Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

I put in for the program the first day it was announced. I was just approved today. So like 5 days. I live alone, and spend a lot of time away from traveling for work. So I’m happy to put my equipment to use (3x pw, 10k solar). Maybe more for the novelty rather than compensation. Here’s what...

    Improved off grid behavior

There’s an option on the app now to “go off grid.” I’ve just been using that. Good idea with the frequency. I’ll check that when I fly back home next week. After 10 weeks since my permits were approved Tesla finally applied for pto with PG&E. So hopefully sometime soon I won’t have to sweat...

    Improved off grid behavior

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Yeah alright you curtailed my excitement… with math. I had emphase for my prior house. I kinda saw the panel level control as one of the big advantages of using their platform. The on/off switching of the powerwalls is pretty much seamless though. So yeah...

    Improved off grid behavior

I have 12k of solar and 3 PW 2’s. I have two Tesla inverters. I have been running in off grid mode since I’m waiting for PTO. Prior to now I noticed that it would either entirely turn on or turn off the solar array when the batteries are near 100%. Now though it seems to be adjusting the...

Using a Credit Card or Paypal to pay for Tesla Solar

My solar passed inspection yesterday. It’s time for me to pay up. Obviously Tesla wants an ACH transfer. However I saw some of you had luck calling in to pay with a cc. I tried (873) 973-7652. But it rings to a busy signal. Also the number is from Canada which concerns me. Has anyone had luck...

Late 2016 / Early 2017 S Owners: How Are Your Daytime Running Lights Holding Up?

I had my left side replaced twice under warranty. The second time I had like 49,9xx or so miles. That was a year ago. I'm expecting one or both sides to be out every time I look at the car.

Fill Powerwalls first, Tesla EV second, extra to grid third?

Funny I was just thinking about this same thing last week. I'm also waiting for PG&E PTO. But I have my system on anyway.. Since they have implemented a similar feature for off grid, it would certainly be nice if it was available on grid. My attempt at a workaround is to set my car to charge...

Anybody manage to get $1000 Plaid+ order fee refunded?

Mine originally said non refundable. But it changed. I was able to do it online about a week ago. Money came back to my CC shortly thereafter.

What should I expect from a MCU replacement?

When mine was replaced my remote unlock and keyless driving (via iPhone app) stopped working. I would recommend you test it before you accept the vehicle back from them. You will also have to reprogram all your personal settings.

    Failed software update (autopilot inoperative)

Three days ago I got the notification that a new update was available. I set it to install. In the morning though the car had an error to contact support. The message has been persistent while driving. Turns out the autopilot and presumable other safety features are now not available. I...

    Kerbed archnid wheel

That’s not bad at all. I kept mine perfect for about 6 months, and then... I used a small file to smooth out the roughness and then the silver wheel paint from Tesla. Not perfect but pretty close.

Model S range and interior update imminent?

I think the article reeks of BS. Tesla wouldn’t let this slip out. The rendering looks very basic like someone made it on photoshop in an hour. The pedals look all wrong. Why would this information come with such an exact timeline? It just isn’t believable. Even if it was good information...

Poor LED Performance - 1 Solution

I finally had a chance to do this on my 16 S. I can vouch for much better low beam illumination. It seems to come at a slight cost of excessively high, high beams. I consider it a worthwhile trade though. I believe that the lights are aimed too low from the factory. The process is very easy...

Poor LED Performance - 1 Solution

I’m going to try this too. The LED headlights are really underwhelming. My model 3 has VASTLY superior headlights to my 16 Model S. Like the OP my previous Honda S2000 set the benchmark pretty high for headlights. I’ll report back...

Wind noise and early Model 3 VIN's

As many of you know Consumer Reports had some input on the ride quality and wind noise in the Model 3. I have an early vin (17xx) and they were spot on with the ride quality. Our car had a firmer ride than many sports cars. While this did make it more fun around the corners, my wife was not a...

    Part recall for Model 3

Hey my car was also pulling to the right a little. I thought initially that it was an alignment issue. On a hunch I checked the tire pressure. I they were a little mismatched. It was 2-3 PSI if I recall. I filled them all up to exactly the same pressure. No more pulling to the right. So I...

    Is Scheduled charging disabled?

UPDATE 2: Annoyingly it turns out that using the stop charging feature in the mobile app only stops the vehicle charging for a half hour or so. New workaround is to plug in, then scale back the desired charge level to below the current level. Then wake up at 11:00 and increase to the charge...

Looking for a Model 3 LED headlight review (high beam & low beams)

The headlights are completely awesome. They’re super bright. They are leagues better than my 16 Model S (I believe they may have changed suppliers since then though on the S). The fog lamps add quite a bit of dispersed light as well. There is a nifty feature to adjust the beam up and down...

Yeah great point about the screen. Its much more fluid and smooth than the Model S. And the resolution is great as well. I think its just a higher grade LCD than we have in the S. Good call about the cable. I didn't think to just ask for one.

We took delivery Thursday the 28th in Fremont at the new delivery center. We both really like the car a lot. It is unexpectedly different than our Model S 75D (which we love). This is not necessarily a bad thing. First thing is the delivery process. It was pretty streamlined. We were in...

    Model 3 insurance

Sure- Basically exchanging the model 3 for the chevy volt adds 80$/year to my insurance. So the model S and the Model 3 combined are 2500 for the year. I can't tell by my quote how much the model 3 would be alone.

Delivery in 5 days, need paint protection plan

C141- thanks It looks like the XPEL ket offered in the link is prohibitively expensive. It would cost something like 1000 for the kit. Got my configure email today. I'm a current owner. I was maybe number 100 in line on day one. They're saying 4 weeks to delivery. It would be a bummer to miss the federal tax credit by days.. Hopefully it'll come a few days early or the republicans will keep the credit.
