    Experiences going from a 3 to a Y? Considering trading my 3

I can’t answer this directly, but I can tell you that my wife has Model 3 and I recently downsized from an X to a Y. So I now have experience with both the Y and the 3. The space of the Y is much better than the 3. The higher seating in the Y makes getting in and out easier. The Y is...

My Model Y's "Near Death Experience"

My Model Y needed a new front turn signal. The mobile tech replaced the entire headlight assembly. The next day I am heading out and I get the message SW update required contact Tesla. It turns out that the car knows about the specific parts and was complaining about this new part. The SC...

    Coolant Low Warning

So after two weeks in the shop I have a new Supermanifold assembly. It sounds like it was leaking which led to the low coolant error. Because this was a new complex part and repair, it required a senior tech to perform the work which caused additional repair delay. Because it failed so...

    Ticket for Lane change

This is a great example of why I don't use NOA. It has a tendency to cut off fast moving cars. It also has a tendency to leave its blinker on for a long time while trying to change lanes. Until they are able to have the rear camera evaluate approaching traffic from behind - I don't see it...

    Coolant Low Warning

I am thinking this was a B-Team build. One of the back seat releases worked correctly, the other one always released both seats. The rear hatch was poorly aligned and the badging on the back was crooked. It’s not hard to imagine sensors being mis connected or a lose hose or both. I...

    Coolant Low Warning

I think you are right. The tech called it the Superbottle, but the parts order calls it the Supermanifold Assembly which I assume is the proper name of the Octovalve. That also explains why the part has to be special ordered. I would think the M3 superbottle is likely stocked locally by now.

    Coolant Low Warning

Update. They have ordered a new super bottle to fix the car. This is not a part they have local spares for - so I have to wait until early next week. Hopefully that it all it is.

    Coolant Low Warning

I just got a “Coolant Low Warning -OK to Drive” error on a brand new Model Y with less than 200 miles. This was followed up with reduced power warnings. After discussing it with support - they suggested that I bring it in. As it was within 7 days of purchase I didn’t need an appointment...

    y vs X

I just downsized from a 2016 X 90D to the Model Y. Absolutely love the Y. I never really got along with the falcon wing doors as they would collide with the front doors. We always had to have a carefully orchestrated exit protocol. Because the the X was a 6 seater, the storage in back...

    Updates on black MY?

So there is definitely something odd going on. I ordered mine in July 2019, updated the order in September - changing color from blue to black (big mistake as it turns out). Over two weeks ago I had a MVPA with a VIN specified. When I called they said expect two weeks. So now it is two...

    Model X - Active Spoiler?

I am planning to trade in my Model X 90D which has a properly functioning active spoiler. It is also covered by an extended warranty for another 35K miles or 30 months. Anyone who really needs one should let me know. I am in the camp that it looks better extended, but I do have to admit...

Suggestions To Improve Navigate on Autopilot

I have used AutoPilot V1 for about 4 years on my Model X and absolutely love it and rely on it for all highway driving. My wife got the Model 3 a year and half ago and I occasionally get to drive it. Whenever I do, I give Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) a try to see how it is improving. I tired...

    Powerwall in New England ?

I have a Powerwall in Falmouth MA and Eversource is electric provider so I am pretty sure that Eversource has approved their use in MA. I am also adding a second powerwall and have an install date this month. However the connected solution program is still not approved on the cape. Cape...

    4Yr Extended Warranty?

I struggled with exactly the same question. I have an early X and decided to go for the extended warranty. I recently had a bizarre falcon wing door problem where the center spline popped up while the doors were opening and cracked the glass on both FWDs and the spline. The repair cost was...

FINALLY!!! Maintenance Plans and Extended Service Agreement

That is probably true. When I bought my car - they hadn’t yet figured out the warranty or maintenance plans. I likely would have bought it at time of purchase if it were available given all the early reliability concerns. Having said that - there is no reason to buy it early either - unless...

FINALLY!!! Maintenance Plans and Extended Service Agreement

It was $4800 for me in January of this year. Again, I had a very early X. It might not be as necessary with newer builds.

FINALLY!!! Maintenance Plans and Extended Service Agreement

Well I’m glad I bought it. When opening both Falcon Wng doors at the same time - the center spline somehow came loose. It cracked the roof glass of the Falcon wing door. I ended up needing new roof glass on both doors and a new center spline. The repair cost estimate was about $3k. I...

Storm Watch - another year, another hurricane, more questions

Storm watch is a bit of a mess. Storm Watch turned on for me two days before Dorian was expected to be nearby. I was encouraged that it seemed to be pro-active - thinking it was working correctly. Today - I received alerts from my electric provider warning of potential outages and my area...

Which panels are now offered by Tesla?

There is very little information available about the specific solar panels now being used by Tesla. A friend has been told that only Hanwha Q-Cells are being offered with the new pricing and on-line configurator. Is it true that Tesla is no longer offering Panasonic panels or can those still...

    Inconsistent Storm Watch Behavior

Yesterday we had our first Storm Watch activation as the result of a tornado warning. However, it didn’t activate until about 20 minutes into the warning. In the meantime, nearby downed trees knocked out power nearby. The Storm Watch mode ended exactly at the end of the warning interval...

Tesla Model Y Not A Crossover, But A Tall Sedan: Says Designer

I have a 3 year old X and plan to trade it in for a Y. I always thought of the X as a big car, but when I look at it in comparison to most of what shows up at the golf course, it is just moderate in size. This new perspective crystalized for me when a woman approached me saying her husband...

PW + Charging overnight --- and power goes out at 1AM

For my Powerwall installation, the NEMA 14-50 circuit for my car and my A/C is not backed up ... but when the grid is operational, the A/C and the NEMA can drain the powerwall. As my primary intent was to get the Powerwall for emergency backup, I have had to play with quite a few settings to...

    Powerwall in New England ?

This seems quite odd. Am I right in thinking that the Powerwalls are being added to an existing solar installation? After a year of waiting, I was able to add a Powerwall to an existing third party solar install. I already had a net metering agreement with Eversource for the existing solar...

Is this what Storm Watch looks like for everyone?

I just received my first storm watch event based on a severe weather alert tied to high winds and risk of fire. Previously other severe weather alerts did not trigger storm watch. This was the first severe weather alert since I was upgraded to 1.33 from 1.31. I am thinking the version...

    Model X - Active Spoiler?

Other than the obvious rising when the car is unlocked, it adjusts a bit depending on the speed the car is traveling. Under 40 mph it is fully extended. Over 40 it retracts a bit presumably to be more aero dynamic. When if first came out, it didn’t retract when the trunk was opened which...

Help analyzing Tesla Powerwall energy issues.

I had a related issue. When they completed my install - the sun was down so they couldn’t really test it. Needless to say it didn’t work when the sun was out and they had to come back. It turned out that 2 CTs were reversed. After they fixed the first one, things improved, but the power...

    Powerwall in New England ?

Congrats. I had mine installed on 1/31 - but as a heads up it is only now just working. From all of the literature - I had the impression that when the install guy leaves the Powerwall should be working. Mine was an addition to existing solar and the sun was down when they finished the...

Tesla Band now available for Model 3 key fob

No. I agree. I was just being sarcastic. I was however truly annoyed that the key did not come with a key ring and do find it astonishing that the official product solution is $18 on top of a $150 key fob.

Tesla Band now available for Model 3 key fob

I think this is intended as a significant profit center. I got my wife a Model 3 key fob to deal with those circumstances where the phone won’t open the door. I was astonished that it didn’t come with a lanyard. Fortunately, I have a Model X and a spare set of keys so I was able to take the...

    Proactive replacement of Powerwall 2

Out of curiosity - how did you know there was an issue. It seems odd that some are replaced pro-actively whereas you had to call each time.

FINALLY!!! Maintenance Plans and Extended Service Agreement

Actually, there is a 1,000 mile grace period if you read carefully. I renewed mine at 50,900 miles :-). Wanted to maximize the time as I think I’ll hit 4 years before 100,000 miles.

FINALLY!!! Maintenance Plans and Extended Service Agreement

I just purchased it after quite a bit of vacillation. I was all set to go without it but then I read about suspension repair costs and also noticed some quirky behavior with my car. The automatic spoiler acted up a bit, the falcon wing doors creaked more than usual. I felt like the car was...

    Powerwall in New England ?

Just a quick update. I got the call today for installation. Currently scheduled for 1/31. So in the big picture they are at least close to what was last communicated to me - installation at the end of the year. Only one month late.

    Different brands of solar panels

SunPower is one of the top two brands of solar panels. It is very interesting that none of your quotes include these and you should ask about them. They are the most efficient and also have the best retained performance over time.

    Powerwall in New England ?

Just got the documents to sign for interconnect with Eversource. I started the process in April of 2018 with uncertainty regarding install time frame. The site survey was performed very rapidly after order - but there was very little interaction after that. After a few months they called to...

1 Million Miles? What are you on track for?

I stand corrected and better informed. So perhaps the point was to demonstrate capabiliity comprable with some of the best engineering. Either way - it still is an important accomplishment and bodes well for the durability and life span for Tesla vehicles.
  41. T

1 Million Miles? What are you on track for?

I think the point of the 1 million mile claim was simply to say the motor is essentially indestructible - not that the car would be good for 1 million miles. I’m not an ICE expert, but imagine what it would take to maintain the full functionality of an ICE engine for 1 million miles.

Battery Drained 30% overnight..Big Flaw, Easy Fix

While other cars do this as well, Tesla should address this situation. The back doors require quite a bit of force to close and it is easy to leave them slightly open. The trunk as well can look closed when it isn’t. There are very few circumstances where one intentionally leaves a door or...

AC back vents blowing warm air

I had what sounds like a different but related problem today. The outside temp was 45 degrees, front seats were set to 68 and the back seat was blowing really hot air - so hot in the back that I shut off the climate system altogether. Everyone was then reasonably comfortable. The general...

    A Fart Toy. Seriously?

I completely gave up on the idea that the USB interface on the X will ever work correctly. The fart app on the other hand is a great implementation. For the record - I am card carrying AARP member - but I felt about 60 years younger playing with the app. I now want them to assign the fart...

    V9 Garage Door Signal Weak

Glad it’s working for you now - but I do think something changed. I have to be much closer to my garage before it begins the cycle to open. I have it set for the maximum range. I used to be able to have the door opening just before my car pulled into the driveway - now I am almost at the...

Model X 90kWh battery pack degradation

One more data point - April 2016 build X 90D. At 50K miles my 100% is 244 miles. I charge routinely at home to 90% at 40amps. I have also been very careful to minimize time spent at 100% when I go on trips. This is about what I expected when I bought the car.

Fair Warning: From "Air Suspension Needs Service" --> Total Failure

WOW. I am within a few hundred miles of 50K. Until I read this, I was going to forgo the extended warranty, but I have an early VIN X - which has been great - but have had this nagging feeling there is a big repair in the not too distant future - suspension, falcon wings, dynamic spoiler...

    Dedham off-grid ???

Dedham does seem to be way too busy, but their service has always been great. I scheduled my car for 50k service and what ended up being a couple of minor adjustments. The gave me an almost brand new Model X loaner via Enterprise - so I was indifferent to how long they had the car. It...

Charge Port Cover Stuck Partially Open

Mine was going the other way. A bit indented and not opening reliably with a physical touch. I had them look at it at a recent service visit. There is apparently a stop adjustment screw. Now it is flush again and opening reliably. That may be the black stopper referred to in and earlier post.
