    Supercharger - Destin, FL - US-98

Thank goodness. I have been waiting for this to open for years. Charging in Destin has been a disaster.

Ear-Splitting Rumbling Sound When My Model S is in Motion (except when window rolled down)

Same problem here, came and went and was so baffling to me. Took me months to realize it was the ARNC. Turned it off and noise is gone forever.

Sad about Plaid? Attention past or present Porsche 911 Owners!

Heck yeah. I won't clutter up the thread too much but can't resist. I am completely biased but, for me, it is heads and shoulders above everything else in its segment. With mods it matches my Plaid from a roll. And finally, it has been more reliable than my Plaid. That is probably more of a...

Sad about Plaid? Attention past or present Porsche 911 Owners!

Right on. Use the right tool for the job. Plaid is a great daily driver, fast in a straight line, comfortable, practical, etc but it isn't a sports car and at close to 5,000 lbs doesn't pretend to be. If budget/space allows, get discrete vehicles for their intended purposes. I cannot state...

Test drove 2016 Model S P100D; Surprised by sluggish acceleration and weak regenerative braking.

I haven't set up SMT on my Plaid yet but I can tell you that there is an option to blend in friction braking when regen is reduced and I have that option disabled as I don't want my car to friction brake unless I tell it to. Personal preference. So my comments are solely on the regen...

Test drove 2016 Model S P100D; Surprised by sluggish acceleration and weak regenerative braking.

I went from a 2016.5 P90D to a 2022 MSP. There are numerous improvements throughout and I made a thread about it when I made the switch. Pertinent to this thread, cold weather behavior and regen are vastly improved. In all situations my Plaid regens way harder than my old P90D did, which I...

The 2 Best Days In a Plaid Owner’s Life

I will say that I had trouble sleeping last night and began to think about following you down the path of pursuing a buyback on my car if service continues to fail in repairing some suspension issues that my car has.

The 2 Best Days In a Plaid Owner’s Life

True if the timeframe is extended far enough. The reason that so many Plaid owners are salty is that Tesla singlehandedly destroyed much of the resale value by slashing prices on new cars by around $50k in some cases. Traditional luxury marques like Porsche and others that give a crap about...

The 2 Best Days In a Plaid Owner’s Life

I drove an EQS and really liked it, not as much as the I7 but it was great. So much better than the Tesla in many ways and it definitely tempts me. Hyperscreen is amazing as is just having a well built car. However, due to the aforementioned horrendous depreciation, I am stuck riding this bad...

Sell or keep MS with 60k

Keep it, you are already low on the depreciation curve and the battery/drive units are the big ticket items and you still have warranty for those. I had a Y for a loaner recently. They are certainly nice but not in the same league as an S.

Carseats: Model S vs Model Y

I am on my second S. I bought my first one and sold many of my sports cars six years ago when we found out we were expecting. It is my kid hauler. The situation is not much better in the S from our experience but it will certainly depend on how tall you/your wife are and what your preferred...

2021 Refreshed Model S - steering wheel yolk material peeling off?

Mine took around 20k miles to start melting at the top of the left, and subsequently at the top of the right portion of the yoke. It started in the summer and you can tell the pleather covering the yoke is much softer in the summer. I believe it "melts" as others have said. Try it for...

MS Plaid vs Taycan vs EQS

Typical excellent Porsche build quality, drives like a much smaller and lighter car so handling is much better than the Plaid. The magazines got great skidpad numbers out of the Plaid similar to the Taycan but there is a world of difference between the cars. UI/tech is much better in the Plaid...

MS Plaid vs Taycan vs EQS

Inspired partially by this thread I test drove an I7 and an EQS yesterday. I previously drove a Taycan Turbo S. I have many complaints about my Plaid but I can honestly say it is difficult to replace with any one of those cars. They are all "nicer" and better built but I expected to be blown...

2021 Refreshed Model S - steering wheel yolk material peeling off?

100% agree with everything you said and why my Plaid will be my last Tesla purchase. The race to the bottom will be just fine with lots in the 3/Y crowd but luxury car buyers in the S/X market (that funded the first decade of Tesla's existence) tend to expect to be treated a little better than...

How is the co-registrant listed on the title on a new Tesla? Is it "AND" or is it "OR"

Check your local state laws. In mine, having it titled "and" with both owners being a married couple confers a level of asset protection to the vehicle that "or" does not.

    Yoke peeling

I had some concerns about the driver's display based upon what I had read but I can honestly say that the wheel blocks none of the display for me. I am 5'9'' so I am not sure if I am in the sweet spot to see it or what but I was able to adjust the new wheel perfectly to see everything. Hand...

    Yoke peeling

As an update, I am now the proud owner of a steering wheel replaced under warranty due to my yoke peeling. I cannot overstate how much better this makes the driving experience on anything but straight ahead interstate driving. I underestimated the impact it would have on driving the car as it...

    Yoke peeling

As @uscbucsfan says below you, that is exactly what happened to me yesterday. Closer service center said no replacement wheel under warranty for my peeling yoke. They said Tesla doesn't do this for anyone and anyone that says differently on owner's groups/the internet is lying. I make an appt...

    Yoke peeling

Can confirm this guy is incorrect. Made an appt at a difference service center 2 hours away and replacement wheel under warranty for my peeling yoke is no problem.

    Yoke peeling

Agreed on the charging infrastructure. That competitive moat will be drained when all of the other manufacturers start adopting NACS in the next 2 years. At that point, at least in the luxury segment, there will be so many more competitive options to the S except for on the metric of raw speed...

    Yoke peeling

Sadly I have been playing the Tesla game for a long time and know this/have experienced that previously. In the situation that I am describing, the service person came and got me in the waiting room of the service center and told me that they were about to replace the peeling yoke with a round...

    Yoke peeling

Same here. Also wouldn't replace with a wheel and tried to charge me $1,000 for the replacement even though they told me it would be a warrantied swap through their stupid service messaging system in the app. I am stuck waiting for the "updated" yoke.

Pirelli Pzero vs Michelin AS4 vs Conti Procontact

Not to pick too many nits BUT while both the Michelin and the Continental are all seasons, they are not both grand touring. The Continental is whereas the Michelin is an ultra high performance all season (at least according to Tire Rack). They are different classes of tire with the Michelin...

Pirelli Pzero vs Michelin AS4 vs Conti Procontact

Mine came with the 19 inch Pirellis. They lasted about 20k miles and then I replaced with Michelins. I have been very happy so far. It completely depends on what you want. The Michelins are a much higher performing tire than the Continentals, which are the only other all season option in...

    Yoke peeling

My service center in Memphis, TN scheduled me in to do this but then when I got there they said it was a "mistake" and that no one got a round wheel replacement for free, contrary to so many other accounts on this website. Tesla treats us plebeian owners with such contempt.

    Arbitration - Advice needed

Talk to a local attorney to at least get some guidance on the process and your options. You will get actual answers applicable specifically to you instead of strangers trying to guess at your situation on the internet. Just my 2 cents.

2021 Refreshed Model S - steering wheel yolk material peeling off?

Any tips on getting the round wheel option offered under warranty? I tried last month after making a warranty claim for my peeling yoke and my SC said that option was only for certain cars and my VIN didn't qualify for a round wheel replacement.

I saw that and was hoping for experience from others before jumping in. Seems like a no brainer if it is just a direct replacement.

I've had an MS for 5 years but have never thought to do this. Thank you.

    Bought a Plaid- Some questions

Congratulations. You will find that the Plaid, while comparatively boring, is consistently faster in a straight line than any Lamborghini (or McLaren in my case) or really any supercar/hypercar outside of a Rimac. It is the perfect daily driver and foil to an ICE supercar.

Plaid Radar Detector install with switched power

I have run an R7 for over a year with no problems on my Plaid. I believe that there haven't been reports of Unidens having the same problem.

Considering a Plaid...but do you think it's "worth it"?

I am mildly sore about my Plaid purchase because I bought brand new at close to peak pricing and didn't anticipate that Tesla would do everything in their power to tank values even more than they usually do. A purchase of a remotely new S/X has to accept that they may as well light their money...

    Changing tires DIY?

I have a 2 post Bendpak lift. Never used any sort of special Tesla adapter, just use the stock jacking puck adapters. Works for my Tesla as well as my other cars just fine. Put the car in high, activate jack mode, position the lift arms appropriately, and she is up.

    Plaid Front Motor Failure

When I had about 5k miles on my Plaid as I shifted it into reverse to back out of my garage to take my son to school one morning the whole car shook violently and a litany of errors popped up. I put it back in park and it shook again. We hopped into another car so he wouldn't be tardy and when...

    MS Plaid 19" Tire replacement

Only performance all season option in Plaid sizes for the 19s are Michelins although I have no idea if they will be sufficient in a Colorado winter. I would bet not.

BMS-029 - Tesla Must Do Better

You have already figured out that modern Tesla is not the same company that you bought into close to a decade ago. Tesla couldn't give two craps about their customers now for the most part and are almost solely focused on pleasing shareholders/wall st by building as many cars as they can as...

Multiple rear-facing car seats in back of Model S?

What Bardo said. Put the forward facing behind you, it frees up so much room.

Has anyone gone from a 911 to a Plaid?

Amen. I love my Plaid for hauling the kids around or getting groceries but it doesn't quicken my pulse like a "special occasion" car. I don't sit around and daydream about driving it. Judging from your profile picture, it seems a though we have similar taste.
  43. P

Has anyone gone from a 911 to a Plaid?

Good choice. Having a Plaid + a fun car is the best of both worlds.

New plaid rear brake caliper looks like it may be open pot with a cover.

Agreed, hence me saying that cost is the only reason that those types of single pot brakes would be used. It is yet another example in the long line of Tesla cost cutting. As to whether it would make a material difference in braking performance for a Plaid, I have no idea. I just know that on...
  45. P

New plaid rear brake caliper looks like it may be open pot with a cover.

I am with you on mainstream manufacturers but look at any performance manufacturer (McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, et al) and all of them use multipiston rear brakes. There is no debate about multipiston being superior to single piston brake setup in essentially every way except cost.
  46. P

New plaid rear brake caliper looks like it may be open pot with a cover.

FWIW Audi RS6/7 have roughly same weight and have a single piston sliding caliper on the rear with CCBs optional. I have never had any problem with the braking capacity on my RS7. With that said, it has several 100 less HP than the Plaid.
  47. P

Lucid Air Grand Touring vs Tesla Model S Plaid.

Agreed with others, lack of cargo capacity kills the Lucid for me. Not to mention that the cost to value ratio simply isn't there from a performance perspective.

Towing 2013 model S with UHaul

I towed a McLaren about 1,300 miles this summer with a Ford Ranger and a U Haul trailer. No problems whatsoever, just had to be careful loading and unloading and obviously careful driving. Model S would be a piece of cake.

I can no longer recommend Tesla. Their Service is the Worst

Unfortunately the entire company experience, as well as the overall Tesla community, changed when the M3 started hitting and not for the better.
