    Beta windshield wipers???

My Tesla is now a little over 6 years old with all the hardware upgrades that are available including new cameras. Auto wipers didn't work 6 years ago, and I've never noticed any improvement with any OTA update since then. Improvements are a figment of Mr. Musk's vivid imagination. It's an...

Replacement FM tuner and HD radio

That clarifies it. Thanks very much! (There's a now-defunct 2020-21 thread on the replacement radios that shows that there was some confusion back then because of different upgraders getting different part numbers. I do hope that you're correct about the replacement tuner being the same tuner...

Replacement FM tuner and HD radio

Thanks, but are you talking about the "MCU 2 FM tuner" in cars that come with MCU2 or the replacement tuner for cars that have undergone an upgrade from MCU1 to MCU2?

Replacement FM tuner and HD radio

I've done without an FM tuner for a couple of years following my MCU2 upgrade that disabled access to my original tuner. I'll now throw for the replacement IF it has HD-radio capability, but I want to make sure it does before scheduling the service. If not, I'll continue to rely on Tune-In. I...

How do I tune to FM HD channels

I'm considering buying the replacement FM tuner because I lost access to the original tuner with the MCU2 upgrade. Can anyone tell me if the relacement tuner has HD capability and if it is having difficulty with the latest software version?

Repeatedly getting texts that Tesla has been offline

After receiving advice from TeslaFi not to allow reporting for offline status. I renewed the token and reinstituted TeslaFi monitoring. Teslafi now reports normal sleeping. TeslaFi support says that some cars report "offline" when the car is sleeping, hence the advice to stop reporting...

Repeatedly getting texts that Tesla has been offline

I didn't turn that off because the texts appeared to have been coming from Tesla, not from TeslaFi. I did a reverse lookup on the Chicago-area phone number, which is owned by "Tesla Cham," and it gave about 15 alternate numbers, all in the bay area. As I've received no more goofy texts since...

Repeatedly getting texts that Tesla has been offline

Thanks for the tips!! It's not obvious to me that Teslafi's monitoring could cause Tesla (actually, the phone number is "owned" by "Tesla Cham") to send me texts that the car's constantly "offline for the last 30 minutes," but I have my fingers crossed that disabling Teslafi will correct it. I...

Repeatedly getting texts that Tesla has been offline

For several weeks, I’ve been getting texts from the 312 area code, “Tesla has been offline for 30 minutes.” Sometimes they come about every 72 minutes, and at other times it’s about every 2 hours, 4 minutes. This happens when the car is in my garage and connected to WiFi at all times. I recently...

MASTER THREAD: Auto Wiper functionality, complaints, praise, etc.

There are times when I could explain the performance of my Model S auto wipers exactly as you did. Then the next time it rains, I'm throwing every curse I know at them. The auto functionality is frustratingly erratic in my experience.

    Flying Smart Summon!

I hope the camera calibration works. Meanwhile, here's what Summon is good for: You enter a parking space with those concrete "curbs" that can damage your front fascia if you drive over it. You stop a very safe distance from the concrete barrier, get out, walk to the front of the car, and use...

Tesla Extended Warranty within 180 Days

In simplest terms, this is the principle explaining ALL insurance of ALL kinds. It defines the concept of insurance, but it's little help in deciding whether to purchase insurance for any given purpose. Lifetime Energy Consumption for my Model S in Boston Area after 4 years

My lifetime average for my 2017 S is 247wh/mi, and my electricity costs literally half of what yours does. I'm in Ohio, by the way, not in the shadow of a huge hydroelectric dam. My fuel costs are thus 2.7¢/mile, so I DO recommend EVs as a huge energy and cost saver.

Why is the auto parking so bad? 8 Years later.

My 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid parked perfectly every time, too. It didn't require any camera calibration. It just worked first time, every time. Unlike Tesla, it identified every available parking place correctly. It always ended up a perfect 9" from the curb, centered between the fore and aft...

    100% charge or 90 or 95?

I hate to say it because I'm a Tesla fanboi if there ever was one, but I don't think you should have chosen an EV, at least not Performance model, for this commute. An ICE car or a hybrid would serve you much better unless she can be convinced to SLOW DOWN. I can sort of see how she'd want to...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I'd not worry too much. The upgrade kit is shipped to the SC marked with your VIN, and it cannot be used on anyone else's car, at least that's the way it's done at my SC in Ohio. I think that someone in CA punched in your VIN and the proper upgrade kit should have been matched to it. At this...

The IC screen in MCU1 cars was connected to the MCU by a data cable because it had its own GPU for driving the display. iPhone no longer connects automatically

Following the MCU2 upgrade, I was checking everything out in the garage with the driver's door open to keep cool. Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

The ability to stream those FM stations has been in Tesla cars for years. It's the little-used TuneIn app in Tesla's Music section. The easiest way to use it is to create an account on your computer, find all the local stations you'd ever listen to, and mark them as favorites. Then sign in to...

I think it's indistinguishable. On some of my local stations, the stream via TuneIn contains artist and song-title info that the radio broadcast doesn't have. MCU3 Release Date?

In addition, there's no reason to believe that Tesla would switch to the next Intel platform unless the current one is no longer manufactured. MCU3 Release Date?

They never offered an an MCU “upgrade” when they went from 3G to LTE. An owner could get the upgrade by bearing the cost of the LTE receiver and labor. If there’s a new MCU2.1, I’d guess that they would simply start inserting it in the upgrade kit as soon as they run out of MCU2 units, but...

    HomeLink question

Tesla's implementation of Home Link has always been faulty. It was bad in the early Model S cars, and they did nothing to correct it in Model 3. I've never been able to set my activation distance to more than 30 feet. If I try, the door activates, rises about 6 inches, and stops. This...

I'm sure that the Dodgers have a large radio network for broadcasting games. Just get a list of the stations in their network. 2020.12.5

But what would you replace it with? The digital tuner that Tesla uses in MCU2 cars will not fit the bracket the analog tuner is in, and there are reportedly incompatibilities in the wiring harness, too. It can be done. It has been done, but you cannot conclude that it’s a simple task just...

USB thumb drives no longer recognized

I'd certainly agree with that. It's most definitely a bug. The probable explanation is that in enabling TeslaCam playback from the USB thumb drive on MCU 2, they unintentionally broke USB thumb-drive recognition and music playback on MCU 1

Same here. My fears about MCU1 are the same as yours. I'm now sorry that the installation from the car was successful because 2020.12.5 has taken away the USB option from Music. It seems to be a widespread bug, at least with MCU1.

    Wiki FAQ: MCU2 Upgrades

I resent very little that Tesla does, but MCU1 matters are an exception. The inevitably failing eMMC part clearly demands an extended warranty on a part that was flagrantly under-engineered.
