Buying used Model 3, new model 3 or Kia EV6

I have a 2018 Model 3 with 25K miles on it now. It's been 100% trouble-free. Only service item was to have the rear trans axles re-torqued. Fit n finish is as good as current models (from what I see in the showrooms). I have an early VIN - 11XXX and from what I heard, extra care was given...

    Fit bike in trunk

Can't do. I always have to take the front wheel off (56cm frame as well). Back wheel in first is the easiest way I find to load/unload.

    3 or Y

About 10% difference - 310 vs 280 miles range for AWD versions. For some, that maybe significant.

    3 or Y

What's more important - range or interior space? Otherwise, basically the same EV's.

    Lifetime Wh/mi

    LR RWD. ~ 14,000 miles. SoCal. 237 Wh/mi. Most commutes (60 miles r/t), I average under 210 wh/mi.

    Rotating Tires question

No, just a socket style wrench/breaker bar to loosen and a torque wrench to install. They should not be so tight that you can hand loosen them.

    Rotating Tires question

My neighbor had the Tesla service tech come to the house to rotate the tires. I observed. Super easy to do yourself if you have a modest jack. Simply jack up at the jack point right in front of the rear tire. Jack up the car until both front and rear tires on that side are no longer...

Best Config for Overlanding - Dual or Tri-Motor?

Thanks. Good points. Definitely need the range and appears tri-motor would offer offroad benefits. We go out to Utah annually (Capital Reef/ Moad areas, exploring the moderate dirt/rocky roads) and would be cool if the Cybertruck could pull this off. Off-grid is usually under 200 miles, but...

Best Config for Overlanding - Dual or Tri-Motor?

What would be the best config for Overlanding and off-roading (not rock crawling, but decent class 3 stuff)? While I like the 500 mile range of the Tri-motor config for overlanding, I really don't need the performance. But if Tri-Motor is more suitable for off-roading, than I'd consider that...

This truck design had better be a joke....

Been looking at it for while now and really have no idea if I like it, hate it, or just don't know. No real reaction other than not knowing what to think. It is sooo different, it's hard to judge at this time. Specs are amazing. Gonna take a while to figure out what to actually think...

Do you ever worry about a blow out at 45psi?

Gonna have to try that. I've been running 42 cold which runs about 45psi hot.

Solid AP Improvements on v10 - Initial Impressions

One improvement I really appreciate is that it now recognizes a large truck or semi and moves off-center to the side away from the truck. My wife was always complaining about how close the Tesla would get to Semi's in AP mode. The new adjust is very nice and subtle. Overall, impressed with...

    Driving efficiency decrease with V10

Did my first commute on V10 - was getting around 212-218 w/mi pre-v10. Today, 201 w/mi. It's a little cooler out when I leave the office, so the AC may not have needed to work as hard. But the morning commute was definitely more efficient then prior commutes, driving the same route. RWD...

    V10 battery improvements?

I didn't notice any change. RWD - 90% gets me to 287. 100% - 319. But that last time I charged to 100%, about 6 weeks ago, I got 324 and actually achieved 325 miles range (260 to SC with 65 miles indicated range left). For this trip, I averaged about 211, cool morning, so minimal us of AC...

I remember when...my 3 would open without me having to open the app on my iPhone

Same happened to me. I ended up doing the "forget this device" thing in the phone app and in the Tesla section. Re-activated Bluetooth pairing and works fine again - in the background.

Model 3 LR range is now listed @ 325 miles

I noticed a bump and range actually increased over the past year. 90% charge ~ 288. About a month ago we drove from San Diego to Lompoc, CA. Over 275 miles. I arrived at the SC in Buellton with 260 miles driven and had 65 miles range left for 325 indicated total range. Drove the freeways...

18 months later - gaining range and achieved 325 range on a trip

When I first got the M3 back in March of '18, the max range at full charge I was able to get was 310 miles. The Spring SW update increased it to about 316 miles. Then this weekend, we embarked on a trip from San Diego to Lompoc, CA ~ 270 miles. Charged to full state and it went to 320...

Portland punk smashes windshield — of a Tesla, which caught him on video

Well, I hope that vandalizing Tesla's with Sentry Mode/DashCam thing doesn't become some sort trend to get attention/on the news. For this particular vid, there is no way to ID the punk, yet he made the evening news...which could be a perverse thrill for these losers.

Car still asks for key card even with key fob

Not sure what you are doing incorrectly. If I double click the FOB and the enter the car, all is good and it's ready to operate. They only time I need to re-click the FOB is if I leave it in the car, then I re-open the door exit, and return to the car. The open/closing the door for requires...

    Front dash scratches

I sourced some of the 303 protectant from Amazon. Applied it first to a micro-fiber cloth, then wiped the dash. Amazing - the scratches are undetectable now and it does not leave much a sheen - a little (very minor), but not like Amorall and I assume it will fade to mate finish in a day or...

    What extra range?

After the upgrade, a full charge gets to about 318 miles. 9,500 miles on the M3, bought it March of '18.

Zinc Oxide Sunscreen Stain on Leather

I've been finding that Simply Green sprayed on the seats (~ 30% concentration) easily removes sunscreen, lotions, and other white-cloudish stains on the seats and door panels. I wipe it off with microfiber cloths. Completely cleans the surfaces with mild rubbing.

Manual lane change process? Basic AP in autosteer

That's how I initiate a lane change with AP on. Tap the turn signal. Auto steer disengages. Turn into the desired lane. Double tap gear stalk and your back in AP mode...pretty straight forward and pretty stress free. During the free trial back in Sept of last year, it would turn into the...

What’s the one thing you like the least about your Model 3?

Yep, if you go to TuneIn => Browse => North America => Scroll till you find California => find San Francisco and then you'll find KGO 810. Hit the star icon to save it and now as soon as you open the music app, it will appear as a favorite.
  29. Hans L

What’s the one thing you like the least about your Model 3?

You should be able to find that station within "Tunein" and save it as a favorite. That's what I did with several select AM stations I listen to - and the sound quality is much better than standard AM radio...!
  30. Hans L

What’s the one thing you like the least about your Model 3?

19" Rims. While I like the style, they are way, way too easy to curb rash. Ideally, a little tire extends beyond the rim to reduce the risk of curb rash. I dread parking next to a curb as a result.

I need to know about your rattles....

9500 miles. No rattles at all during the entire time of ownership so far.

    Model 3 LR tire rotation?

Nope. This is exactly how the Tesla Ranger's do remote tire rotations. I was worried as well until I watched the ranger rotate my neighbor's M3. He jacked up at the rear jacking point in front of the rear tire. Jacked it up until both wheels came off the ground. The chassis is stiff enough...

How was your model 3 quality when you took delivery?

March '18 delivery went very smooth, efficient and pleasant. Car was spotless and clean, under bright lights. All looked great. Unfortunately, when I got home I noticed a small pimple in the rear passenger side quarter panel. Not a big deal. Tesla took care of it - paintless dent repair...

Captured a door dinger today on camera

Your premiums should not increase for a comprehensive, not-at-fault claim. The issue will be your deductible. For a door ding, the deductible probable exceeds the cost of the repair. If you are at fault in a collision, then your premiums may go up, if the claim damages exceed a threshold -...

M3 Not Unlocking with 2 Different iPhones

Was there any damage to the windshield prior to washing? Appears there is a little chip near the top in the crack. Is that were the crack perpetuated from?

    Wheel repair?

I've damaged mine twice - same wheel and same spot (after it was repaired the first time ugh). I used a local guy in San Diego. Did a phenomenal job - cannot tell at all. Ground it down, blended the damage, painted it - all in a parking lot at work. ~ $150/wheel each time. Learning to be...

Just finished using the Supercharger in Sorento Valley in San Diego after completing a 500 mile round trip to Santa Barbara and back and saw this - wow: Total cost for the 500 mile trip in my Model 3: $13 in SC charges. Had I driven my ICE powered SUV, easily would have cost me $120 in...

    System restart while driving

And it happened to me on Sunday, April 14th while on the 405. Just randomly the screen went black. Rebooted and the screen/system came back on in a matter of seconds. No impact at all on driving - even AP continued to work. On version 2019.8.5.

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

I'd be careful about the decision not to have heated seats. I live in San Diego and while much of the year is pleasant, during the colder winter months when the temps drop into the 40's, I find myself using the heated seats a lot. I probably used them 4-5 months this past year, starting in...

Opinion on getting graphics on tires?

Those are a little overdone, but I've always been a fan of White Lettering on Tires. Mostly just company logo/brand and tire size/details.
  48. Hans L

Why doesn't the charging port unlock?

Get a key fob. It instantly wakes-up the car. The blue-tooth phone thing is just not ready for prime time. I've been very satisfied with my key fob, despite not having passive entry. Upon leaving the house and out and about, the phone key works fine, just not around the house for whatever...

    LR3 is too efficient

I'm at 248 Wh/mi. 7,200 miles to date. I live on a hill requiring about a 600' elevation gain, 8% grade - really spikes the usage returning home!

Gearheads Can Still Enjoy the Tesla Model 3

Yep. Fully agree. And literally parked right next to my Model 3 is my '69 Camaro RS Z/28 with the original DZ 302 and M22 4 speed manual. Old meets New! Love both.
