    My Tesla Bicycle

I built a custom gravel bike as a Christmas present to myself (with my wife's support). I purchased all the parts over the past few months including the carbon frame and wheels. I built the bike, but it looked too bland without any logos. After racking my brain for a while, I decided to dress up...

The value of PPF (Paint Protection Film)

I had my car wrapped with SunTek from the backdoors forward. I was pulling into a parking garage and scraped the front driver's side corner on the concrete when getting my parking ticket. The concrete was very high and the scrape went about 4 inches into the painted section of the front bumper...

    Rear Bumper Replacement

I was rear-ended a couple months ago and will soon have the insurance money to replace my rear bumper. Does anyone know if the redesigned rear bumper will fit on the original Model S? I drove by the a Service Center the other day and was able to see a redesigned MS, but since they were closed I...

Bayol, You are simply amazing. What a fantastic job. Looks like you could have a lot of fun with the interior options (space ships) until more information is available. Keep up the great work!

    Would you consider a Bolt?

I would rather wait and get the Model 3 with a sporty design. I personally think the Bolt is rather boxy and not too appealing. The only concern I have about the 3 is access to the trunk. I haul my road bicycle around in the back of the Model S and it fits nicely without having to remove the...

    Front Bumper Upgrade Offered

They said the installation time would be about 4 hours of labor. That shouldn't be too expensive.

    Would you consider a Bolt?

Would I consider a Bolt? Sure. Would I consider it over a Model 3? Absolutely not! There is little comparison between the two vehicles.

    Superchargers a Profit Center?

If they could make a profit off the SuperChargers by licensing the technology and allowing other brand to use it, there would be some short-term pros and cons. Pros is more revenue immediately. Cons would be more crowded SuperChargers, especially during busy times, and the they would likely have...

    Weather Package worth it?

I have the cold weather package and find it great for the Chicago winters. Preheating is great except when you forget or are unable to plan for it, or don't want to waste the battery power to preheat when you are not plugged in.

By 2030, 100% of cars will be electric & 100% of power will be from solar. True or false?

I can't imagine buying another ICE vehicle as long as quality BEVs are made at a reasonable price. My wife drives a loaded Jeep Grand Cherokee that would be close to the top end Model X. I would like to see something similar with a much smaller premium when I'm ready to replace her car. I know...

    Front Bumper Upgrade Offered

I came across a vendor offering an upgrade to the Model S front bumper that looks very similar to the redesigned Model S front bumper. I'm wondering how many people would be interested in such an upgrade at a $3,450 plus shipping. Looks nice to me, but can't tell from the photos how the sensors...

Autopilot improvement in "MarioKart Rainbow Road" firmware update?

I upgraded to the Mario Kart Rainbow release about a week ago. As someone who uses AP 80% or more of my driving, I immediately noticed that it may have forgot some of what it learned on roads I regularly drive. After driving those roads again for the past week, the AP seems to have relearned the...

    Is HUD a bad idea?

Never used a HUD before but think I could get used to it and really like it. I do like my digital dash, but think I could easily make the transition to a quality HUD display.

    2016 Model S Refresh Mega-thread

Tesla does not have model years, so this is not a 2017 model. I'm sure there will be plenty of other changes before we get to 2017.

    Firmware 7.1

I started to have issues with the audio stuttering after about 10-15 minutes of playback. Rebooted the phone or car and it works fine for another 10-15 minutes and starts again. I also had an update to my phone OS around the same time, so I can't say what it causing the problem, but I'm not...

Tesla most unreliable car manufacturer ever ?

I purchased my Model S 70D back in December and have had no issues. My other ICE cars were in for issues within the first 60 days at least once. I think this shows that Tesla has made a lot of progress eliminating earlier issues.

Fell asleep using Autopilot - admission from a Model S owner

When using AP I find that I am more awake and fresh than when I'm not using AP. I drive about 15,000 miles per year, but take the train to Chicago from the suburbs for work. On the rare occasion when I drive, it's a 90+ minute drive in heavy traffic. AP is amazing in bad traffic and really helps...

Auto lange change only works 30% of the time

The auto lane change works for me 80% of the time. I found that when it doesn't work it's because my sensors were very dirty due salt and other dirt covering them. Clean the sensors and it starts working again without any issues. BTW, you mentioned you "hit the turn signal all the way"...

What car do you currently drive while waiting for the Model X?

Is it Conceivable to Go Back to ICE After Driving a Tesla?

I owned a Toyota Camry Hybrid and went back to a regular ICE. That was painful enough. Now that I have a Model S, I can never imagine going back to an ICE. Besides all the greatness of the electric drive train performance, quiet ride, etc., what drives me crazy more than anything when driving...

Are Next Gen seats causing seat belt fitting issues?

I'm experiencing the same problem. I'm 5'5" and the seat belt it too high and cuts into my neck. My wife is 5'2" and it's even worse for her. The other 3 ICE vehicles I own (Jeep, Toyota and Ford) all have adjustable seatbelt heights. Not a whole lot you can do when they are not adjustable. :crying:

    EV Parking Violation Notice Sample

That is certainly an option that I exercise on occasion, but it takes time and assumes that the busy police departments even gives a darn. I most cases, especially in a private parking garage, I doubt they even do anything. I believe this a powerful message that would likely prevent that person...

    Autopilot's Performance Without Lane Markers

I noticed with 7.1 that there seems to be more ping-ponging than I recall with 7.0, especially in curves. I do believe that 7.1 is much better overall, but in situations where lane markings disappear and then reappear, it doesn't seem to be as smooth as 7.0. I do love my AP and use it almost...

    EV Parking Violation Notice Sample

I've gotten sick of being ICE'd at EV Charging Stations in Illinois and decided to create a parking violation notice to put on the car's windshield. I'm not a lawyer, but am guessing that this should be perfectly legal as I am only notifying the driver that they have violated Illinois law...

Bluetooth audio auto connect and play

There is one other VERY annoying feature of Bluetooth. Just got rear ended

Yes, I did call the police. They took a police report and took the kid away since he had no license to drive. That's how I found out his license was suspended due to too many prior accidents and that his insurance was not valid. Officer asked that I show up at the court date otherwise the...

    Just got rear ended

I was driving to work today and was rear ended while sitting at a red light (@#$%^&!). I'm guessing the kid that hit me was going no faster than 5 mph because there was no visible damage to my 3 month old 70D other than dents in the rear bumper from his front license plate screws. The damage to...

Autopilot collision: Autobahn driver claims his Tesla ran into a barrier on the A7

I use AP frequently and think its great, but not perfect. The driver must pay attention and be ready to make corrections at any time. It is usually the fringe cases where you should not expect AP to handle all situations. This includes construction zones, when the road widens into more lanes or...

Tesla Model 3 anticipated driving range (non-upgraded, base level battery)

I have no inside knowledge, but wonder if the model 3 could have a new drivetrain design that places a direct drive smaller motor in each wheel assembly. This could reduce weight and improve range. I heard a BEV concept car with this design, but don't recall who made the concept car or if it...

    70D vs. 90D Speed Regrets?

I purchased a loaded MS 70D after doing my research. I would rather invest my extra funds into key features I wanted instead of the performance. As for range, I live in the far Chicago suburbs and drive all over the Chicago area, Northwest Indiana and Southern Wisconsin. Range has not been an...

New Owners: What was your last car? How much more was the MS than that car?

Previous cars were Ford Fusion ($24k), Toyota Camry Hybrid ($27k), and Honda Accord ($24k). Always looked into buying a Jaguar, Porsche, BMW, Audi, etc. whenever I bought a new car, but none of them inspired me to spend the cash. The Tesla was an easy sell to part with the cash. Owning part of...

    Supercharger — Peru, IL

It only brings the Quad Cities into range if you are going down I-80. If you are going down I-88 from the western suburbs of Chicago (where most of the Tesla's are owned) to the Quad Cities, you can make it there from Aurora but you can't return. We still need a SuperCharger in the Quad Cities.

    Tesla's Software To-Do List

The radio should remember the volume level for each input. How Will Current Oil Prices Affect Tesla (and other FEV's)?

I don't care what gasoline costs. I drive a Tesla because it's a great car and driving an EV is so much more fun than an ICE. Gas could be free and I would be willing to pay for electricity to drive an EV!

What the Heck is up with Autopilot?

I use Autopilot extensively and have not experienced any bad behavior. I have experienced the situation where the car you are following changes lanes and it takes a second for my Autopilot to acquire the vehicle in front of me. Realizing that AP is beta software, I do drive with the distance...

Is it too soon or too late to ask about a front lic. plate

I did the do-it-yourself magnetic license plate mounting. http://teslatap.com/modifications/magnetic-front-license-plate/ It works GREAT. I upgraded the magnets to ones a little stronger and I have used it on the expressway at 80+ MPH without any concerns about losing it. I park at a train...

    Driver Assistance Features Unavailable

I have a newer 70D that was delivered in early December. The problem has been happening to me almost every 3-5 days. I called Tesla service after it happened several times. They said the likely cause was dirty sensors. I explained that the car was spotless every time it happened. They did a...

    Chicago Winters Anyone?

I have a MS 70D and live in the Chicago suburbs. When it was snowy and icy the other day, I took my 70D out for a spin to see how well it would handle the snow and ice. It gripped as well as my Jeep Grand Cherokee in 4WD. I was really impressed and very glad I got the AWD version and the cold...

New owners and early adopter owners: Do I detect a major difference?

I've had my MS for about 30 days. No quality issues at all with the vehicle. A couple years ago I purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ford Fusion. Inventory cars, same price as ordering brand new

I spent weeks shopping for a CPO Model S and ended up ordering a new one because there was little difference in price that wasn't accounted for by the miles on the CPO car. Save $1,500 and get a car with 1,500 miles??? Why not spend the extra $1,500 and get exactly what you want, brand...

3+ hour drive with auto pilot

I've been using AP in every suitable situation and it performs very well. Similar experience with right hand exits that will sometimes confuse AP and going over hills when the road turns at the apex of the hill. Very pleased with the performance of the Beta. If "guiding the car" means keeping...
