Tesla replacing ultrasonic sensors with Tesla Vision

Especially with low-res "eyeballs" that lack stereoscopic vision and anything near to full coverage around the vehicle. Removing near distance sensors is an astoundingly dumb idea on Tesla's part.

    Honest review of the wheel

Elon loves to opine "All input is error" and I can't help picturing him giving his "input" to the poor designers and engineers at Tesla... Just sayin'.

    USB Music - cover art

LOL, I cancelled my Creative Cloud subscription years ago and went back to using the last Photoshop version before CC ... no monthly fees and I don't miss any of the "new" features they've added over the last 8 years. ;)

Love Tesla. Love my car. Wish Tesla would please fix the USB Audio Player.

When I got my first Model S back in 2016, I gave rides to plenty of friends and neighbors who had never been in a Tesla. We'd enter the car, my favorite music track would resume, and the passenger would excitedly point at the CID and exclaim, "Whoa! Is that the album cover? That's so cool!" Now...

    USB Music - cover art

Likely true, but still a sad commentary. However, what bothers me even more than the lack of album art is the failure to simply resume USB music playback when I enter the car (this stopped working after an update sometime around November of 2020). The only apparent work-around to THIS foible is...

    USB Music - cover art

Nah, it's simply BAD programming on Tesla's part. Every other portable music player on the market does just fine with less memory and far less processing power.

Refresh orders with 19s: what are you going to do about those hideous wheels?

If you're referring to the 19" Tempest wheel covers, they are easily removable and you should visit the following thread for details on what some 2020 model year buyers have done to "fix the ugly": https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/tempest-wheels.187553/

    2020.48.35.5

Yep, same thing with my 2020 MS since 2020.48.35.5. On two different occasions both displays have gone dark while driving, each time within about 3 minutes of starting the trip. I haven't filed a service request, but did log a bug report both times.

    8.5' vs 18' cable

Tesla sold a version of the HPWC with an attached NEMA cord and plug early 2019, but I think it's no longer available. Here's a link to the Electrek story: Tesla launches new Wall Connector with NEMA 14-50 plug - Electrek

    8.5' vs 18' cable

This works great for my Gen2 HPWC - I just attached a water hose rack below the wall charger to neatly loop the longer cable.

What, no adjustments for relativistic effects? Back to the chalkboard, son.

    Model 3 crash @ +100MPH

Sorry, but it is spelled “whiskey”—with an e—in the United States and Ireland. No soup (or whiskey) for you!

    Model 3 crash @ +100MPH

@alexgr: Close, but your numbers only apply in a vacuum (no air resistance) ...

    Model 3 crash @ +100MPH

Just to further roiI the off-topic waters, I would suggest that this event (batteries flying and M3 in pieces) actually DID result from a "high rate of speed" ... rapid deceleration.

Right headlight power issue -- any experts?

No details in the service notes on which ground wire was tightened. What worries me is that the issue returned for a day AFTER the ground wire fix, then went away on its own. I keep waiting for an unwelcome surprise if it crops up again. Beyond that, I'm still experiencing another problem with...

Right headlight power issue -- any experts?

I had exactly this happen on a new 2020 MS Raven two weeks after delivery - the passenger side headlight wouldn't light and the right turn signal flashed 2x normal with no sound or indication on the CID. Mobile service came out and tried to replace the complete headlight assembly (not a simple...

    Turn Signal Fault

I had a somewhat similar issue with the right turn signal and headlight. They were intermittent for a few days then stopped working altogether. Mobile service tried replacing the headlight assembly and when that didn't work, asked me to schedule a SC appointment. Turned out to be a "corroded...

Automatic trunk latch does not always work

This seems to be a chronic issue with recent MS builds. I got my 2020 Raven in Mid-March (right before the factory closed) and my hatch would lower to just before latching and then abort. After 3 attempts it would give up and just emit warning beeps, forcing me to manually push down the hatch...

    Tempest Wheels

Here's my MS sans Tempest wheel covers. BTW, I couldn't find the black logo on a silver background either, but these center caps look great in person. .

    Tempest Wheels

Search for "aero wheel cap kit for tesla" on Amazon. I got the Kenpenri kit with black and silver center caps (which is oddly no longer available). Looks WAY better than the plastic Tempest wheel covers and there's a huge bonus - no more "crackling" sound when the tires are slowly rotating - I...

    Trunk lid not latching

Was your hatch reversing (opening back up) when it failed to latch? My brand new Model S did this intermittently and Mobile Service determined that the strike plate was misaligned. Fix took about 10 minutes, done in my own garage a few days ago.

    Tempest wheels

@cmarshack - Glad you joined in! Your earlier post in the 'Model S: Interior & Exterior' discussion group is what cued me into using the lug covers and caps on the wheel. I found several vendors on Amazon claiming their kits fit the 3, S, and X and picked one with the silver center cap and black...

    Tempest wheels

Got my MS Long Range Plus last week after placing an order on January 1, 2020. My original LR order included the Silver Slipstream wheels, but after the LR+ went live I was told it was only available with the new Tempest wheels (ahem, "wheel covers") and had to update the order. As others have...

Love Tesla. Love my car. Wish Tesla would please fix the USB Audio Player.

You are spot on, PhilDavid. I love my 2016 Model S, but it's simply inexcusable that Tesla hasn't fixed this USB audio issue since version 9 and 10 came out and turned the playback experience into a daily frustration fest. Any coder worth his/her salt could fix this in a few hours (ask me how...

    @sdmack +1 That's my take also - EPA / Monroney paperwork issue.

Delivery delay - for Tempest wheels?

Seems fishy... IMO, if you ordered the 19" silver wheels, and it was delivered with the silver wheels, and you want the silver wheels, you should pick up the car as is.

    Question on new range

I ordered a Model S LR in early January (still waiting for a VIN) and I just received an email from my local SC asking if I want to go for a "no cost upgrade" to the 390 mile configuration. He noted that if I go with the range upgrade, I have to take the Tempest wheels instead of the silver...

UV Worked great on my badly yellowed screen

I'd guess the fix uses short wavelength ultraviolet in the UV-C spectrum, which is commonly used to cure inks, sealants, and adhesives. My previous company worked with medical-grade UV-C (254 nm wavelength) mercury arc tubes for epidermal germicidal treatments. High intensity UV-C can rapidly...

Tesla forced an update of my P85D to 2019.16.2

I got my forced update (from V8 ver. 2018.34.1 to 2019.32.12.1) yesterday morning. Then 12 hours later I got another update notice for 2019.32.12.2 (which, as many have reported, fired off the car alarm when the update was 80% installed!) Resigned myself to the clunkier V9/V10 UI, but at least...

    Solar panels over clay tile

They are indeed clay (not concrete), and that's why I'm here :) Hoping to hear from someone who "survived" a clay tile PV install. Replacing a cracked or broken clay tile is a PITA ... ask me how I know.

    Solar panels over clay tile

We have a Spanish tile roof and I was recently told by a Tesla Energy sales rep that they will not install solar panels over clay tiles. In fact, Tesla declined to even schedule a visit to work up a quote. I explained that our roof was recently redone (2011) with a modified bitumen torch down...

anyone else not too impressed with straight pipe noise anymore?

Bingo. We live in a very quiet neighborhood, but are straddled by two neighbors with matching Maserati's that seem specifically tuned to penetrate our windows with a tractor + lawnmower + blender + fart + chainsaw audio-mix that is irritating as hell while they broadcast their daily comings and...

High Power Wall Charger (HPWC) vs NEMA 14-50 Direct Plug

I originally installed a NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage mid-2016 about a month before taking delivery of my Model S. Works fine and I get about 29 miles/hour charging at 40A, but when Tesla dropped the price of their HPWC a few months ago I decided it would better serve in two ways: (1) allow me...

    Tesla Home Automation

I have a custom designed home automation system that can be accessed over HTTP and it runs quite well in the Tesla browser. Gives touch control over lights, A/C controls, room occupancy, security status, on-site weather, household power usage, and more. Here's a screen capture of the "floor...

    Model S has No Soul!

I'd argue that the ONLY time this made sense was during the transition from horse-drawn carriages to horseless carriages. Horses may have souls, but machines do not :-) In any case, if you change "soul" to "personality", there's no denying that the Model S has plenty of personality.

Was the initial 7.0 release "this bad"

@TexasEV I'm the "upper age" bracket and low contrast text bothers me as well, even though I have excellent vision. Thin fonts and flat UI designs will, hopefully, move on to something that appeals to a wider audience in the near future. In a similar topic on the Tesla forum, I just today...

Quality ? For tesla MS owners (past Toyota/Lexus owners)

Holy cow, I could have written this exact same post! We got the first Lexus LS400 in our town in 1989 and then the first SC400 in 1992 (which I still have). Thought we'd only ever buy Lexus vehicles until I test drove a Tesla two months ago and got hooked - just took delivery of our S90D two...
