Update from the SC yesterday.
They're replacing the front drive unit and associated gubbins, including shafts, Clevis thingummies etc.
Some parts already in, others on order.
Is this unusual on a Model S with just over 30,000 miles?
Hi all,
Pulling away from lights on a roundabout earlier this week in my 100D (31k miles).
Seconds later, about at about 25mph, there's a double popping/soft banging sound, followed by a grinding noise. Front end of the car pulls to the left, almost like it's hit some ice. Very...
Hi all
Planning a two or three week holiday in France later this year. We'll be pretty rural, so not necessarily conveniently close to the nearest Supercharger.
Is there a decent equivalent to Zapmap for France and Europe, that shows the vast majority of third party charging facilities?
Thanks
Late to this thread, so apologies if it's already been stated, but, as far as I'm aware, the Tesla charger isn't "Smart", and therefore has a critical disadvantage when it comes to smart home charging. I may be misguided, in which case guide me...
Hi there,
6 weeks after picking up our MS 100d, we went down to Cornwall for Christmas...our first long road trip. This is how we did it...
Left Leicestershire Thursday mid morning with around 50%.
Lunch at Hopwood Park M42 while supercharging.
Left Hopwood with 98%.
Overnighted at Clevedon...
Hi Epico,
We're shortlisting home chargers for an October install, and Zappi is on the list. Does your £500 after the OLEV grant include installation, or is that extra?
Cheers,
D
Just checked the penalty notice.
It states that the duration of my stay exceeded the parking period, and payment for parking in excess of the free period was not received. Apparently, you can pay in the services, by phone or online.
So, it does seem as if the charge applies to parking...
I was in the car and in the charging bay (but unplugged) for about an hour.
I'm not sure that I was fined for spending too long in a charging bay...I think the 2 hour limit might apply generally to all parking at these services, as I was clocked by ANPR cameras.
That's why I'm curious as to...
Morning all.
I've been issued with a parking fine for overstaying at Grantham. The Grantham Supercharger, not Grantham the town...why would you want to overstay at Grantham?
I was Supercharging for the first hour or so, I then unplugged but stayed in the charging bay to continue with...
Hi all,
I have a bundle of Xavalec compact charging cable extension leads, adaptors and connectors for sale. Items are a mix of new and barely used. They're listed on eBay..thought I'd mention them here as well.
PM me if you're interested.
Cheers,
Dan
My 2018 100D developed the rattle from around 3,000 miles. Now on 10,800 miles. Booked in at the SC in a few weeks for the strut replacement. The ride has definitely deteriorated over these miles, to the extent that a) if I didn't already know, I'd be amazed if somebody told me the car was...
Interesting about no noise if suspension set in low...I need to try that.
I have this noise issue, and I've noticed it usually doesn't present when the car is "warm"' i.e when I've been driving for some time. Also, it rarely presents if I intensely but progressively apply the throttle. If I...
You guys and your clanking and milling on hard acceleration.
The one common denominator I've noticed with all these drivetrain issues is owner abuse. Punching it, driving it hard. I take care of my expensive car.
--------------------------------
Interesting.
So, what you're saying is that...
I imagine that if your average Tesla driver doesn't use the Supercharger network all the time; in other words that they can also charge at home on a sensible tariff, and maybe also charge at work sometimes, then paying to "propel" your electric steed (can't refer to it as "fueling", as the...
My S is booked in with my local SC end Dec for assessment of suspension rattle (been an issue from around 800 miles from new).
In the meantime, and in the last three hundred or so miles, I've three or four times experienced vibration under hard acceleration... it's like the drive shafts are...
Thanks.
I don't really want to be without my MS for any length of time, as, if nothing else, I pay for it monthly.
So, unless Tesla say they need to take my car from me for safety reasons, then I think I'll hang onto it until the parts are literally in their hands and they're ready to fit...
Update from earlier...
Visited SC today. Had a brief unscheduled drive with technician, who said he thought it was the issue I suspected. He confirmed there is a "fix".
SC will conduct fuller test drive in a couple of weeks to confirm. If confirmed, they will carry out the work.

Thanks for the link, useful.
Issue is simple for me in terms of Tesla's responsibility and duty of care:
Safety related? Take the car off me, give me a loaner and fix the problem ASAP.
Not safety related? Take the car of me, give me a loaner and fix the problem ASAP anyway, as I wasn't made...
Hi - what was the outcome of your fix? My 2018 100D has this issue (see my post on UK forum yesterday) and am dropping into an SC today (Birmingham UK)
Did you have any problems getting the SC to accept that there was a problem?
I gather from most people the replacement part is...
2,500 miles in from new: love the car. Cannot imagine going back to an ICEmobile. Not ever.
But...slight rattling sound from driver's side front suspension from 1,000-ish miles from new. Getting gradually worse...can hear it up to about 40mph, after which point wind and road noise drown it...
I already have the holder which is screwed on so stickon is too late :(
--------------------
Don't imagine that'd be a problem, as the holes should be inside the intended outline of the new plate. You could probably put the stick pads over the holes anyway and then attach the plate.
Does anybody know the purpose of the transparent plastic film that covers the plates? (Like clingfilm, only thicker). On my front plate it's already started to bubble. Not sure if this film is meant to stay on the plate, or whether it's supposed to be removed.
Thanks to all for your replies, very helpful.
From reading your comments, I think the issue was most likely a cold battery, as I had only been driving for 20 minutes before plugging in. Battery at point of plugging in was around 40% charge, and there were no other cars plugged in when we...
Hi all,
Apologies, I'm sure this is a common query, and that the answers are all over this forum....however.
First ever Supercharger stop today was at Grantham. Speed of charge was averaging about 42 kW.
Stopped later at Tankersley (Barnsley), where we averaged around 98kW, and then...
Cheers EV Guy.
Let me know when you get your 3...I'd be very interested in taking a look.
My MS is in the recently discontinued Metallic Silver, with stock 19" wheels.
Which part of Leicestershire are you trundling around in?
Collected my MS 100D today. Very informative handover at Birmingham SC. Plenty of time given by Josh, with no sense of being rushed. Enjoyable too...the moment when the sheet was whipped off was a highlight. Just adds to the drama and sense of fun.
The journey begins...
Interesting on your handover experience...where was it? What kind of marks were on your car? I'm collecting from Birmingham tomorrow...hoping all goes well!
Hi,
Like MagicMagicD, I've no experience of used...I'm picking up my new MS tomorrow.
However, there are alternatives to buying used directly from Tesla...one I'm aware of is here: R Symons Ltd
I've no connection with Symons, I simply came across them whilst researching the MS.
Interested where in your MS you store your UMC, Type 2 and various extension leads and adaptors. Does it tend to be in the frunk, or the boot (trunk). And, if in the boot (trunk), in the main storage area, or the underfloor cubby?
Thanks for the thoughts.
I've considered a CHADeMO adaptor, but think I'll see how I get on without one for a bit...they're quite pricey. I'm quite fortunate in that I can charge at work and I have Superchargers on the majority of my regular routes.
Going to buy some additional cables and...
Hi all,
Delivery date for the new car is looming, so I'm researching and purchasing these last-minute must-have accessories.
Rubber floor mats are a must for me due to work (50/50 split between office and site...site often being a wet and muddy field).
Does anybody else use rubber floor...
Thanks.
Decided on the Gokuk cameras, so am going with David at Shield.
Only decision is whether to go for front and rear only, or for an additional two cameras...one on each side.
Hi all,
As i understand it from the Model S page, EAP can be specified after delivery (albeit at a higher cost than if it were specified at point of order). Is this correct? If so, I'm guessing all the necessary hardware is installed in every MS at build, and it's simply a case of buying...
