What do other EVs do in terms of consumption, range and charging speed compared to Tesla?

If I decide to get a Model 3 performance, I will get aftermarket 18” wheels that fit with the performance brakes. IIRC Martian makes them. Perhaps efficient aftermarket wheels and tires will provide what you are looking for in a Model Y Performance.

What do other EVs do in terms of consumption, range and charging speed compared to Tesla?

IMO Bjørn Nyland has good take on this. For ICE increasing engine power was expensive, but adding range was not. As a result high power cars had more status, and people rarely mentioned or thought about range. For EVs, increasing range is expensive, but adding power is not. As a result long...

What do other EVs do in terms of consumption, range and charging speed compared to Tesla?

IIRC, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume has stated that Mercedes EQXX shows the way for future EVs, with efficiency being very impactful to a positive customer experience. Quite a concession to a major competitor. Hopefully we will see greatly increased efficiency in future Porsche EVs. GSP

P85 (2013) floaty on high speeds

New P85/P90 dampers should do the job fine. I suggest checking out aftermarket ones as well. Some are adjustable, so you can set jounce and rebound damping to your taste. GSP

What do other EVs do in terms of consumption, range and charging speed compared to Tesla?

For EVs efficiency provides a lot more than just lower charging cost. Higher efficiency provides more range, shorter charging times, and/or lower battery mass and cost. Lower mass can provide many benefits, such as better handling and acceleration. Look at Mercedes EQXX concept car. It shows...

P85 (2013) floaty on high speeds

If the dampers (aka "shock absorbers") are 11 year old originals, they probably are worn out. The additional mass and worn dampers should both contribute to a floaty feel. I would try replacing with new dampers for a P100D, or aftermarket ones. Replacing the springs and giving all of the...

Long dryer extension cord 10-30 100' needed

I recommend sticking with 10-30 cable, vs. 14-50. Tesla’s 14-50 adapter will signal to the car that it is OK to use the max 32 Amps that the UMC can deliver (or 40 A for older UMC from 2012-2016 era). Sure you can turn the amps down on the touchscreen to the max safe 24 Amps or less, but...

Long dryer extension cord 10-30 100' needed

@CrimsonEclipse - 14-50 extension cords will be very heavy. 100' will be awkward to manage. The 14-50 also has an unused neutral wire, which adds to the weight and expense. If I were in your shoes, I would stick with a 10-30 extension cord. - The max current a 10-30 can support for a...

Long dryer extension cord 10-30 100' needed

Not sure, but I think they just do repairs now, speclizing on the 2nd Gen RAV4 EV, with Tesla drivetrain. I saw a recent video tour of their facility, maybe from “out of spec” not sure, and they said they no longer sell adapters. Best option may be to call them and ask if they would make it...

I am not believing the 20% yield number, but don’t forget that Panasonic had huge problems with yield for the new 2170 lines at Giga Nevada. It took years to get yield up to 80-90% range, which is a good number for a cell line, AFAIK. GSP

Long dryer extension cord 10-30 100' needed

@CrimsonEclipse - IMO the best extension cord solution is one that goes from the UMC to the car. That allows use of all Tesla’s UMC plug adapters, not just a 10-30. It also allows the temperature sensor in the UMC plug adapter to detect over temperature problems with your outlet. I bought...

    Wiring size and Wall Connector

@MYPWR - Unless you have only a short “super off peak” time window, consider lowering charging from 48 A to a lower value. Tesla’s PCS has three 16 A circuits and they all have to run at full capacity to get 48 A. The result in higher themperatures and bigger delta-T for temperature cycling...

    Goodyear ElectricDrive 2 Tires

@canbonbon - according to Goodyear's website, the Electricdrive 2 tires are not available in 255/45-19 size. Previous posters wanted to know what size Model Y owners that were running this tire were using, so they probably did not think suggesting a not available tire was useful.

Elon Musk once mocked China’s BYD. Now it’s running circles around Tesla

The BYD electric car that Elon "laughed at" was introduced about 12 years ago. It was hardly completion for the Nissan Leaf, much less the Model S. BYD brought a hybrid car with a cutaway powertrain to the Detroit Auto Show ("North American International Auto Show) back in that era. I was...

    Replacement HV Battery Warranty

@SweetJazz - If you purchase a HV battery out of warranty then it comes with the 4 year 50k mile replacement warranty. Buying a Model 3 prioritise age or mileage?

My take is: 1) Get the Ryzen processor if you can. To run the latest software 10 years from now, you will want as much computer hp as you can get. 2) EV powertrains can go lots of miles, >300k, but battery life can be limited by calendar age. I expect 10 year life, and hope for 15 years...

    EV Tires in Hokkaido, Japan

Welcome to TMC. The Michelin 18” OEM tires that came with my 2018 M3 LR are EV specific, with low rolling resistance and foam on the inside of the tread for noise reduction. I don’t think Michelin marketed them with an EV specific label though. These OEM tires have a bit less tread depth to...

IMO, the #1 reason Toyota (and Honda) created their first hybrid vehicles (Prius and Insight) was the US DOE’s PNGV (partnership for next generation vehicles) program. The goal was an 80 mpg family sized sedan. Toyota wanted to join, but the DOE would only allow the domestic GM, Ford, and...

How competitive the Semi will be depends largely on pricing. I haven't seen any pricing info since shortly after the 2017 reveal event, when Tesla execs hinted $180k for the 500-mile version. That is about what it takes to be competitive with diesel, in my estimation. However $180k / 900 kWh...

    Preparing home for Tesla vehicles

I also recommend installing one or two Tesla wall connectors. Also getting quotes from three electricians to install them. Ask them how much ampacity can be added to your panel. 60 Amps should be plenty, split between the two vehicles. That allows 48 A for EV charging (80% of 60 A). I have...

I expect that the Cybertruck will need to supply 12-14 V to its trailer connector, since this is used to charge trailer 12 V batteries. The X and Y have eliminated voltage supply to this pin when they switched to 15 V Li-ion batteries. However the larger trailers that the Cybertruck can haul...

IIRC the main differences between gen 1 and gen 2 4680 are in the design of the can. Mass has been removed by using thinner steel, and less”dead space” above the jelly roll.
