Tesla should open-source the MCU code

Seriously! The company needs to cut costs. Obviously there's money to be saved by scaling down their own team. A lot of skilled people will contribute much needed bugfixes and features as merge requests for free. Maybe finally someone will fix the USB bugs. There is nothing secret in the MCU...

    Why not seamless software updates?

By building the Tesla software a little bit more modern, it should be possible to update the cars seamlessly without asking the user. Not during driving, but in <30 seconds at a time when the charger is plugged in and car is not likely to be used. Technically they could build the firmware as a...

    Common Tesla firmware forum

Hi, Since the firmware threads are very popular, can we put them in one place? Makes it easier to spot them and also track history. Create a common subforum called Firmware or Software Updates. Then make a subforumlink to it from the S, X and 3 forums so all users get to the same place. Would...

    Radar on Teslas

[Moderator note (bmah): Moved this discussion of radar on Teslas from the 2018.16.1 firmware thread into its own thread.] Detecting stopped cars cannot be done using radar alone. Cars could stand still in a curve. How could the radar tell the difference between a stopped car you will crash...

Will X100D also get upgraded performance?

I've read some S100D owners getting a performance increase lately. Are there any chances this upgrade will also show up on X100D, or already be activated on vehicles produced in October?

    What about the tow hitch?

Seems a lot of norwegians are disappointed by the lack of tow hitch. Towing trailers is important to a lot of norwegians. Many don't need tons of range for camping, but most people use small trailers to dump gardening trash etc... If there is no such possibility, you still need a second IC car...

    Regen in cold climate improvement

Just had an idea. Is there a reason regen effect cannot be shalted to a 30 or 60 kW heating element when the battery is too cold to accept power? Then seamlessly transfer to the battery as temperature raises. Should offer some goods in cold climates (-20C): - Much faster heating - Less wasted...
