200 kWh Roadster Pack: How is Tesla Pulling This Off?

Then I will clarify to mean that they may have better energy density batteries, but currently at a higher cost/kwh. That seems like a lot of 2170 cells to stuff into such a small frame. As always, I could be wrong.

200 kWh Roadster Pack: How is Tesla Pulling This Off?

I get the feeling that people are too fixated on current economical battery technology. Who's to say that Tesla doesn't already have a far better battery, just one that is cost prohibitive to use in mass market cars? I would not be surprised if they already have better technology, just that it...

No tax credit good for Tesla?

The more I think about this I feel like it might actually be a good thing. Tesla, which obviously makes FAR superior EV’s than the competition, has almost exhausted their eligibility for the tax credit. Thus, if the tax credit goes away now, the EV market would be on even ground. Tesla has...

No tax credit good for Tesla?

Correct me if I’m wrong somehow, but would the EV tax credit going away actually be good for Tesla? They are about to max out anyways, and if it stuck around, it would then be a HUGE selling point for competitors EV’s like GM, Nissan, etc. since they will not hit their 200,000th EV for years to...

    Tesla Replaces Half Dozen Parts

No problem except for cost. A lot cheaper to fix now on <200. Butvyes, regardless, small recall fixes happen all the time on lots of cars.

Blog Model 3: Is The Long Range Battery Worth It?

I agree and disagree with you here. Considering that the curve on the $/kWH graphs I have seen has basically leveled out, you may be right. However, 8 years in technology is not necessarily the “not too distant” future. Especially not when we are about to see MASSIVE competition between major...

    Giving Tesla Feedback

Really what I am getting at with the options 3 and 4 is: Have you seen something, as a reservation holder, that you didn't like on the Model 3 and provided feedback? I have emailed about the lack of a separate software purchase for just Advanced Cruise Control, or something like that, which...

    Giving Tesla Feedback

I have been pleasantly surprised over the years at the power of what a single email can do. We are seeing more details about the Model 3 coming out. I see a lot of people posting complaints about various things (like the wipers only having slow and fast...wtf Tesla?). However, how many of you...

Will we have to leave Bluetooth on all the time on our phones?

I think I follow the OP in wondering whether Bluetooth will need to be on in order to operate the car? If yes, yes you could turn it on/off all the time, but how annoying would that be? I don't like leaving mine on all the time either.

Filing Taxes Jointly & Tax Credit

Neither of us would hit $7500; but combined income, easily. The whole point is moot really because by the time I take delivery, it will like he at 50%, maybe even 25%.

Thank you. Are you a tax pro or you just happen to know this will work?

Filing Taxes Jointly & Tax Credit

Have you considered that some people's financial situation is a bit more complex than their tax liability would suggest? But thank you for your concern...

Filing Taxes Jointly & Tax Credit

Forgive me if I missed this info somewhere, but I read through A LOT of threads on the tax credit hoping to find some info on this, and I only saw it posed as a question, and never answered. Scenario: I myself have a reservation for the M3. Regardless of where the tax credit is in the phase-out...

Poll: 81% of Prospective Model 3 Owners Say They Won’t Pay Upfront For Full Self-Driving

Actually, by definition, that is EXACTLY a theory. Didn't you pay attention in science class? You've experimented, collected data, tried to falsify the EAP on backroads. You did exactly that. That my friend, is theory, not the misused, "Evolution is just a theory" BS.

Range on Highway for Model 3

I heart math. There should be a "buy the guy a beer" button here.

    Interior door handles

Yeah I figured that much, but I was under the impression that the Model 3 was going to avoid fancy stuff like that, in aiming for more affordability. It just seems silly, honestly. Maybe it is just on the Premium versions?

    Interior door handles

I still trying to wrap my head around the WHY of having an electronic opening alongside mechanical, especially if their goal was to save money/make it cheaper?

    Interior door handles

The author of this article makes it sound like in order to egress from the inside of the Model 3, there is an electronic button...true or false? The Tesla Model 3 reminds me of all the times the electronics failed in my first car | The Verge "...fixtures like the interior handles have been...

[Incorrect post] EV Tax credit mischaracterization

This is why I reported my own OP to get it deleted. Perhaps a super clear accurate post needs to be PINNED at the top f this forum? There IS a ton of misinformation out there. I feel like I know A LOT about EV's, and somehow this evaded me. I am not alone.

I'm a science teacher, of course I can change my mind when I am wrong :)

[Incorrect post] EV Tax credit mischaracterization

Yes yes yes, I have already reported my own OP to get this thread deleted. MAYBE, the correct information should be pinned at the top of this forum, since there IS so much misinformation out there???

[Incorrect post] EV Tax credit mischaracterization

So I feel like this thread should then be deleted, with a more accurate description written up somewhere. Either way, a lot of people are in for a rude awakening, thus it would be nice to get this info out there.

[Incorrect post] EV Tax credit mischaracterization

Ok, sweet, so the articles I read today that I thought were clarifying this were actually still not entirely clear. So what I need to do is increase my income, thus my tax liability, to realize more of this credit.

[Incorrect post] EV Tax credit mischaracterization

Ok, so my line 47 amount was $2450. Last April, I owed $600. So what you are saying is that my line 47 would go to zero, meaning that instead of owing $600, I would now receive a refund of $1850 ($2450-600)???

[Incorrect post] EV Tax credit mischaracterization

Lets get complex! I like details. So maybe I misunderstood it. Can you give me an example using some basic numbers?

[Incorrect post] EV Tax credit mischaracterization

Actually, I take that back, that thread mainly talks about the phase out of the tax credit, not how it works, at least not on the first page of replies. HOW IT WORKS on TAX DAY is what needs to be clarified. I get the feeling that most new EV buyers think it is a rebate. IT IS NOT.

[Incorrect post] EV Tax credit mischaracterization

Thanks Jeff. That article should be pinned. I searched the forum for "tax credit", and never saw that article.

Going to pass on AWD to get my Model 3 sooner, anyone else doing the same?

Point in case. Just curious, jpkreger, whether you understand that it is not a rebate? I just learned of this myself, today. See my post below yours, and do some googling on how the credit works.

Going to pass on AWD to get my Model 3 sooner, anyone else doing the same?

I wonder how many people here going for the RWD "to get it sooner" to get the full $7500 credit realize how the tax credit actually works? Unless your end of year liability (what you owe the Feds) is greater than the credit you are getting, you are SOL. Example: If you only owe the feds $1000...

[Incorrect post] EV Tax credit mischaracterization

mod edit: I have left this in place due to the fact that the follow up discussion has value, but have edited the title and added this blurb. The OP agrees this is incorrect after the discussion. I have been following EV's and Tesla for several years now. How this information evaded me until...
