Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Incorrect. The rear motor is new, as is the inverter that outputs 15% more current than previously (950 amps vs. 830) Pure speculation. If you don't have sources or a dyno chart there's no need to spread misinformation. In fact, the reviews say the opposite in that it "does not relent" above 60.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I like that they compare it to ICE competitors with logic and reason. For me it gets even better towards the end when they talk about the new Rivian R3X, which is what I personally plan to replace my 2018 Model 3P with in a few years. It's long been my favorite enthusiast podcast simply due to...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Jason Cammissa mentioned in his podcast that he got 2.90 to 60 with a passenger. He also mentioned it delivers more torque for longer (ie at higher speeds) which is arguably more important.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Lol. You should learn to not make so many assumptions about strangers. Here I was thinking diversifying when I've made a lot of money in one area was a rational investment decision, but apparently I was "risking bankruptcy"... whatever you gotta tell yourself man. If you were truly confident you...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yep! l Literally exactly what I said actually. Bought 2 houses, a couple sports cars, and will be selling off my final shares soon. Not bad for my age. TSLA may shoot up to 2000 again one day, but I fortunately won't need it. I hope we all can be so lucky!

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I'm not "quitting" anything and my post had little to do with whatever's currently in the news. I simply don't agree with the direction Elon is going with his ventures and haven't for a few years now. He's been claiming full FSD "that can drive across the country without intervention" for over 8...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Sad to say I agree. I've been slowly reducing my TSLA exposure since Elon bought twitter in 2022 when I became concerned his mental state was suffering and clearly massively distracted. I wish all of you luck, but in the next few months I will be out of TSLA entirely. It's been a great 7 years...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Warmer battery is good for performance, but bad for longevity. You're both right.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I'm more interested in the weight, bucket seats, and acceleration beyond 60mph. Those are all things that actually matter for performance on a track or in a motorsports setting and where the current model struggles. I'm speculating 2.9 to 60 and 10.9 quarter mile at 125mph.

Vendor Official Signature Wheel Gallery | Fitment Q&A Thread

Received my second set of Signature's in July (first set are 19x9.5 SV501 matte gunmetal track spec, these are 19x8.5 SV104 brush titanium). Took them on a 4400 mile cross-country road trip in September. Love the look and efficiency. Few shots after some speed runs at the salt flats in Utah.

    Track pack is here!

I did not unfortunately. I'm currently overseas for my job so I can't walk out to the garage and go take some, but they were Brembo branded.

    Track pack is here!

Thanks for the kinds words! Sadly I do agree the majority of Tesla owners are not traditional car enthusiasts but often more of the tech crowd. You can see this in a lot of the aftermarket vendors and the junk they sell (eg. rubber caliper covers and lighted logos, etc.) which are embarrassing...

    Track pack is here!

Yep, I had Endless pads on all 4 corners but the rears were dragging and creating tons of rust colored brake dust when commuting. I decided to leave endless pads up front and go with the track pads in the rear as a compromise, since the OEM track pads retain the spring clips that hold the rear...

Signature Track Wheels - ZERO FAILURES

I've tracked my signature wheels a dozen or so times in the past year. No issues. I've been impressed with the combination of value, build quality, full custom build-to-order options, weight, etc. They are honestly not that expensive compared to other fully forged custom wheel brands.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I would sure hope so. He's a 4 time Formula One world champion... EDIT: It appears to be the same name but not the F1 driver. Still a fun lap. Maybe with all these TSLA gains I'll take my future roaster there ;)
  19. FlyNavy01

Model 3 on the Nurburgring vs. Taycan

Both cars 100% stock according to the video description. Sebastian estimates a ~7:45 lap time in stock form. Upgrade the brakes, suspension and tires (like many of us have) and I think the Model 3 would put down low 7:00's easy.

Big Brake Kit the China option?

This thread is turning into a bunch of straw man arguments, so it's not really worth further effort following this post since it seems you're just being deliberately obtuse at this point. You're free to spend your money on whatever you want, just don't get upset when people tell you it's a bad...

Big Brake Kit the China option?

The original post specifically asked for people's opinions and people gave them honestly. It's not hate, it's looking out for their safety. Being manufactured in China is 100% fine if done correctly (look at every single Apple product, which many people consider "high-end"). You just need the...

Dominion Raceway Road Course Fast Laps

This photo and short clip from twitter shows two small black heat exchangers that they have beneath each headlight. Looks similar in size/shape/location to oil coolers in a traditional ICE car. Not sure what they're being used for, maybe just supplemental to the main radiator...

Dominion Raceway Road Course Fast Laps

The ambient temps do make a large difference, I had very little overheating problems in the 60-70 winters here in FL, but overheat after 2 laps with the humidity and heat index 100-110 in the summers. I'm waiting for temps to cool back down before I track again. The Unplugged Pikes Peak car has...

Increasing range by going with skinny tires?

Where are you getting 60000 from? The AWD Model 3 has ~74kwh of usable capacity. 74000/310=239 miles, which is about what I get in my P3D with much wider than stock tires.
  25. FlyNavy01

    Track pack is here!

Track package wheels are flow formed, not fully forged. Tesla removed the "forged" part from the wording when they released them.
  26. FlyNavy01

    Track pack is here!

I ordered the rear "track package pads" from Tesla because my current Endless EX90 track pads have serious brake drag due to the lack of spring tabs that are on the OEM rear pads. They were adding ~30wh/mi to my energy usage and tons of dust. The Tesla track pads are quite overpriced, $500 for...

    QuickJack BL-5000SLX sale @ Costco

I have the 5000 series from Costco as well. I agree it's 1-2" too short on each end, but still useable. My car is lowered 30mm so I only use the supplied blocks. Even then it barely slides under my car with just a few millimeters clearance. I use mine 1-2 times a month at least, since I swap...

Vendor UP Ascension-R Carbon Wide front fender

The front tire width is limited by the knuckle arm. My 275/35/19 tires are 4mm from it. You can't physically put wider tires on the front unless you increase the track width. Unless UP's car also has a custom knuckle arm I'm unaware of, then they are increasing the front track width and not the...

Vendor UP Ascension-R Carbon Wide front fender

I fully support any aftermarket company that is helping get more EV's onto the track and into enthusiasts hands to prove their capabilities. These carbon parts look great and I love seeing more aftermarket motorsport development on Model 3's. I just find condescending remarks annoying and I...

Vendor UP Ascension-R Carbon Wide front fender

Which is exactly why I mentioned widening the front track width and not the rear would make the car unbalanced... I'm not talking about looks. I track my cars 15-20 times a year and adding carbon fenders to a 4000lb family sedan does not make it a "race car". Functional? Sure, but far from a...
  32. FlyNavy01

Vendor UP Ascension-R Carbon Wide front fender

Not bad. What's going on behind the wheel though? I hope the final product transitions smoother than that. And I assume they're doing the rear fenders as well? A front end wider than the rear would be pretty goofy and unbalanced.

Suspension question for folks who’ve had German cars

I haven't noticed any liftoff oversteer either. I also wouldn't run 25/75 because you're just removing usable power from the car and slowing it down in that scenario. I stick with 50/50 and it's very balanced. I also don't know where this story of Elon personally plugging a computer into a...

Vendor MPP Tips - 3 ways to improve your Tesla's efficiency!

I've also had lots of rear brake drag on my aftermarket pads due to the lack of spring clips holding them off the rotor. I ordered OEM "track package" pads from Tesla service about a week ago to hopefully have slightly better thermal properties vs. stock while still retaining those goofy spring...

Dual Purpose wh/mile with plus sized tires

Staggered is 19x8.5"+35 /19x9.5"+40 and square is 19x9.5"+35 for the track. It's the best of both worlds IMO. Square looks amazing, but big drag hit up front because they're yuuuge (see below) and block/disrupt the smooth airflow of the front "air curtains" in the bumper that direct air around...

    Papafox's Daily TSLA Trading Charts

It appears Tesla just announced 90,650 deliveries for the quarter. 90,650! During a pandemic and factory shutdowns. Wow. Congrats to Tesla, fellow investors, and thank you to @Papafox for the always helpful analysis.

I've Purchased 50+ Aftermarket Performance Products - Why MPP is Best

I had similar sentiments back in early 2018 when I saw MPP's initial thread on the forums introducing themselves. I remember thinking they're probably just another backyard aftermarket Tesla vendor trying to hop on the bandwagon to sell cheap cosmetic-only 'upgrades' and various other garbage...

Master Brake Cylinder Brace from Mountain Pass Performance MPP

Interestingly the master cylinder on my P3D only moves about 1/2 as much as yours at most. Maybe my firewall insulation has been compressed to have less play after multiple track days? My brace arrives Friday and I'm curious to feel the comparison as well.

    Track tire size, rims availability

Sounds like a decent flow-forged wheel would be a good option for you. Definitely stay with a square setup for the track. 9.5" width is the sweet spot with 265/35/19 RE-71R to keep the same diameter as stock. Low cost: Konig Dekagram/Hypergrams can be found for under $1000 for a set and weigh...

Model 3 Tearing it Up at the Track

Possibly my favorite thread on the forum. Also really interested in those 19mm wheel studs and ceramic bearings. Were those a one-off custom order for you or do you think they will be made available for sale? Either way, I've been enjoying following this on instagram as well as on here.

    Model 3 Performance 1-foot rollout

Yeah the 3.2 Tesla advertises is accurate. Not really "dishonest" at all anymore after the power boost updates. I get consistent 3.01-3.08 (w/ rollout) and 3.20-3.28 without it on my car. This is repeatable many times in a row.

Track Mode: Heating and cooling the battery

That's a good thing! I've found 65-75F (18-24C) to be ideal ambient temps for the car. And the original Track Mode blog post on Tesla's website talks about overclocking the AC compressor, as do numerous articles when V1 was first released. That's the noise you hear when you turn it on.
  44. FlyNavy01

Track Mode: Heating and cooling the battery

Compressor overclock was always there for track mode. They just added the ability to toggle it on/off for V2. I've also experienced power loss due to heat on the track recently. Most I've seen is 4-5 dots and it goes away 20-30 sec after entering a cool down lap. Only seen it in temps above 90F...

    Testing 0-60 time question

Dragy is 10Hz GPS and is plenty accurate for 99% of people. Typically within +/- .01 seconds of most drag strip laser timing systems as can be seen on a lot of youtube reviews. The method you describe above seems pretty convoluted and unnecessary.

    Expiring Free Supercharging Miles

Just checked mine and also lost around 3,200 free miles sometime in the last week. They weren't supposed to expire for another 2 months.

Dual Purpose wh/mile with plus sized tires

    Street: PS4S staggered 245/40/19 front, 275/35/19 rear, I average 278wh/mi Track: Trofeo R 265/35/19 square, I average 310wh/mi 19k miles in Florida, so it's flat and warm.

    18" BBK Options?

The wing is for the race track only. Function over form in this case. I'd also recommend upgrading from the stock 18" wheels before spending $3k+ on brakes, considering those won't improve anything on the street with the OEM tires other than maybe improved pedal feel.

BeastMode13's Dual Purpose P3D Build Journey

Any reason you didn't impact them on? That would be much faster and avoid the rotating hub issue. Quick video as an example starting at about 25 seconds in: Otherwise very informative thread. Might try swapping my studs eventually too. Bummer about the ARP ones though.
