PSA, big recall for Schneider Electric (includes Square D and QO load centers)

The HOM breakers are 1" thick while the QO breakers are 3/4" thick. But at least some HOM panel models also support plug-on neutral breakers. The panel Tesla installed for me does, for example.

Caution - Annual Service - Car power-down - GPS issue

If you read back through the pages of this thread, you'll see descriptions of the cable that I made for facilitating a firmware update in the Garmin GPS sensor on 2.x cars. I have loaned that cable to many owners. Now, however, due to failing health I won't be able to handle sending out the...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

Yes, bank account is the method required for Tesla's automated payment system. That did not work for my brokerage account, hence the CC. 3/10/22 - full payment 5/13/22 - interconnection request sent to PG&E 5/19/22 - PG&E approved PTO

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

Is your system operating in self-consumption mode? If so, has it been performing as expected? That was my understanding as well. I paid the whole about by credit card over the phone, but that may have been unwise because there was substantial additional delay requiring multiple phone calls...

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

My interconnect agreement for NEM2 does not include that checkbox, but the Application Summary document that PG&E emailed back upon receipt of the interconnect agreement includes for both Powerwalls the line "Charging mode: No Grid Charging".

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

We are in Sunnyvale, so near the south end of the bay but not near the coastal ocean. We may be more temperature tolerant than some, and we do have a whole house fan to help move the heat out of the house in the evening. Today outside is 91.4 and inside 71.2 without A/C. Inside will go higher...

Best charging practice/set up for a Roadster (1.5 in North America in specifically)

I have Roadster VIN 33 which came with the same original HPWC. I bought a 50A electric stove cord with a NEMA 14-50 plug at Home Depot and installed it in the HPWC. (For my location, I routed it out the top.) I had previously installed a 14-50 socket in my garage for another EVSE.

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

Followup to this post of mine on 4/24: I called on 4/29 and got confirmation that FinOps had completed the required action, so the CSR was going to contact the interconnection team regarding submission of the request. On 4/30 and 5/2 I received emails about new documents in my account to sign...

Caution - Annual Service - Car power-down - GPS issue

Nevermind that Tesla could have fixed the date problem with a simple change to the firmware in the VMS itself, which they should have applied without charge.

Caution - Annual Service - Car power-down - GPS issue

I don't think anyone at Tesla has a cable like the one I made and have loaned to many owners. The cable that some Tesla service centers might have is one that connects to the Molex connector where the GPS sensor hooks up to the wiring harness behind the left front wheel. Mine hooks up to one...

Increasing Home Insurance with system installation cost?

I have my home insurance with Wawanesa in California. They seem to have specific underwriting for the Tesla Solar Roof based on the percentage of the roof area that is active tiles. My premium did increase.

Should I add a 3rd Powerwall in California?

As others have mentioned, the reason for the inverter is to drive the compressor motor at a variable speed. As an example, the Tesla Roadster motor is a 3-phase, 4-pole AC induction motor -- a design invented by Nikola Tesla, hence the company name. The frequency of the AC waveform produced by...

    Heat generation from Powerwall+

Is there a microswitch that detects the cover being open, and if so, did that cause the fan to shut down? If so, leaving the cover open might not allow the unit to cool itself properly. (I'm just speculating here; I have not looked for myself.)

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

In N.Cal, we only need A/C 10-15 days each year. With the TOU rate, we run the A/C after midnight (off-peak) to pull the inside temperature down to 69° (good for sleeping) and then let the inside temperature rise during the day with the windows closed until the inside and outside temperatures...

Mid day point release update (22.9.2)

My system had a 10:45AM upgrade from 22.9.1 to 22.9.1.1 -- no idea how that is different from 22.9.2. Once again it caused my monitoring to stop, perhaps because reauthentication was needed.

    V2G support in Backup Gateway/Switch

I am one of those Roadster owners. The inverter in the 2008 Roadster was bidirectional because it was a digital reimplementation of the A/C Propulsion drive system. The A/C Propulsion drive system was inherently bidirectional and was, in fact, operational in some V2G experiments using several...

    V2G support in Backup Gateway/Switch

I agree. I was just making the point that a V2G implementation would at least need to guarantee that it would stop sending power to the grid if the grid goes down. To the extent that the system is serving as V2H as well, then indeed what you want is to continue operating in isolation from the...

I'm in the same boat, or a similar one. I paid in full by credit card[1] on the day payment was requested. The phrase used by the CSR in my case was "waiting for the billing department to send an invoice indicating paid in full" to the department that handles utility interconnection requests...

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

Need to be careful about the terminology. But the contactor (relay) and some sensing functions of the...

Can't authenticate for Tesla account [from older android device]

My Pixel 2 XL is running Android 11, which is stated as the last version available for this device. The phone has been running the Powerwall Monitor app just fine for several months until two days ago when the authentication problem arose, so I wonder what changed. Just now, as I was poking...

Max rebate from SCE at true-up?

You are a net producer only if you have sent more kWh to the grid than you pulled from the grid. Just having a negative year-to-date energy charge is not sufficient if you are on a TOU tariff such that the kWh you sent to the grid were priced higher than the kWh to pulled from the grid.

Can't authenticate for Tesla account [from older android device]

Good point, but I think the new version of the app was still happy with this phone because it does start up and go through the authentication steps. I think the recent posts here about older phones were regarding iOS devices.

I've seen a couple of posts about software to run on some computer to monitor the solar output and use the car API to adjust the charge current accordingly. charging model 3 in self powered mode without draining powerwalls?

This way the energy going into the car has gone into and back out of the Powerwalls which means 10% loss. It is best to use the excess solar directly into the car during the day if you are home and can manage the charge rate to consume most of the solar and just let a little bit go to the...

You're right. In both of the instances where I participated in causing a transformer to overheat and fail, PG&E came out promptly to replace the transformer. At the RV campground near Yosemite this required traveling some distance from the nearest service yard and working in the middle of the...
