    Here's What's Missing from Self-Driving Cars: TRUST

Tesla says they could build a system as good as AP1, but one problem -- they haven't done it (they actually said even more, they said it would be an "Enhanced" version and sold it for almost twice as much)

IIHS Small Overlap Front Crash Test (2nd Attempt): Only Acceptable again.

Not to beat a dead horse, but might as well, the 100D also missed the top score in the roof strength test and of course the headlight test as well.

IIHS Small Overlap Front Crash Test (2nd Attempt): Only Acceptable again.

IIHS testing is more stringent and is done at higher speeds than the NHTSA tests. I think in this class of car, most buyers would be familiar with both.

IIHS Small Overlap Front Crash Test (2nd Attempt): Only Acceptable again.

That information is irrelevant why? As an owner of a pre-November 2016 S, I'd personally find the information highly relevant.

Roof Strength - Model S vs Chevy Bolt

I'd say there are even more areas or concern. The Poor rated headlamps, the low frontal offset and structure ratings, and the low roof strength ratings for the heavier models and the barely good rating for the lightest models. When cars like the Bolt and or a 5 year old C-Max blow away your...

CPO: Car has 1,500 miles more than expected

That's a lot of miles, especially if those are loaner miles. We know how people treat loaners. I have an issue with Tesla's process of putting off-lease vehicles into the loaner pool and then later selling them as a CPO. To me, certified pre-owned is different than certified former loaner...

IIHS Small Overlap Front Crash Test (2nd Attempt): Only Acceptable again.

Why all the negativity here? look on the bright side! Our heads may hit the steering wheel in an accident, our headlights are rated Poor, our roofs are much weaker than we were told, but hey, at least we don't need to worry about having a Takata airbag, right?

IIHS Small Overlap Front Crash Test (2nd Attempt): Only Acceptable again.

The Model S was tested three times by the IIHS on the small overlap test. This was not a single outlier test. IIHS allowed Tesla to make changes to the design twice and Tesla did make changes after tests one and two. The third time was not the charm however.
  10. M

Roof Strength - Model S vs Chevy Bolt

I'm not sure there's an argument. The claim and the test results are very clear. Musk claimed that the Model S has an exceptionally strong roof. A roof so incredibly strong it broke the machine that was supposed to break the car. Thanks to the IIHS we now know the claim was off base. The...

IIHS Small Overlap Front Crash Test (2nd Attempt): Only Acceptable again.

This is actually Tesla's third attempt at the IIHS test. The first IIHS test was earlier in 2016. The results were not published per IIHS policy. If a company doesn't like the first result, IIHS lets a company make changes and re-test. Tesla made changes starting with Nov 2016 production...

Tesla & BMW Fall Short in IIHS Safety Tests

I cut and pasted the list of 2013 IIHS Top Pick winners that had scores of 4g or better in response to the question below. That person said Musk's claim was accurate at the time and asked for roofs that had scores of 4g or better. The list shows an extensive number of 2013 cars that met or...

IIHS Small Overlap Front Crash Test (2nd Attempt): Only Acceptable again.

Even this statement from Tesla isn't completely accurate since the 100D only gets an Acceptable rating in the IIHS Roof Strength Test. IIHS on Model S Roof Strength "Rating does not apply to Model S P100D. Rating of this model is Acceptable."

Roof Strength - Model S vs Chevy Bolt

Yet that is the stat that Musk himself chose to 'harp on'. it is also that stat that got repeated endlessly in the media and on here. Little did we know until the IIHS results were published that the Model S roof is actually much weaker than many other cars and the 100D roof is only rated...

Roof Strength - Model S vs Chevy Bolt

What is incorrect? The fact that a 2010 Mercedes E-Class has a stronger roof than a Model S and Tesla still claimed in 2013 that the Model S roof is so exceptionally strong that it broke the machine? Regardless, Musk's claim was made in reference to the 4x strength to weight ratio. 2010...

Roof Strength - Model S vs Chevy Bolt

When Tesla made the claim in 2013, it was no where near the strongest roof, that's the point of the thread. For example, the Mercedes C-Class earned a 5.36 in 2008 when this test first started.

QUOTE="JHWJR, post: 2159406, member: 57482"]Actually, it was the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that conducted the test, and it broke their machine, as reported in Road and Track. The reality was exactly what was reported. Go troll somewhere else. Tesla Model S Breaks...

Roof Strength - Model S vs Chevy Bolt

How do you figure? The Model S roof strength was not anything special at the time, yet Musk still suggested it was something exceptional. What actually happened with the S was the machine broke during the NHTSA test, but not because the roof was so strong, the machine just happened to break...

Delay in getting Autosteer/AutoPark and Rain Sensing Wipers - We are owed a Refund

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but the Model S didn't even earn a Top Pick safety rating from the IIHS. The roof strength of a Chevy Bolt is stronger than that of a Model S.

Remember when Musk claimed the roof of the Model S was so strong that it broke the testing machine, suggesting it's roof was unusually strong? Well, it turns out reality is a little different. The recent IIHS test of the Chevy Bolt shows that the Bolt's roof has a strength-to-weight ratio of...
