for tire rotations with dual motor?

I have had pretty much the same results. In fact my first set of Michelin Primacy tires went 45,000 and so far I am on 46,000 and counting on the second set. For my first set I rotated every 5k or so. Since about 70,000 miles I basically stopped rotating and have had no issues. Wear seems...

    Major Tesla event(s) Q1

I actually think a Model S refresh is a possibility given the demise of the 75D. In the long run I suspect there will be a higher capacity S which only makes sense as the Model S should have more benefits to justify the higher cost.

    V9 Update

Yeah, my car sits all cozy in a nice clean garage with an access point only 20' away. Don't think that is the issue. Seeing if I can get Tesla to restart the download.

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Yes, I cannot wait to see BMW's lined up at the dealership for the 1 or 2 fast chargers. Not sure how they are missing this boat when Tesla has clearly articulated the path forward. I know there are many different charging providers but they don't inter-operate and are a pain to deal with. As...

    Model S - DRL Replacement?

Does anybody happen to know if it is possible to replace just the daytime running line portion of the headlight? I have a 2015 MS70D and one of the LEDs in the DRL ring fried. I hate to have to replace the entire headlight assembly but looks like it may be necessary. Haven't seen any...

    2019 model S ???

I totally agree. Tesla will have to insert something more relevant in the Model S to encourage people to jump for the extra bucks now. Frankly, IMHO, the Model S and X needs to be the range / performance king in the Tesla line up to lure folks up over $70k. I am thinking we'll see a 110...

Semi event = truck load of customer M3's?

Actually, not sure who you are talking about. Elon generally does hit his targets although not always on time. If he says he has the 600 miles on a 200kWh pack I am not sure what evidence you could have to disprove it. Teslas are already over 330 miles. Within 3 years I would naturally...

Fair to say the Model 3 killed Hydrogen!

I'm not sure how you come to that conclusion. I know California is onboard with hydrogen but I can tell you the east coast is not at all moving to hydrogen anytime soon. It is still expensive to produce and I think people are more worried about the explosiveness of hydrogen versus the potential...

High Power Wall Charger (HPWC) vs NEMA 14-50 Direct Plug

I have both. Unless you enhance your onboard charging it just doesn't make sense to get the HPWC. I actually think it is just fine to use the mobile charger connected to a NEMA 14-50 outlet and only put the mobile charger in the car when on long travel. When on the road, I either a) use the...

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

So, I have a S70D and in the first year I ended with an average of around 289 Wh/mile. Right now I am closer to 296 Wh/mile. I am not sure that is related to the Tesla battery or anything as much as the fact that I don't really try to sustain over 300 Wh/mile anymore. I previously was careful...

Blog Model 3: Is The Long Range Battery Worth It?

This was a great article. I like the way that miles are calculated.. as part of the car and the driving experience. It doesn't matter what the cost per mile is for the battery because I don't drive the battery. I drive the car. These things are always best viewed from the lens of the driver...

No need for tire rotations with dual motor?

No need for tire rotations with dual motor?

So, during my last annual checkup the service guy advised me that Tesla engineering feels that the dual motor Tesla MS & MX don't need to get a tire rotation... at all. Anybody believe this? I am continuing to do so for now every 10,000 just to be on safe side. My last set lasted 48,000 and I...

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

I'm still ticking at around 292 Wh/mi but lately I've become a bit more cavalier about my driving so recent trips have me average more around 310-320. I'm at over 56,000 miles with a MS 70D

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

I personally would love to see a setting that causes the Tesla to pull the seat back and raises the steering wheel when you open the door and then pick a profile. I share my MS with my wife who has short legs and it is tough to get in there after she sat in the car. Even better, allow...

Have any owners used a 110v outlet to charge your Model S?

It does work but if you travel more than 20-30 miles per day it doesn't work out well. In particular, during winter when your energy usage increases you will encounter issues with keeping up with energy alone. My workaround was intermittently using the Superchargers every once a week just to...

Surprising [and funny!] Problem with Auto Pilot

Funny you should mention it but I literally had AP almost stop on the Beltway (495 near DC) after having changed a lane.
