Windshield glass distortion - how much to rate replacement?

Shortly after my June '18 delivery I noticed my forward vision being distorted by imperfections in the windshield glass in the form of diagonal lines or ripples. I've tried living with it but find it more and more distracting to the point of contacting Tesla service to schedule an appointment...

    "Autopilot features unavailable" screen pop-up?

Your message wasn't displaying at delivery? It could be a different issue than mine but I think it will require service to repair. I doubt it is a software glitch. A tech should be able to diagnose it quickly. Keep in mind that you may not have features like emergency braking until the...

    "Autopilot features unavailable" screen pop-up?

That's the message I had from delivery. I can't say that it couldn't be caused by something else but I don't think its a software glitch or calibration problem that will fix itself...as I had hoped. It waited a month before I finally took it in. Forward radar was the culprit in my case...

    "Autopilot features unavailable" screen pop-up?

Tesla determined it to be a faulty forward sensor. They replaced that but the problem persisted so they replaced the replacement sensor. Finally they claimed the sensor mounting bracket was bent/damaged and replaced that as well. I'm still not certain if the bracket was the original problem...

    Software update v8.1 2018.32.2

True, EAP is "only" $5,000...but based on my limited trial experience it still doesn't seem worth it. Of course that is only for me and my driving situation.

    Software update v8.1 2018.32.2

The ONLY reason? I can think of one or two (or twenty) other reasons I bought mine...EAP wasn't one of them. I actually enjoy driving this car and don't have a commute to help justify the $9k expense. I do admit to having fun testing it out though. I feel like I'm in George Jetson's "car"...

    Software update v8.1 2018.32.2

Major bummer...900 mile Coast Hwy trip to Big Sur in three weeks. "Missed it by that much!" Too bad we can't delay the start of the trial period. It'll be a great drive regardless but would have been a real test for Autopilot. Can't justify paying the asking price so this will be our only...

    Only in the "OC"

On a recent trip to Arizona and New Mexico I think I saw 2 Teslas. My first Tesla road trip was to San Jose/Silicon Valley area in June and I was blown away by the high numbers of Model 3 already on the road. At a new trendy shopping/hotel development near Campbell there was a packed...

    Only in the "OC"

True...silver cars are less visible on the road. I'd rather get a ticket than get in an accident.
  10. S

    Only in the "OC"

I mostly agree. Like white, silver has been beat to death in recent years. Three of my last four vehicles have been a variant of silver or grey but not always by choice, more out of availability. That was the main reason I crossed it off my color list. Personally, I love silver on the Model...

    Only in the "OC"

Congrats! Welcome to the club/crowd. The more the merrier, I say. I've personalized mine enough (wheels, springs, tint) that it has a unique look so I won't have the "oops...wrong red Model 3" embarrassing moment. Yes...Rancho Santa Margarita is quite a mouthful.
  12. S

    Only in the "OC"

Living in Orange County, CA I've grown accustomed to seeing Teslas everywhere and now multiple M3s every day but yesterday was too funny not to report. Leaving the RSM Trader Joe's parking lot I pulled up to the red light next to another red M3. Okay...no big deal...but then a third red M3...

    Lowering the Model 3

A quick update on my Eibachs after a couple of weeks: No negatives to report at all. The drop remains the same so the springs haven't settled. No bottoming out, noises, or clearance issues so far. :D Planning a road trip up the CA coast through the recently opened Hwy 1 to Big Sur. That...

    Lowering the Model 3

I remember that fire well! It was '07...easy to date as I just had cancer surgery...and burned right down to our street forcing us to evacuate. The winds were really howling but the fire dept didn't lose one home.

    Lowering the Model 3

Close...but headed in the other direction. I could watch the flames from my backyard the first day. The smoke is a bitch today unfortunately.
  16. S

    Lowering the Model 3

I wouldn't say the ride is bumpier than stock but I do seem to feel more road imperfections. I have a hard time believing M3 owners who claim their car rides the same or better with any lowering spring. The exception might be those with low VIN cars equipped with stiffer original springs...
  17. S

    Lowering the Model 3

There seems to be a bit more road feel (both good and bad) than before but nothing unexpected or unacceptable. So far no clearance or bottoming issues to report at all. No obvious "squat" so I'm hoping tire wear won't be excessive.

    Lowering the Model 3

Cool...Alton used to be my regular route to work. My Model 3 was my early retirement present to myself...call me crazy...so no more daily commute! I doubt the subtle drop has improved the range but it's hard to tell as I no longer don't have a regular drive to compare.

    Pictures of production Model 3s

I thought I'd throw a pic of mine in now that I'm "done" with mods. Take by Eibach after they installed their Pro-Kit lowering springs last week. The look and handling are both just right now.

Can you walk into the Calif DMV to get the HOV decals?

In CA its hardly worth the trouble as I believe all HOV programs expire this year and stickers must be replaced with new ones. As for myself...I recently retired so I don't have a rush hour freeway commute anymore (Life is Good!). HOV stickers were fine on my prior 500e but would only detract...

    Lowering the Model 3

Howdy neighbor! You have quite a eye (and nice taste in cars). Top of the Alton loop, dead end of Calle Cabrillo. View from my front yard. Been here 26 years next month. Let me know if you want a test drive.

    Lowering the Model 3

Thanks. I went up a size to 245/40-19. About a third of an inch taller overall and of course 10mm wider. On Tire Rack the set of Conti Extreme Contact Sports was $80 cheaper than the much more popular 235/40-19 size. Go figure. Really liking them so far.
  23. S

    Do you wave?

Ditto that! I truly respect everyone who has gone electric, especially Tesla but I've had to scale back the wave/nod/thumbs-up for drivers of M3's that catch my eye with mods (wheels, springs, wrap, etc.) that show a little more pride of ownership. Of course I'll return any wave from another...

Disappointed in Tesla's pricing on paint

I second that! Sure am glad I picked up my MC red Model 3 "way" back in June. Now mine has gone up in value by $1K and there won't be quite as many red M3's flooding the streets here in So Cal.
  25. S

    Lowering the Model 3

The right springs would really complete the great look you already have. Just do it! You'll be glad you did. Made all the difference in the world to me.

    Lowering the Model 3

Not lowering related but the multicoat red over blue metallic was a close call but it has grown on me as well. Used to prefer the "candy apple" red Mazda offers over the Tesla MCR (both for a premium of course) but after a couple of months seeing ours in all lighting conditions I LOVE my red...

    Lowering the Model 3

Thanks, I'm liking the "meaty" tire choice. They look less stretched out on the 8.5" rim and provide more protection from impact and curbs without a noticeable "impact" on range and ride. Not everyone's taste though... That is Whiting Ranch wilderness park in the background. Were in OC are...

    Lowering the Model 3

Sweet combination! Your 20" TSportlines were definitely worth the wait. I was very tempted to go 20's over 19's but had too many bad experiences (both monetarily and ride related) with my H&R lowered Jetta SportWagen over 135k miles. The wife was satisfied with the 18's minus Aero caps and...

    Lowering the Model 3

Thanks...Eibach's pictures are certainly better than my phone pics! I wonder about the drop discrepancy as well. I guess we'll know soon enough as more Eibach equipped M3s get measured. Maybe my springs aren't settled completely yet even though Eibach claims to do an thorough road test with...

  32. S

    Lowering the Model 3

Yes, measured from the top of the wheel well to the ground. Gap is two fingers up front vs one and a half in back but I suspect it may settle a bit more. I wasn't going for the obviously lowered look...just a tighter fit for my 19's with minimal compromising of the ride and clearances. Looks...

    Lowering the Model 3

Update: Sorry, no pics to share but the drop after my Eibach springs install is surprisingly less than I expected at 1.1" in front and 1.0" in the rear. Measured after only 40 miles of driving so I expect those numbers might increase a bit. I think it looks great...1.5" of gap in the front...
  34. S

    Lowering the Model 3

I agree on the great look...and congrats on doing it yourself and saving some cash! I have to say I'm a bit surprised with the measured drop closer to the UP springs 1.5". I'm scheduled for noon today at Eibach's HQ in Corona so I might be the first "factory" install to report in. They told...
  35. S

    Lowering the Model 3

Very bold finish choice...I'm a bit jealous! Avant Garde offers an insane number of custom finishes...for a price, of course. Did you go with the TSportline springs instead of UP? If so, have you measured the real world drop vs the claimed 1.0"? Curious if yours is closer to the 1.25"...
  36. S

    Lowering the Model 3

I guess I'm the guinea pig for Eibach production springs but I'm (mostly) confident they'll look and perform as well as the TSportline and UP mild (moderate is a bit too low for me). Note: The 19" Avant Garde rim's slightly more aggressive offset than the factory 19's combined with the 245/40...

    Stock vs after market wheels

Thanks...mine should look even more like this after I get the Eibach Pro-Kit springs installed in a couple of days. This is the actual pic that convinced me to go with the Avant Garde M621 rim. Elegant yet sporty, with minimal bling. The low 23 pound weight was the capper. The car is the...

    Lowering the Model 3

Thanks to JohnC. I just called Eibach to take advantage of the expiring $269 pricing of their Pro-Kit springs and got a noon Monday install time. Labor is $400 with alignment (new "state of the art" alignment machine) and recommended bump-stop trimming. They said they had over 50 sets now in...

    Lowering the Model 3

Their website shows the price at $291.60. Has it gone up already?
  40. S

    Lowering the Model 3

Very nice look! Not obviously lowered. I'm starting to feel like Goldilocks...this one is too low, this one is not low enough, which one is just right? Still, it comes down to ride quality and road feel so I'm holding off to hear some feedback on the Eibachs. I have experience with them and...

    Stock vs after market wheels

I should clarify that the double tinted upper portion of the back window is darker than the roof panel from the inside but seems the same from the outside. The lower portion (not factory tinted) appears lighter from the inside but again from the outside the entire roof/back window shade looks...

    Lowering the Model 3

I'm going to contact (maybe visit) Eibach today for more details. Corona is only 30 minutes away and their pricing is fair. Their car looks a bit lower than the cars with TSportline springs. I favor the TSportline drop which I think looks like the stock setup should have from the start yet...

Red pill or Blue pill? Help!

I narrowed my choice to the same red or blue. The blue looks great in the light but is too close to black out of the sunlight. The red changes as well but looks great both in light or dark...kind of like getting two versions of red for the price of one. Went for the red and NO regrets! Of...

    Stock vs after market wheels

The tint installer is located only a couple of miles from one of the busiest Tesla delivery centers (Costa Mesa, SoCal). They claim to do several Model 3s per day on average. The back tint is a bit lighter than the roof panel even at 15%. Looks great from behind the car and doesn't look too...
  45. S

    Stock vs after market wheels

Thanks, I'm very happy with the final result. Llumar CTX ceramic 30% sides, back is 15%. They actually ordered the back window glass from Tesla to cut the tint pattern on rather than on the car.

    Stock vs after market wheels

I swapped out my stock 18's for Avante Guard M621 "spin forged" alloys in 19"x8.5 with a 35mm offset. I saw them weighed at 23 pounds...roughly the same as the stock 18" with aero caps. I upsized the tires to 245/40-19" Conti ExtremeContact Sports for the improved grip, sidewall protection and...

She-Ra the Princess of Power updates

Nice rims! I went with the Avant Garde M621 in 19"x8.5", 35mm offset. The lower weight and elegant style won me over. They'll look even better when lowering springs are added.

    Lowering the Model 3

So maybe decision time is delayed to August. I'm itching to lessen my 3's wheel well "gap". I've already upgraded to Avant Garde 19" wheels and 245/40 Conti's (bumped up a size for a little extra sidewall) but the excessive gap remains. I'm a bit concerned about the PU moderate springs. The...

    Lowering the Model 3

Thanks...mid July works for me. Did they mention if mild springs were coming then as well? I'm still wavering between the two.
